In the inner city of Muxi, near the port, there is a low hill. Unlike the surrounding rows of buildings and magnificent mansions, this hill has few buildings, only a quiet garden and a solemn cemetery.
As an unwritten custom, those who have made special contributions to the Kingdom of Muxi are entitled to be laid to rest in this cemetery after death.
Two months ago, the war that took place in Lone Rock City brought twenty-seven new 'residents' to this cemetery.
In a sea of flowers under the moonlight, a woman dressed in a formal dress, wearing a black veil and a metal collar around her neck stood before a tombstone, speechless for a long time.
She knelt down, placed the bouquet of flowers in her arms in front of the tombstone, and gently stroked the name on the inscription.
Randall Quincy
The woman repeatedly whispered the name, her unspoken words ultimately condensing into a soft sigh.
She stood up, took one last look at the tombstone, turned around, lowered her head, and left this sorrowful place with endless grief.
At the entrance to the cemetery, the tall orc Carol, wearing a large cloak, sat on the grass, staring blankly at the moon above, his eyes filled with an unyielding sense of bewilderment.
Upon catching sight of the woman out of the corner of her eye, Carol quickly stood up, looked at her gently, and asked in a low voice, "Barbara, are you going back?"
The woman ignored him, lifted the hem of her skirt, stepped out of the cemetery gate, and walked down the mountain.
Carroll followed closely behind her, wanting to get closer, but hesitated and slowed down.
Barbara walked along the dimly lit path, the sounds of laughter from the citizens in the grand square reaching her ears. Through layers of black veils, she looked towards the brightly lit night market, where a bard was playing the lute and singing joyful music on an open-air stage, causing her to stop in her tracks.
Her fervent eyes, like a night rain, stirred my dreams; my song raced across the hesitant strings, chasing after her heart…
Listening to the beautiful music, Barbara slightly opened her mouth, but her raised hands touched the metal ring around her neck, and she seemed to lose all her strength in an instant. Finally, she slowly turned around, disappeared into the darkness, and moved away from the crowd.
A man and a woman, one in front and one behind, walked silently in the darkness.
Back in Wayne Dunlop's underground laboratory, a dejected Barbara returned to her room and slammed the door shut.
The door slammed shut so loudly that it startled Carroll and Aldenan, who were outside.
Aldenan turned to look at Carol and asked, "Have you not said a single word to her all day today?"
Carroll hung his head in frustration and sat down against the wall.
Aldenan stroked his chin and said, "Two months ago, we rescued her from the battlefield. Perhaps that was a mistake... Her body is still alive, but her heart is dead."
Carol shook her head: "I couldn't just sit idly by when I saw her fall."
Aldenan shrugged. "I understand. She was shot by a musket, her wound was infected, and she was in critical condition. We had no one else to turn to but Mr. Dunlop… Although he saved her with the Tyrant Potion, her body…"
Carol clutched her head in anguish: "Barbara has lost everything she cherished, and it's all my fault."
Seeing the orc's remorseful expression, Aldnan scratched his head and tried his best to comfort her, "Try to think positively. At least she's not like she was when she first arrived, thinking about ending her life every day... That's progress..."
The tightly closed door was suddenly flung open, and Barbara, wearing a black veil, asked the two people sitting there, "Where is Wayne Dunlop?"
Carroll hurriedly stood up and replied, "Mr. Dunlop works in the dock and probably won't be coming down anytime soon."
Barbara turned around and said coldly, "I'm going to find him!"
Aldenan rushed to her and said hastily, "Oh, Miss Barbara, don't be in such a hurry! You know, there are still many 'unauthorized people' in the upper dock. If they see us, the consequences will be unimaginable."
Barbara stared into the werewolf's eyes and said resolutely, "I don't care about anything else! I want to see him today!"
Aldenan made an apologetic gesture: "Miss Barbara, please don't be so willful. I know that having a new face might be a little uncomfortable for you. But we should always look on the bright side... For example, you look much better than the two of us now... Hey! What are you doing?!"
Barbara held her hands with palms facing upwards, her body radiating a faint blue light. The torches on the wall flickered, and two bright flames instantly appeared in her hands.
Seeing the werewolf's panicked expression reflected in her pupils, Barbara suddenly raised her hands upwards, and the flames instantly surged, turning into two bright and blazing pillars of fire.
The pillar of fire continued to grow, becoming larger and brighter, until it almost reached the ceiling of the passageway.
"I surrender! I surrender!" Aldenan hurriedly retreated, waving his arms and shaking his head, as if afraid that the irritable young lady in front of him would vent her anger on him in the next second.
"This is truly an amazing ability!"
A shout of praise rang out at the end of the passageway.
The three looked in the direction of the sound and saw Wayne Dunlop, dressed in a lab coat, slowly walking over.
Upon seeing this person, Barbara's voice was filled with anger and anguish: "It's you! I hate you! Why did you turn me into this!"
