Randall looked puzzled: "What are you talking about?"
Aldnan jumped out of the sunroof in a panic, stumbled to Randall, and shouted, "Hurry up! It'll be too late if we're too late!"
Carol grabbed Aldnan by the neck and pulled him under her arm: "Calm down, talk slowly!"
Aldenan's face turned pale. Just as he was about to speak, a roar like a tsunami came from afar, growing louder and louder.
Feeling the ground tremble, Carroll nervously swallowed. "I have a bad feeling."
Suddenly, Bourville, who was guarding the gate, said, "The group of people is back."
"That group of people?"
Randall turned his head and saw the group of church soldiers who had just fled running back to the corridor in a panic.
Carroll glanced at the group of soldiers fleeing towards him and said in a low voice, "It looks like something is chasing them."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a humanoid monster appeared at the end of the corridor.
The monster was dressed in the robes of a church deacon and held a bloodstained Bible in his hand. It appeared to be human, but its entire body was covered with black parasites as thick as a child's arm, and its skin and flesh were no longer recognizable.
"By the Dragon God! What the hell is that?!" Burville's eyes widened in disbelief.
Carroll opened his mouth in surprise and murmured, "It looks like it was a human, or at least it used to be."
Soon, more and more parasitic zombies appeared in the corridor. Some of them were dressed in gorgeous aristocratic clothes, while others looked like ordinary citizens.
When Barbara found an infant possessed by a black parasite among the monsters, she could no longer hold back and squatted in a corner to vomit.
Soon, hundreds and thousands of zombies poured into the corridor, looking from a distance like a black "sea of insects".
The zombie running at the front lunged at the fleeing soldiers, knocking one of them, who couldn't dodge in time, to the ground.
Hundreds of parasites crawled out of the zombies' bodies, accompanied by heart-wrenching screams, and burrowed into the soldiers' bodies.
Another soldier saw this, hesitated for a moment, then picked up his longsword and cut off half of the zombie's head, intending to save his comrade.
Black blood splattered from the zombie's wounds, falling directly onto the soldier. This 'black blood' seemed to have a life of its own, seeping into the armor and clothes, and directly entering the victim's body.
Just half a minute later, parasites began to grow wildly inside the victim's body. These parasites crawled out of the victim's eye sockets, mouth, ears, and all other exits, twisting and dancing in mid-air.
Stunned, Randall suddenly realized what was happening and immediately ordered, "Close the gate! Block the gate with barricades!"
As Carroll and Bulville began closing the gate, Randall turned to the children behind him and shouted, "Hurry up! Drop everything! Get into the tunnel as fast as you can!"
“Father Pedro! Father Pedro! Can you hear me?!”
Randall called out twice more, but no one answered.
Soon, Randall found Pedro looking dejected by a pillar, with a girl sitting next to him sobbing softly.
Upon seeing Randall, Pedro's pale face broke into a slight smile: "Today is not my lucky day."
Randall slowly lifted Pedro's coat, and the glaring blood on the other man's chest made him gasp.
"How...how could you?"
Pedro sighed softly: "When those guys fired the cannon just now, there was a piece of shrapnel..."
The girl beside Pedro cried, "No, the priest did it to save me..."
Pedro touched the girl's face: "It's not your fault, go."
Randall frowned and called out to those behind him, "Kellogg, come here!"
Soon, the lizardman arrived beside Pedro.
After examining him, Kellogg said, "A piece of shrapnel shattered his lung."
Is it curable?
“In Twilight City, it’s not a problem. Here, it’s a big problem.” Kellogg looked at the wound again: “Without the right equipment and medicine, I can’t save him.”
Randall gritted his teeth and said, "We'll make a stretcher and get him out."
Kellogg shook his head: "Any movement will worsen the wound, blood will fill his lungs, and he will eventually suffocate to death."
Seeing that Randall still wanted to speak, Pedro laboriously raised his hand and patted the former on the shoulder: "Let me stay."
"Stay? Are you crazy?!"
Pedro smiled and said, “I have lived in this city since I was a child. Everything here feels like home to me. My grandfather and my father are buried here, and I have never thought of leaving.”
Randall leaned forward, saying anxiously, "Did you see those monsters outside? They'll be rushing in soon! If you come with us, there's still a sliver of hope for survival..."
Pedro looked at Randall and said slowly, "My child, death is not frightening to me. Living a few more years is just seeing more of this world. Everyone will eventually walk the same path. What I really care about is whether I have fulfilled my mission in this life. After I die, will I be able to face the Lord with a clear conscience?"
Pedro watched the children leave one by one, a happy smile spreading across his face: "Now I can be sure that before God, I can proudly tell him that I have fulfilled my mission."
