Chapter 294 Before Departure

Seeing Todd's unpredictable expression, Rachel softened her tone: "If you weren't going to help her, why did you even bother saving her in the first place? Deirdre, who had no one to rely on, would have been better off dead."

Todd gritted his teeth and said angrily, "Ratchet, what exactly do you want?!"

"you guess."

After saying that, the woman stood up, dusted herself off, and walked away with a smile.

After a struggle with his thoughts, Todd slowly made his way to Deirdre.

Looking at that handsome and refined face, Todd opened his mouth but couldn't say anything; only one thought kept echoing in his mind.

She is Boyle's fiancée...

“You’ve changed so much, you’re like a stranger…” Deirdre sat on the ground, hugging her knees, and glanced at Todd, saying quietly.

Todd sat down next to her, looked up at the sky, and sighed deeply.

"Do you think I'm a burden?" Deirdre buried her head in her arms, trying her best to suppress her emotions. "If that's the case, I can leave, and disappear from your sight completely..."

Upon hearing this, Todd had a fleeting illusion that he was thinking of his girlfriend from a past life.

The latter's opening line in arguing with him was remarkably similar to this passage.

With utmost care, Todd gently comforted her, saying, "Deirdre, I have never considered you a burden. On the contrary, you are actually a hero to us all! Think about it, if you hadn't used your death to deny the king's false accusations, we would all be living in the injustice of being accused of treason for eternity."

"In a sense, you proved our innocence with your life."

Deirdre gently raised her head, her expression no longer showing sorrow or grief, but rather disbelief: "What you said... is true?"

Todd raised an eyebrow and said, "Absolutely true."

Deirdre smiled and opened her arms to hug Todd.

The latter froze on the spot, stretched out her arms, and gently pushed away the puzzled Deirdre.

Todd stood up, took the short sword from his waist and the shield from his back: "Soon, I will be setting off for a distant land. Until then, I entrust my weapons to you temporarily. Take good care of them until I return."

"Far away?! Where to go? When will you return?"

Todd did not answer Deirdre's question, but solemnly handed the sword and shield to Deirdre.

Under everyone's gaze, Todd walked to the center of the camp and said loudly, "My brothers and sisters, please hear me out!"

"Just a few days ago, we were nothing more than a group of slaves with no future, prisoners waiting to die in jail. But today, we possess the two most precious things in life. One is freedom, and the other is—security!"

"Some might question how a safe haven can be found here, with no city walls or towers! Perhaps some are even plotting to leave and find a deserted corner to live out their days like rats in a sewer!"

"But I want to tell you here that the land beneath your feet will be a peaceful and prosperous home! It will be the starting point of an immortal empire! If you don't believe me, look at this mighty army beside me. They are my allies, and these men will stay here and defend this land to the death!"

At this point, Todd put his right thumb and forefinger into his mouth and whistled towards the sky.

A few seconds later, a clear cry came from the horizon, and a strong and fierce giant griffin broke through the clouds and swooped straight towards the camp.

As everyone screamed in panic, the griffin landed beside Todd, and to everyone's surprise, the large bird affectionately nuzzled his cheek with its head.

With a swift leap, Todd mounted his griffin and proclaimed to the others, "Not just this army, but I will journey south to find more allies to jointly protect our freedom and peace! If you trust me, please stay and help build our homeland!"

Amidst everyone's gasps of amazement, the griffin flapped its wings vigorously, and the man and the bird slowly rose into the air, gradually disappearing into the horizon.
