Before Scáthach could speak, a deep voice came from beneath Todd's feet: "Ah, I know this. Thousands of years ago, a group of philosophers divided the value orientation of the soul into four extremes—the opposing forces of order and chaos, and the opposing forces of good and evil."
Scáthach shrugged at Todd: "That's Leviathan's favorite topic."
Leviathan's voice came again from underground: "That's right. Todd, do you remember the questions I asked you in the Soul Space?"
"Which orientation—selfishness or altruism—is more suitable for the survival and progress of the race? Should powerful deities interfere with the choices of all living beings?"
"These problems, in essence, boil down to the opposition between order and chaos, good and evil."
Todd rubbed his temples and said, "Wait a minute, before we discuss these issues, I want to ask, what exactly are the value orientations of angels and demons?"
Scáthach replied, “Shields represents the ultimate of order, while Mathernas represents the ultimate of chaos. When they think about and judge problems, they consider them from two different extremes and eventually reach an agreement through negotiation and compromise. This is why I created them in the first place, to introduce two opposing algorithmic mechanisms to make a numerical quantitative judgment of the soul, and ultimately reflect it in the scales.”
Todd asked, "So, angels aren't good, and demons aren't evil."
Leviathan began, “The concepts of good angels and evil demons are merely words used by people to deceive children. But this brings us back to the point we were discussing earlier. Order and chaos represent the state of all things, while good and evil are simply subjective self-judgments made by living beings. Do you understand what I mean?”
Todd frowned. "I don't quite understand."
"Let me put it this way: even if all life were to become extinct, the duality of order and chaos would still exist in the universe, because their existence does not require consciousness as a basis; while good and evil are the subjective judgments of intelligent beings on language, behavior and phenomena. If life were to perish, there would naturally be no such thing as good and evil."
Todd said thoughtfully, "I understand a little."
Leviathan continued, "Let me delve a little deeper into this topic. Good and evil are a false dichotomy; they both exist and do not exist..."
Todd interrupted Leviathan: "Wait, I'm a little confused."
Scáthach shook her head and said, "Leviathan likes to use this philosophical tone to discuss these issues. To put it simply, the emergence of good and evil is often accompanied by the user's subjective imagination. For example, regarding me, Leviathan, and you, Todd, for us, good means stopping genocide and allowing the existence of all beings to be in a virtuous cycle."
Todd nodded and said, "That's right, that's correct."
Scáthach looked into Todd's eyes and said softly, "To achieve this supreme good we envision, sometimes we have to take actions that are not comfortable. For example, sometimes we must deceive believers and hide the truth from them; sometimes we ask others to give up their personal possessions and pursuits to meet the needs and development of the community; sometimes we even... we may even have to sacrifice a person or a race, forcing them to give up their right to continue living..."
