Chapter 511 Mary's Return

The Western Palace, the King's audience chamber.

Sitting on the sofa, Rachel read the report Karin had just submitted and said with a smile, "These Silver Ring nobles are really interesting."

Todd stood by the window, his back to the door, gazing at the scenery outside without saying a word.

Rachel tossed the report onto the table, shook her head, and said, "In my mind, nobles are nothing but a bunch of stupid and arrogant fools. Who would have thought that they would actually try to return to the stage in this way?"

Todd sighed deeply: "My original intention was for citizens to use reason to jointly govern this country, but I now realize that Twilight City has really gone too far astray..."

“When faith is no longer present in people’s hearts, money will climb to the top of the pyramid, becoming the standard by which all value is measured.” Rachel reclined on the sofa, her voluptuous figure on full display. “Humans have never been purely rational animals. The so-called citizenry is like a pile of dry tinder doused with oil; just a tiny spark can make them abandon reason and become the most complete madmen…”

Todd turned around and pulled a book from the bookshelf on the table; it was an excerpt of the words that Myris had given him before he left.

Todd turned to one of the pages and read softly, “Human beings have never truly been free. Lacking a sense of security, they must constantly seek something, believe in it, and obey it. This is human nature, and also the weakness of society.”

Rachel stared at Todd's face and asked, "What do you want me to do next? I can mobilize the people of the Alien Association to secretly execute those nobles."

Todd put down his book and looked at Rachel helplessly, saying, "Kill these people, but what about afterwards? Soon, new merchant leaders will stand up to run for cabinet, a new noble class will step onto the stage of history, playing the people like puppets, robbing them of their wealth, and exploiting their flesh and blood... Their nature will never change."

Rachel looked at Todd and calmly asked, "So what should Muxi City do now?"

Todd sat in the chair, closed his eyes, and fell into deep thought, his expression more serious and earnest than ever before.

"Initially, in seeking a way for the kingdom to survive, I designed two completely different paths for Twilight City and Froststone City. For Twilight City, I tried to minimize the role of religion, eradicate the traces of divine authority from humanity, and attempt to awaken human reason; for Froststone City, I used the Soul Space to construct a sacred realm, allowing believers to deeply believe in the cycle of cause and effect and the laws of good and evil... The result was..."

Rachel snapped her fingers: "Froststone has won, hasn't it? It proves that humanity needs powerful gods as pillars of faith, and so-called rationality is nothing more than an excuse to cause chaos."

Standing up from the sofa, Rachel slowly walked to Todd, squatted down, and looked up at him: "Todd, when you try to distribute power to the citizens, the real beneficiaries are those ambitious people hiding in the shadows. If you don't get rid of them now, this kingdom you built will eventually end up like the Silver Ring Kingdom."

Todd lowered his head, gazing at the woman's exquisite face: "Sometimes, lumps appear on the patient's skin. Initially, these lumps are hidden beneath the skin, and the doctor's advice is not to remove them for now. Once they grow larger and reach the surface, they can be surgically removed completely... Rachel, I not only want to eliminate these nobles, but I also want to perform surgery on the entire city of Twilight..."

After a moment's thought, Rachel understood the deeper meaning behind the other's words: "Todd, I don't object to you doing this, but you should know that this will involve the entire Twilight City."

Todd shook his head and said, "The current Twilight City is already riddled with holes. If the path of reason is not feasible, then we can only let the storm of faith sweep everything away."

Rachel stood up and nodded: "I understand. Since you've made your decision, I'll arrange everything."

Just as the two were about to say something more, a guard knocked on the door.

"Your Majesty, the Queen of Holy Guard City wishes to meet with you."

Todd frowned. "The Queen of Saint Guard? Mary? What's she doing here at this time?"

Rachel winked at Todd: "Need I say more? As soon as she heard you were back in Twilight City, she must have come all the way here to see you."

Hearing Rachel's slightly teasing tone, Todd said with a wry smile, "Queen Mary and I are not what you think... Never mind, you might as well stay and listen to what she has to say."

Rachel gave a malicious smile: "I'll stay, but not here."

After saying this, she went into the side bedroom of the audience room, left the door ajar, and quietly waited for the show to begin.

About five minutes later, there was a knock on the door of the audience chamber, and the guard's voice rang out again: "Your Majesty, the Queen of Holy Guard City has arrived."

"Please let her in."

"yes."

When Mary entered the room, Todd, who hadn't seen her in a long time, had the illusion that the room had been illuminated.

Her long, silky hair was piled on top of her head, her eyes, as bright as the moon, sparkled, and her skin, as white and translucent as snow jade, was dazzlingly white under the sunlight.

In Todd's memory, Mary's beauty had left a deep impression on him, but after a period of time, her beauty had not faded at all, and was even more astonishing.
