“I’ll give you some time and space to be alone,” Leoric said, standing up and walking to the other end of the garden, leaving Todd and Mary behind.
Seeing the wary look on her face, Todd spoke first: "Mary, there's something..."
Mary raised her hand to stop him: "To ensure safety, I have a few questions to ask you first."
Ensuring safety?
Todd was a little annoyed, but he still nodded in agreement to the request.
Where did we first meet?
"At the noble banquet in Silver Ring City, I used the Gospel Flower to participate in a betting game."
"Where was I, and where did I tell you about my special ability?"
"In the audience chamber of the Knights' headquarters in Twilight City."
The two continued their question-and-answer session for over a minute.
After confirming that all the answers were correct, Mary finally seemed to breathe a sigh of relief: "Your Majesty, it really is you! How did you get here?! Please forgive my abruptness, the situation in the city is too complicated, I have to be careful."
While expressing his understanding, Todd also asked, "There are a few things I need to confirm with you."
"Please speak."
"First of all, I called out to you and D'Eon in the soul space, why was there no response?"
Mary opened her eyes wide, looking puzzled: "We've been wondering the same thing. Why haven't you held a meeting in so long? We always thought something had happened in Muxi City."
Todd looked Mary up and down: "When was the last time you attended a Soul Meeting?"
About two weeks ago.
Todd mentally calculated the time: "The day we lost contact with you was about a week ago. In that time, did you encounter any unusual people or come into contact with anything strange?"
Mary tried her best to recall that memory, proposing one hypothesis after another, all of which were rejected by Todd until she pointed to a royal brooch on her chest, which finally caught his attention.
Todd shifted his gaze from Mary's fair, snow-white skin, looked at the oddly shaped brooch, and said, "Could you take it off so I can see it?"
Mary nodded, took the object off her chest, and placed it in Todd's hand.
Using the sunlight, Todd examined the brooch carefully.
The silver-white exterior features two swords and a shield. At first glance, it appears to be an extremely ordinary emblem of the Holy Guard City, with nothing suspicious about it. However, it is quite heavy, and the material feels somewhat like a strange metal.
Todd placed the brooch on the table and activated his Soul Space again, this time summoning Mary in without any hindrance.
Back in the real world, Todd picked up the brooch and understood.
It seems that the culprit blocking soul communication is this small brooch.
"Who gave you this?"
Mary replied, “It came from one of my father’s astrologers, who said it was a pass to enter and exit the palace’s inner gardens.”
"An astrologer?"
“That’s right. This astrologer only recently came to my father’s side, but my father trusts him extremely and even gives him the authority to enter and exit the back garden.”
Todd picked up the badge again, examined it carefully, and after memorizing all its features, decided to put the matter aside for a while and talk to Rachel about it later. Then, he handed the badge back to Mary, indicating that she should pin it back to her chest after their conversation.
Mary asked in confusion, "Your Majesty, since we've found something wrong with this brooch, why are you still making me wear it?"
“If the intelligence is correct, then the astrologer you mentioned may be from the Elders’ Council, a very troublesome enemy.” After some thought, Todd decided to be cautious: “Therefore, I need you to maintain the status quo as much as possible and not arouse anyone’s suspicion.”
Seeing that Mary had no further objections, Todd then asked, "The second matter: what progress has the Muxi Mission made in its work regarding the successor of the Holy Guard City?"
Hearing Todd's question, Mary perked up: "Your Majesty, there is something you may not know: Dion has done a great service."
"Made a great contribution?"
“My second brother, Mathilde, the candidate supported by the church, is 'bewitched' by Dion.” Mary said with a smile on her face: “No one expected this to happen. My playboy brother actually fell deeply in love with Dion the moment he saw him.”
Todd was somewhat amused and exasperated: "You mean, His Highness Mathilde has fallen for the knight Dion?"
Mary smiled and nodded: "The world is truly amazing, isn't it? No one would have imagined that my womanizing brother would actually fall in love with another man."
Todd did come up with an explanation for this matter.
Dion possesses a pheromone parasite, and the pheromones emitted by the parasite have completely affected Prince Mathilde's brain.
Mary continued, "After my second brother fell in love with Dion, he wrote him love poems every day and organized countless banquets, all just to dance with him. After spending some time together, Dion obtained a list of nobles who supported the Church faction from him. As long as we give this list to my eldest brother, the matter of the election for the throne will be..."
Todd interrupted her: "Mary, there's something I want you to know."
Before she could ask any questions, Todd once again pulled her into the soul space and showed Mary all the secrets about Sinclair and the church, as well as the conspiracy behind the candidates for the throne, through memory images.
