Dusk falls on the western city, the southern defense line.
Randall, clad in dragonbone armor, weaved through the Crusader soldiers, making his way towards the collapsed tower.
Along the way, the Crusaders looked at him with many different kinds of gazes.
Some people are curious, some admire, and some despise.
However, it is undeniable that Randall's experiences are so legendary that they cannot be overstated in the entire city of Twilight.
However, facing these Crusaders, Randall had no intention of stopping; he now had only one thought—to see his wife as soon as possible.
Walking into the plaza behind the tower, hundreds of makeshift tents were toppled and knocked over by the earthquake.
Carefully leaping over the wide and deep pits in the ground, Randall went straight to a tent, took out a cloak he had prepared beforehand, and said, "It's me."
A weak female voice then rang out: "Come in."
Donning a cloak, Barbara stepped into the tent, where several elven female healers were preparing for the birth ceremony. Barbara, her pregnant belly prominent, lay on a cotton bed fixed to the ground, her forehead covered in sweat.
Randall nodded to the elven healers, casting grateful glances at them.
No one paid him any attention; everyone continued doing their own thing.
A little embarrassed, Randall knelt down beside Barbara, put on sterilized gloves, and gently wiped the sweat from her forehead: "How are you?"
Barbara: "I know it's been a long time, but the time isn't right yet..."
Randall: "You can stay in Twilight City, where there are better medical facilities. This is a battlefield, after all."
Barbara shook her head and said, "This is what I can do. I can't stay behind and hide behind you."
Randall sighed softly and said, "There's good news. The earthquake has stopped, and the sea is gradually calming down."
Barbara looked up through the hole in the tent and saw the blood-red sky casting an eerie red glow over the entire tent.
Barbara looked at Randall and said, "But it's not over yet, is it?"
Randall gently embraced Barbara and whispered, "The Dragon God is protecting us; everything will be alright."
The two nestled together, ignoring the stares of those around them, as if the whole world consisted only of the two of them.
A dull sound broke the silence.
"We brought some gifts for Miss Barbara. Should we put them here? Or..."
Barbara recognized the voice—the orc Carol.
Barbara nodded to Randall, who said to the outside of the tent, "Come in."
Carol hesitated for a moment outside the tent, then said in a low voice, "We just came down from the battlefield and haven't had time to clean up yet..."
Barbara whispered again, "Come in."
Covered in blood, Carol and Aldnan cautiously entered the tent. Under the watchful eyes of the elven female healers, they obediently stopped at the entrance, not daring to go any further.
Carefully placing the honey, goat's milk, and fruit she had brought aside, Carol said to Randall, "The doctor said these will be beneficial to Barbara's recovery."
Barbara struggled to open her eyes and asked Carol, "Why are you here?"
Aldenan said, "We were assigned to clean up and search the lower city, so we just came by."
Carol glanced at Barbara, who was pale, and turned her head away as she did so, saying softly, "Let's wait outside."
After saying that, the orc walked straight out of the tent.
Aldenan shrugged at Randall and followed him out.
Barbara watched the two figures disappear into the distance, gently squeezed Randall's hand, and whispered, "Go, do what you should do."
Randall nodded, stood up, and watched as the elven female healer gathered around Barbara, wiping and disinfecting her body again. He then silently walked to the door and lifted the curtain.
An elven female healer followed Randall to the door, stopped him, and said, "Mr. Quinn, there is a question I must ask you now."
Randall: "Go ahead."
The elven healer said, “Your wife is very weak, especially her heart… Childbirth is a very dangerous thing for her, and I hope you are mentally prepared.”
Randall's heart tightened, and he nodded slightly.
The elven female healer: "In case, I mean in case... your wife's physical condition prevents you from completing the delivery, would you prefer to choose your wife or your child?"
Randall's hands clenched into fists, his teeth clenched tightly, and he froze on the spot.
Those few seconds felt like an eternity.
Finally, Randall managed to utter a sentence with difficulty: "If necessary, I am willing to give up the child."
The elven female healer looked at Randall, her expression slightly moved, but quickly she nodded vigorously, turned around and went back to the tent.
Making this decision felt like all the strength had been drained from Randall.
He leaned against the flagpole, looked up at the blood-red sky, and sighed deeply.
Before he could finish his reflection, a piercing and urgent alarm rang out throughout the entire southern defense line.
The alarm bell rang so urgently that the bell ringer was so panicked that he even forgot to strike it.
Looking at the chaotic Crusader camp around him, Randall took off his cloak and strode towards the tower.
Before leaving, he took one last look at the pristine white tent, where everything he owned was.
Upon reaching the tower on the southern defensive line, Randall saw Carroll and Aldenan.
