Chapter 310 The King's Leisurely Day (Part 2)

Todd voiced his doubts, but Wayne was completely absorbed in the experiment and paid no heed to any outside interference.

Master Terence stepped forward at this moment: "Your Majesty, let me explain."

"The old man you see behind the glass who is about to die is the subject of this experiment, and the people waiting outside are his family members."

"The general principle of Wayne's experiment is as follows: First, create a room that is isolated from the outside world and remove as many interfering elements in the room as possible, such as air, humidity, temperature and noise; then create a set of sophisticated instruments that can detect changes in the room."

At this point, Terence pointed to the metal bed behind the glass and said to Todd, "There's a watertight device underneath that bed that can measure changes in the weight of the test subjects, accurate to the gram; the long, vertical glass column in the room is a pressure gauge, used to detect changes in room pressure. Besides that, there's a magnetic compass, a mercury thermometer, a light intensity topologist, and so on..."

Looking at the dying old man on the bed, trembling all over and making guttural sounds, Todd asked Terence, "So what exactly is the purpose of this experiment?"

“Just as Wayne just said, this is an experiment about life and the soul.” Terence glanced at Wayne Dunlop, who was engrossed in academic fervor, and shook his head. “He brought in some people who were about to die from the immigrant area and had them enter this room to spend the last moments of their lives. He was responsible for recording all the changes in data in the room at the moment of death of the test subjects. And in order to confirm whether the soul would leave the body after death.”

“This is simply… this is simply…” Todd shook his head, trying to find a suitable adjective to describe this absurd experiment, but finally, he took a deep breath and asked, “These test subjects, they willingly cooperated with Wayne’s experiments?”

Terence knew what the king wanted to ask and explained in a low voice, "These dying men all come from impoverished families in the immigrant area. Wayne promised them a hefty reward, on the condition that they die in this laboratory."

“Something’s not right about this approach…” Todd rubbed his temples with his fingers.

Huggins stood beside Todd, looking at everything behind the glass, and said softly, "This desecrates life and vilifies death."

As they spoke, the old man on the metal bed breathed heavily, like a broken bellows, his hands flailing wildly at his sides, trying to say something but uttering nothing.

Then, Lao Rao's movements gradually slowed down, his pupils dilated, and his chest stopped rising and falling.

Todd had seen soldiers die on the battlefield and his fellow human beings struggle in the flames, but the process of turning from survival to death before his eyes was so calm that it was almost cruel, making his thoughts tremble as if cut by a knife.

The accompanying scholars went from initial shock to later anger.

Someone rushed up to Wayne, who was recording numbers, grabbed him by the collar, punched him in the face, and shouted, "You bastard! Using truth as a pretext, you've tarnished the last shred of human dignity!"

Looking at Wayne lying on the ground, Master Terence's face was filled with sorrow and worry: "Mr. Dunlop, heed my advice and stop your experiment immediately!"

Wayne used his body to protect his precious experimental data, enduring his punches and kicks, and shouted: "You keep saying you worship the truth and stay away from God, but your heads are still full of outdated ideas!"

Terence stopped the violence, helped Wayne up with his body, and said to him, "Young man, this has nothing to do with truth or God. What you have done has crossed the line of humanity."

Wayne looked at Terence and said with a heavy heart, "What exactly is humanity?! If there really is a God, did He consider His own bottom line when He created humanity?!"

After a moment's pause, Wayne, his face bruised and swollen, looked at Todd with hopeful eyes: "Your Majesty, my Your Majesty! Do you also hold such a narrow view?! Why can God do what we cannot?! Why use human thinking to bind the existence of truth!"

Todd heard the weeping of the deceased's family members and the clamor of scholars. Some were cursing the undignified experiment, while others were discussing whether the pursuit of truth should be done by any means necessary.

Todd said to Wayne, "Mr. Dunlop, I understand how you feel, but I have to tell you that your thinking is correct, but your method is wrong."
