Rachel walked to the bottom of the statue and quietly read the runes on the stone tablet.
Souls are born here, and perish here; all beings submit to the Lord of Will.
Todd frowned, walked around the statue, and after finding nothing, finally gave up the idea of investigating.
Walking into the passage behind the statue, you'll find a row of neat stone chambers, carved out of the mountainside and built together.
Stepping into the stone chamber, the interior furnishings are extremely simple: a stone bed, a stone platform, and a stone stool—that's all.
Todd looked around the room and gasped. The scene before him reminded him of his life in the monastery.
In contrast to Todd's nostalgic thoughts, the meticulous Rachel went to the wall of the room, ran her fingers over the marks on the stone, and said in a low voice, "There are words on this wall. The writing is badly damaged, but it can still be barely recognized by touch. This line is runic, this one is ancient Taro script, this one is Ansassin script, and these and these, I don't recognize."
Todd asked curiously, "What does it say?"
After trying to decipher it for a long time, Rachel finally sighed and said, "I can only recognize the type of writing. The content is completely unrecognizable. I can barely make out the words 'Shadow,' 'Sacrifice,' and 'Gate of Darkness.'"
The two searched the room for a while longer, but hunger and thirst forced them to abandon their search and begin looking for food and water.
"There's a spring here!"
Hearing Rachel's shout, Todd looked toward the far end of the temple corridor, where a spring formed by an underground well was gushing out clear, sweet fresh water into a reservoir within a pool surrounded by stalactites.
Having gone a day and a night without a drop of water, Rachel's throat was parched. She scooped up a handful of water, about to put it in her mouth.
A cool, clear female voice rang out at the entrance of the corridor.
"If I were you, I would never touch that poisonous water..."
