After finishing his morning training, Todd, covered in blood, returned to the stone chamber of the temple.
Rachel had just woken up, and perhaps due to excessive worry and lack of sleep, she didn't look well.
Todd glanced at the amount of food and water on the stone platform, which was almost the same as when he left. Suspicious, he asked, "What's wrong? Have you not recovered from your fever yet?"
Rachel leaned against the wall next to the stone bed, rubbing her temples, and said weakly, "I don't know, I just feel weak all over. Maybe it's because too many things have happened these past two days."
Todd took off his shirt, revealing bloodstains on his lapel, which drew a gasp from Rachel.
"Some superficial wounds, they've mostly healed," Todd said, waving his arm dismissively.
After carefully examining the other person and confirming that they were unharmed, Rachel let out a long sigh of relief, stared blankly at the stone window, and whispered, "When can we leave here?"
After changing into clean clothes, Todd looked out at the sky through the light: "First, we must find a way to leave the Shadow Kingdom. Fog, reefs, poisonous water, and ferocious beasts are all obstacles to our departure."
"The real trouble starts after we leave here. We must find a suitable ship and sail safely to the Kingdom of Muxi." Todd shuddered at the thought of the monster in the sea that was as big as a city.
There was something on his mind that he didn't mention to Rachel.
His academic career in his previous life, on the one hand, made Todd cautious and skeptical of such supernatural phenomena involving the Holy Spirit and curses, especially since he had met Crystal twice; on the other hand, faced with the hidden true face of the 'Tyrant' and the truth behind the various strange phenomena in the Shadow Kingdom, his curiosity began to stir again.
“If only the ‘Black Pearl’ were still here.” Rachel leaned against the wall and sighed.
Todd crouched down and touched Rachel's forehead with the back of his hand.
No fever.
But strangely, Rachel's current mental state is the worst he's ever seen her in.
Just as Todd was about to ask further questions, Meredith's voice came from the other end of the corridor.
"Are you there? I've brought you something."
Stepping out of the stone chamber, Todd was surprised to see Meredith carrying large and small bags in the main hall of the temple.
“This is a sleeping bag, this is clothes, this is a pot and pan…” Meredith placed the packages on the ground and opened them one by one, soon covering the ground.
Todd looked at the mess on the ground and nodded gratefully to the other person.
His body had been modified, so his basic needs were relatively simple. However, Rachel was still an ordinary person at heart, and without these necessities, it would be very difficult for him to survive in this place.
Speaking of Ritchie...
Todd glanced behind him and asked Meredith, "During my 'Destiny' Trial, did anything happen to my companions?"
Meredith looked somewhat surprised, and after thinking carefully, said, "I don't think so. She carried you through the Path of Trials and into the Sacrifice Hall. After you jumped into the 'Gate of Darkness,' she waited for you there for a whole day and night..."
Todd touched the bridge of his nose, pondered for a moment, and suddenly said, "I want to go and see the sanctuary."
Meredith winked at him: "No problem. Demigods who join the 'Shadow Kingdom' have the right to go to any corner of this place, except..."
Seeing Todd rushing towards the temple gate, Meredith called out from behind, annoyed, "I haven't finished speaking yet!"
Todd disappeared through the doorway, calling out before leaving, "Please take good care of my companions while I'm gone!"
Following the ridge to the foot of the mountain, Todd weaved through the rubble and bushes, stepping onto the dilapidated steps to enter the temple. Behind the broken statue of the goddess, he found the entrance to the underground.
Todd hurried down the spiral staircase below, looking down into the dark cave. Even with his night vision ability, he couldn't see the end of the cave.
As he continued to move forward, he gradually realized that only by personally experiencing the stone steps and going deeper could he truly appreciate the terrifying depth of this cave.
After descending over ten minutes and thousands of steps, Todd finally stood on the platform at the bottom of the cave.
Looking at the runes on the door at the end of the platform, Todd pushed the door open without hesitation and entered an underground passage built of fossilized bones.
As Todd looked at the fossils on the wall, some images flashed through his mind.
The same strange fossils, the same underground relics.
The scene in the ruins of the gods of the North Island gradually overlapped with the scene before my eyes.
A terrible truth was vaguely emerging in the depths of his mind, yet he couldn't quite see it as real.
As they walked a little further, Todd saw something strange among the fossils. It was this thing that completely awakened his fear and panic.
It was a green crystal about the size of a thumbnail, with clusters of crystals gathered together, like petals on a rose. In the dark underground tunnel, it emitted a faint green glow, dazzling and beautiful.
Todd's body was trembling, cold sweat poured down his forehead, and it felt as if a wad of cotton was stuffed in his throat, only able to make hissing sounds but unable to utter a single word.
Looking toward the end of the passageway, Todd, like a possessed madman, ran desperately toward the sacrificial hall.
He forcefully slammed open the door at the end of the fossil corridor. The sight of the sacrificial hall made his knees buckle, and he knelt on the ground. He clenched his right fist and pounded his cheeks while letting out cries of pain and regret.
