Emerging from the underground dock cave, Todd followed Wayne along the massive man-made passageway deeper into the cavern.
Feeling the temperature drop around him, Todd asked, "Where does this road lead?"
Without turning his head, Wayne said, "Go through the northern part of Twilight City, and head straight to the bay near the Falling Star Mountains."
Why put the warship's cannons there for testing?
"Firstly, it's for the sake of secrecy, and secondly, the research and development and manufacturing of this weapon have relatively high requirements for the surrounding environment."
Todd nodded and asked no more questions.
A long underground tunnel, about 300 meters long in total.
The tunnel was equipped with multiple checkpoints and sentry posts. Every few dozen meters, you could see the Crusader's alien warriors, faithfully protecting everything at the end of the passage.
The latter part of the tunnel is a gentle uphill slope. The further Todd went, the more he could sense something strange in the air.
The hair all over its body slowly stood on end, and a faint crackling sound could be heard.
After climbing the last slope, Wayne passed through the kneeling Crusaders and went straight to a closed stone door. He turned back and said, "Your Majesty, before you go in, you and your servants need to remove all metal objects from your bodies."
Todd nodded to his attendants, and soon the weapons and armor were removed and handed over to the Crusader soldiers for temporary safekeeping.
Two orcs, shirtless, approached the stone gate from either side.
With a deep, muffled roar, the massive stone door was slowly pulled open.
A surge of air, imbued with a powerful electrical charge, burst forth from the crack in the door.
Todd slowly walked into the weapons laboratory built in the mountains, and was utterly shocked by what he saw.
A massive railgun, tens of meters long and taller than a person, constructed from a keel, was installed in the very center of the laboratory.
Two massive, straight, dragon-like pillars lay flat and parallel, joining at their ends to form a U-shaped track. A blue light, sometimes strong, sometimes weak, flowed rapidly across the surface of the railgun like water, making the object appear like an alien weapon from the future.
Under the watchful eyes of hundreds of laboratory staff, Todd walked step by step to the railgun, stretched out his finger toward the gun body, and a powerful electric current pierced through the surface, striking his fingertip and rising a wisp of blue smoke.
"Your Majesty, be careful!" Wayne stepped closer and said, "The energy pool is charging, and the outer shell of the cannon barrel is not fully installed yet. It is extremely dangerous to touch it at this time!"
Todd smiled and wiped the dust off his fingers, using his X-ray vision and Eagle Eye to look inside the railgun.
One after another, Tesla parasites emitting a blinding blue light were fixed inside the cannon body, forming an electromagnetic circuit in a special U-shaped keel track filled with culture medium.
"The design principles and internal structure of this giant railgun were based on some pictures and descriptions in the Library of Heaven, combined with the characteristics of alien creatures. After nearly two years of research by scholars, the design drawings were finally finalized and construction began."
Wayne put on his insulated suit and stood about five or six meters away from the railgun, explaining and analyzing: "Roughly speaking, this weapon can be divided into four main parts: the energy storage tank, the accelerator, the gun body structure, and the firing switch."
"The energy storage tank is installed directly below the gun body, with a total weight of nearly 29.65 tons, making it the heaviest component on the entire warship. This heavy component not only provides energy for the entire railgun but also plays a role in stabilizing the gun body."
"The energy storage tank consists of 36 energy storage modules connected in series, and each module contains more than 900 Tesla parasites. These Tesla parasites, which look like worms, can convert bioenergy into electrical energy and store it in their bodies. The keel parasite, due to its inherent fireproof and electrical-proof properties, is the best container to encase these Tesla parasites."
As Todd listened, he did some calculations: "36 battery-powered keel modules, each module storing 900 Tesla parasites, so the total number of Tesla parasites is [number]?"
Wayne confirmed, "That's right, that's about how many Tesla parasites are in the energy storage module. All the parasites have undergone rigorous screening and cultivation, and are coiled and fixed in the container to ensure the smooth operation of the circuit and the stability of energy storage."
Todd asked doubtfully, "With so many Tesla parasites using magnetic rails to discharge electricity, how powerful would the projectiles they launch be?"
"Your Majesty, what I am about to explain is the accelerator."
"The accelerator is the most important and technologically complex component of this railgun. Utilizing the excellent conductivity and high-power capacitance of the Tesla parasite, we coiled and spiraled the parasite to form a U-shaped circuit return."
Wayne put his two thumbs together and raised the other eight fingers upwards: "When the worm inside this U-shaped track is stimulated in its nervous system, it will start to activate the electric field inside its body, causing the charge to move from one end of the U-shaped track to the other end, thereby generating a super strong electromagnetic field between the two guide planes, thus firing the projectile placed on the track."
Wayne took a set of experimental data from his assistant behind him: "Currently, through repeated modifications and improvements, this railgun can launch objects weighing about 11.5 kilograms at a muzzle velocity of 2,800 meters per second."
Todd walked to the front of the railgun, crouched down to look at the rails, and asked, "What about the range?"
