Chapter 444 Post-War Conference

Shaman Minnie held out her hand, gesturing for Randall to continue forward. As she backed away and closed the door, she said, “Young man, remember my words. Before God, everything we see and think is no longer a secret.”

Randall looked at the black dragon in the empty square, swallowed nervously, and took trembling steps forward.

The black dragon looked down at the humans with its golden pupils, and its first words surprised Randall: "Come closer, don't be afraid, I'm not going to eat you."

Randall smiled, stood beneath the black dragon, and looked up, saying, "You rescued me from a battlefield filled with smoke and gunfire. It would be a waste to do it all for food."

Black Dragon stared at Randall's face, his eyes narrowing slightly, and said, "Answer my question."

Randall nodded and said, "You saved my life. As long as it doesn't involve betrayal or conspiracy, I will do my best to answer your questions, both morally and logically."

The black dragon lowered its head slightly, carefully observing Randall's every move, and asked, "You had the opportunity to leave that dead land of Lone Rock City, why did you choose to stay in the end?"

Randall opened his mouth, about to speak.

Heilong continued, "Don't tell me about buying time or waiting for reinforcements. You should know in your heart that those are just excuses to cover things up."

Randall stood there, stunned, and lowered his head, lost in thought.

The black dragon spoke slowly in a rather strange tone: "You and your mother were driven out of Lone Rock City. Because of your alien identity, the city's inhabitants did some very terrible things to you. Logically speaking, you should hate that city and all the people there. Why? Why did you stay to help them?"

Randall, pale and swaying, recalled those painful images and sounds from the past.

“When I was a child, my mother once took me to a circus…” Randall said slowly in a trembling voice, “I saw a huge creature from the south there—elephants. They were so tall and so strong, but the trainers could tie them to one place with just a stake and a rope to prevent them from escaping.”

“I once asked my mother, ‘These elephants are so strong, why don’t they use their trunks to lift the stakes and run away from the circus?’” Randall shook his head and said, “My mother told me that they tried when they were young, but failed. In the end, they not only failed to escape, but were also beaten and starved.”

"When they grew up, they thought about trying to escape again. But the painful memories of the past led these elephants to choose the most conservative and safest way - to stay in place."

After saying this, Randall sighed: "Back in Lone Rock, I think the biggest reason I stayed was to prove that pulling out the stakes wasn't such a terrible thing."

Black Dragon looked at Randall and said calmly, "However, you paid a heavy price for pulling out the stake."

Randall lowered his head and remained silent for a long time.

The black dragon then asked, "If you had known beforehand that the price of pulling out the stakes would be the life of your loved ones, would you still have made the same choice?"

Hesitation and struggle appeared on Randall's face: "I...I don't know."

The black dragon paused for a moment, then spoke again: "Randall, rest well in Froststone City. The things you care about will come to a conclusion."

Randall looked up at the black dragon, gave a listless bow, and disappeared into the gate at the end of the road.

The Valkyrie Ivy, clad in leather armor and with a short sword at her waist, emerged from the woods behind the plaza and stood beside the black dragon. She asked, "He still seems lost. Do you really think that young man is capable of shouldering this responsibility?"

“Not only him, but all humans are naturally like this.” The black dragon waved its claws, condensing some pale blue particles in the air into its hand: “Randall may not be the best choice for reconciling the balance between aliens and humans, but at least it is a starting point.”

"Todd, I have a question."

Black Dragon looked down at Ivy and asked, "What?"

"What are your plans for dealing with Mu Xicheng?"

Todd looked at Evie in silence for a moment, then said softly, "I understand what you mean."

Ivy continued, "Twilight City and Froststone City are like two carriages traveling on different roads. As the roads fork, they've drifted further and further apart. Have you ever thought about bringing them back together?"

Todd shook his head: "In the short term, I won't deliberately change the state of these two cities. You can think of them as two different experiments..."

Evie approached Todd, stroked the dragon scales, and asked, "There's something else... that concerns you."

Todd guessed what she was going to say next and said helplessly, "Evie, as I said before, although I can transform into human form in a short time, my bodily fluids have completely deviated from the human category. They may be highly toxic and may cause unpredictable consequences. If we were to combine with them rashly, it could harm my partner."

“I don’t care,” Ivy said, sticking out her neck. “In the history of the gods, deities often took human form and mated with other races to produce offspring…”

Todd said with a headache, "That's just mythology and gossip. You have no idea what the real consequences are. Here's what we'll do: I'll ask someone who knows the inside story when I have the chance, and I'll tell you when I have the answer."
