Chapter 462 A Major Event

Meredith left.

Todd now understands why this woman had tried so hard to dissuade him from becoming a tyrant.

Now that I think about it, will those who gain power really, as she said, gradually become addicted to the pleasure of power, eventually forget their original intentions and become unable to extricate themselves?

Todd couldn't give himself an answer, but he had heard a saying in his previous life.

Between humans and beasts, there is only a thin wall, and what truly tears down this wall is the desire hidden deep within our hearts.

Shaking off these jumbled thoughts, Todd turned his attention to the present.

Reaching the end of the room, Todd took the Deathly Silence Gun from the wall, untied the burlap wrapped around it, looked at the crimson flowing on the gun, and felt the aura contained within his hand.

Todd wondered if the creatures that Scáthach spoke of, who destroyed the Linglan Empire thousands of years ago, possessed such powerful abilities as the Deathly Silence Spear, and whether this was also the reason for their fall and self-destruction.

By channeling the power of his soul into the spear, Deathly Silence, under Todd's deliberate guidance, emitted a slow and steady hum.

Reflecting on his use of the spear during this period, Todd gradually discovered that as long as Dead Silence was aimed at any living object, the spear would automatically lock onto the object's dark matter wavelength and control its direction.

principle?

Todd tried to analyze the spear using the cyborg's perspective and eagle eye, but all he got was a bunch of meaningless silicon-based molecular structures.

To truly understand the power contained within this spear, it might be necessary to find a top physics expert; relying solely on his academic abilities would likely be insufficient to unravel its mysteries.

After hanging the Death Silence Spear back up, Todd went down the stairs and into the living room on the first floor.

Deirdre stood up from the recliner and looked at him with concern, saying, "You don't look well."

Leaning against the wall, Ivy said coldly, "Did that woman say something?"

Todd gently shook his head: "Evie, do you remember the question you once asked me?"

"question?"

"You once asked me if I had ever considered bringing Twilight City and Froststone City together, like two carriages that are drifting further and further apart, heading down completely different paths?"

Ivy nodded: "That's right, I did ask. As king, everything you do in Twilight City is completely different from everything you do in Froststone City. I don't understand, what's the point?"

Todmore stroked his cheek and said with a wry smile, "I did this out of fear."

"fear?!"

"I have put in a tremendous amount of effort to bring Twilight City and Froststone City to where they are today. I don't want to destroy them with my own hands because of my own actions."

Evie seemed not to understand Todd's thoughts: "I don't understand where your worries come from at all. Are you worried that your people and believers will no longer be loyal?"

Todd craned his neck to look at the ceiling, then let out a long sigh: "I'm not worried about my people, I'm worried about myself... worried that I'll change..."

Todd continued, "Some of Meredith's words have indeed been proven true by history... Those monarchs who were ambitious and wise in their youth often became cruel, selfish, and callous in their later years."

"So, regarding Twilight City and Froststone City, I am actually experimenting with two different paths. In Twilight City, I allow the vast majority of people to try to govern themselves based on reason and enlightenment; while as for the believers in Froststone City, I conceal part of the truth from them and run the country through the centralized power and constraints of divine faith."

Todd spread his hands toward Evie: "I can't say for sure which path is more beneficial to the continuation of the race and the development of the nation. I can only continue to observe and analyze..."

Compared to Deirdre's stunned expression, Ivy shook her head in frustration.

She walked to the window, suddenly pushed it open, pointed at the temple, and said, "Come and listen!"

Todd listened intently, and a chorus of praise and prayers echoed through the sky.

"May the children of the gods protect us!"

"I must go to the realm of the gods after I die!"

"Death is no longer a shackle!"

Evie looked at Todd and said decisively, "I don't want to think about those troublesome things you mentioned! In my opinion, whether it's deception or the truth, as long as it makes the people feel happy, that's what makes a successful monarch! As for the future... what's the use of worrying about those things now?!"

Todd chuckled, looking at the tall, imposing woman. After a moment, he said, "These words are so much like your style..."

Todd walked to Evie's side, listening to the words praising the gods outside the window, and said softly, "Perhaps you're right, the key is now. There's no use thinking about the future now..."

——————————

In May of the year 1175 in the Christian calendar, six months after Todd's battle with Cú Chulainn, and also the sixth year since he came to the other world.

A perfectly ordinary little thing happened in Froststone City—a woman was confirmed by a shamanic healer to be one month pregnant.

But for Todd, this was a huge deal—because the pregnant woman was Deirdre.

When Todd heard the news from the shaman Minnie, for a moment he doubted his ears.

"You mean, Deirdre is pregnant?"

Minnie, leaning on her cane, looked at Todd, who was staring in astonishment: "I've checked repeatedly, and she is indeed a month pregnant."
