Amidst the inferno, Todd looked up at the roof of the hall, closed his eyes, and sighed: "In the end, am I still unable to extricate myself from this?"
Mary's voice came from behind him: "Are you, like me, tired of all this scheming and deceit?"
Todd nodded calmly: "You're right..."
“You and I both tried to escape things we didn’t want to face, but in the end we were forced to get involved.” Mary stood up, looked at the burning walls and curtains in the hall, and said softly, “I’ve figured some things out.”
Todd turned to Mary and asked softly, "What have you figured out?"
Mary ripped the necklace off her neck, letting the pearls and gems roll to the ground.
She slowly walked down the steps, smiling as she said to Todd, "I thought the reason why the past, that nightmare of Silver Ring City, kept appearing before my eyes was because of my damn superpower. But actually, the biggest reason is that I haven't let go of the past."
Mary kicked her high heels down the steps, letting her fair and flawless feet tread on the carpet: "I thought I was abandoned and ignored, and I looked in the mirror every day and felt sorry for my fate, but in fact it was because I never tried to fight for it."
Mary gently untied the ribbon of her dress, letting her clothes slip to the ground. In the bright firelight, her skin was as white as snow, her figure graceful, and there was not a single flaw on her body.
"I thought I was brave enough to face everything, but my pride and my naivety made me deceive myself time and time again, and I didn't even dare to face the feelings I longed for most."
Looking at the stunningly beautiful goddess before him, who seemed to have stepped out of a classical oil painting, slowly walking towards him, Todd's throat went dry: "You..."
Mary tiptoed and wrapped her arms around Todd's neck, a faint blush spreading across her cheeks: "You don't need to say anything at a time like this."
The unexpected kiss, like bright sunshine, dispelled the gloom of the night and lit up the beacon of the soul.
Gently touching Mary's fresh, moist, and sweet lips, feeling the sweet saliva caressing his tongue, Todd reached out and hugged the woman tightly in his arms. His palms touched the softness and fullness of her body, and his nostrils were filled with a lustrous fragrance.
The flames in the hall grew ever more intense, their bright light adorning everything in the temple with a festive glow. A couple, no longer bound by constraints, intertwined, their bodies playing a hymn of their souls.
Standing before the palace gates, Rutledge gazed at the palace engulfed in flames, remaining silent for a long time.
One of his men approached Rutledge and reminded him, "Master, it's time to leave."
Rutledge sighed, "Todd Fischer, that legendary holy king, was so foolish and ignorant. Accustomed to a life of ease, he couldn't see the situation clearly and tried to use his insignificant power to stop the march of history..."
The subordinate said, "With the Holy King dead, the entire Muxi Kingdom will fall into chaos tomorrow, which is the perfect opportunity for the Dawson family to rise."
Rutledge turned and walked forward: "You're right. The Holy King fell in this very tomb before me, marking the end of an era. And I, as the patriarch of the Dawson family, will step over the bones of these fools and become the creator of a new history!"
Just as Rutledge was full of vigor and fighting spirit, a clear dragon roar came from the burning palace and resounded throughout the entire city of Muxi.
The roar was so terrifying that it seemed to pierce through everyone's bodies and penetrate their souls.
A bewildered Rutledge slowly turned around and looked at the "tomb of the Holy King" he had mentioned, large beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
"Impossible, this is impossible!"
Before he could finish speaking, a loud bang was heard.
The palace roof was blasted into pieces by a huge fireball, and a giant dragon claw, taller than a person, emerged from the flames and black smoke, grabbing the edge of the hole in the roof.
Immediately afterwards, a colossal black dragon, existing only in ancient mythology, burst forth from the burning palace, unleashing another deafening roar that shook the heavens and earth, terrifying all creatures in Muxi City.
This black dragon was over forty meters long, its sharp claws reflecting light like broadswords, and its powerful body seemed to be cast from steel.
He flapped his enormous dragon wings, and the wind pressure swept up the bushes and flowers, creating a storm that swept across the entire royal city in an instant.
Rutledge stared blankly as the enormous black dragon soared higher and higher, utterly on the verge of collapse. Ignoring his men's attempts to pull him back, he slowly walked towards the dragon, hysterically roaring at the sky, "I know those tricks of the aliens! It's all just an illusion!"
The black dragon, reigning supreme in the sky, turned its dark golden dragon eyes and looked down at the tiny and pitiful humans at its feet. Suddenly, a pillar of fire several meters wide shot out from its mouth, passing over Rutledge's head and striking straight into the middle of its minions behind him.
Before they even had time to dodge, more than a dozen assassins, painstakingly trained by the Dawson family, were reduced to charred corpses engulfed in flames in a mere instant.
Some of the remaining people knelt on the ground with tears streaming down their faces, praying for God to appear; others lay on the ground, incoherent and completely unable to move.
