Chapter 489 Meredith's Identity

Looking at the words on the bronze plaque, Todd took two steps back in disbelief, and said in a trembling voice, "This is where she was born..."

Meredith flapped its wings, blowing away the dry cloth and dust covering the culture tank, revealing its contents.

One corpse after another floated in the vessel; some looked like humans, while others looked like nothing more than a lump of flesh.

“This is the early laboratory of one of the three elders—Iliad.” Meredith walked to a water tank, looked at the corpse of a two-year-old girl inside, and said in a deep voice, “The technology of human cloning, although it was invented a long time ago, has been lost to this day. Many of the books that introduced its principles have been lost, and the rest are scattered in the underground palace of the Elder Council.”

"Decades ago, Eleanor, one of the three elders, found a notebook from a heterodox scholar about human cloning and showed it to Eliard. In exchange, she offered to give Eliard the notebook if he could complete the human cloning ritual described in the book."

"The Heterogeneous Alliance Association was stuck on the crucial step of resurrecting its leader at the time. Some of the contents of this book explained and filled in many doubts about the resurrection ritual. So it was undoubtedly a timely help for the association at that time, and Iliad naturally accepted the deal."

Todd seized on a key point and pressed, "What does Eleanor get in this deal?"

Meredith tapped the surface of the crystal culture tank with a raven feather and said softly, "This is what Eleanor wants."

Todd was taken aback. "She wants Rachel?"

"As one of the three elders, Eleanor has already reached the pinnacle of power and influence among all the elders. There is only one thing she cares about, and that is immortality."

"How to escape the scythe of death and stop the ravages of time became her top priority. The ritual of human cloning gave her an idea. If she could use a small part of her body to create an exact replica of herself, then when her body aged, she could harvest the organs of the replica for replacement, and even use a resurrection ritual to change her body in order to achieve immortality."

Todd's lips turned pale, and his fingertips trembled uncontrollably. "So, Rachel is actually a clone of Eleanor, and after her birth, her organs could be harvested at any time, or she could even lose her body?!"

“Iliad, who hoped to resurrect the leader of the alien race, naturally did not want to see this happen. So after creating a clone of Eleanor, namely Rachel, he injected poison into her body, causing Rachel to have a severe rejection reaction at that time, making her a failed product.”

"Eleanor abandoned the human cloning project and asked Eliard to erase Rachel, the 'failed' clone. But he did not do so, instead lying that he needed to continue observing the clone's condition and might be able to find a solution. Thus, Rachel survived."

Todd covered his forehead with his hands and said bitterly, "After that, Rachel's only friend, Mia Evandrin, chose to 'commit suicide' to escape Eleanor's persecution. As punishment, Eleanor put Rachel's soul into Mia's body, making her live in pain and guilt forever... Everything she experienced was like living in hell every day."

Sitting on the stone steps, Todd looked at the experimental equipment and crystal vessels filling the room and sighed deeply. "Didn't you ever think about getting rid of Eleanor?"

"Get rid of her?"

Meredith turned to Todd, amused. "Do you think defeating her is an easy thing?"

Todd was somewhat surprised. "Even you can't defeat her?"

“I was able to escape unscathed from her, but if we really fought, the outcome would be hard to say. Besides, even if Eleanor is eliminated, there will still be a second or third Eleanor in the Elder Council. Ambitious people and power-hungry people have never been rare.”

Todd asked curiously, "Eleanor was a tyrant too?"

"No, but her special abilities make her even more troublesome than a tyrant."

"What kind of superpower?"

"Before explaining Eleanor's powers, let me ask you: do you understand the difference between hereditary and non-hereditary powers?"

Todd nodded. "I've heard that non-hereditary 'abilities' can be transmitted through water, food, and so on, while hereditary 'abilities' can only be passed down from parents to children."

"Correct. Moreover, compared to non-hereditary abilities, inherited abilities generally have a longer duration of effect and greater destructive power... such as dimensional cutting, mind shock, gravity explosion, etc..."

Meredith covered her lower abdomen with one hand and slowly said, "Eleanor is called the 'Mother Goddess' because her powers come from a special organ in her body—the uterus. She can use intercourse with powerful alien species to copy and acquire their genetic 'sexual' powers."

Seeing Todd's astonishment, Meredith shook her head and said, "Think about it, how many mutants with genetic 'sexual' abilities were turned into breeding machines after she stole their powers from them, all under the Legion Soldier Plan orchestrated by this Mother Goddess..."

Todd looked on incredulously. "You mean, this Mother Goddess can replicate and use those genetic 'abilities'? How many abilities does she have right now?"

"Nobody knows, which is why I say this guy's existence is more troublesome than those tyrants."
