Earth, entrance to the Ship Mountain Tunnel.
It is 7.9 kilometers away from the Ship Mountain Refuge Camp.
Clemens slowly parked the car in the open space at the tunnel entrance, opened the car door, got out, looked at the tunnel full of car wreckage, and rubbed his forehead in distress.
Liz and Alice got out of the car together.
Looking at the devastation inside the tunnel, Liz whispered, "When the infection broke out, there must have been an accident inside the tunnel, with a large number of vehicles colliding and causing a fire."
Clemens closed the car door and said helplessly, "It looks like we'll have to walk through here."
Liz: "Fortunately, we're only a few kilometers from our destination; this might be the last leg of the journey."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the screams of the infected echoed from inside the tunnel.
Holding Alice, who was trembling with fear, Clemens said with a wry smile, "This may be the most difficult part of the journey."
The three of them, carrying supplies and supporting each other, carefully entered the tunnel along the far right edge.
Upon entering, a pungent and nauseating smell of burning and smoke hit you.
Clemens took dry towels out of his backpack and tied them to his face and the faces of the other two people.
Continuing forward, the three could not use flashlights or other lighting equipment due to the presence of infected individuals. They could only feel their way along the walls and use the faint light from the wrecked car to determine their direction.
Liz held Alice's hand with one hand and reached forward with the other, suddenly touching a rough and hard foreign object.
Upon closer inspection, a charred corpse was seen with half its body protruding from the car window, slumped limply against the car door.
With her eyes wide open, Liz's legs went weak and she collapsed to the ground. She quickly covered her mouth with her forearm, forcing herself not to make a sound.
Looking around, she could vaguely see charred corpses everywhere in this car graveyard.
Clemens crouched down, helped Liz up, and whispered in her ear, "Turn your face to the wall, don't look there."
The three walked a few dozen meters further, and the screams of the infected became clearer and clearer.
Clemens suddenly stopped and gestured for the others to crouch down.
In the center of the tunnel, a group of infected individuals covered in parasitic tentacles wandered among the ruins filled with wreckage and rubble.
Clemens lowered his voice: "Don't let them see or hear you. Keep your body low, and we can use the cars as cover to go around them."
Carefully navigate around the group of infected individuals and continue forward; there's a bend ahead in the tunnel.
Collapsed walls and scattered vehicles blocked the bend, creating a narrow gap.
Another group of infected people appeared ahead, and the spot where they stood happened to block the gap.
Liz craned her neck to look at the group of infected people and said with difficulty, "The space is too narrow, we can't go around it."
Clemens surveyed the surrounding terrain and signaled the others to follow him, taking cover in a hidden pit.
Picking up a suitably sized stone from the ground, Clemens took a deep breath and said to Liz, "Hopefully, the tricks from the game will come in handy here too."
Clemens hurled the stone with all his might toward the other side of the tunnel.
The rock hit the rock face and bounced off a car, triggering its security alarm.
The loud and piercing alarm immediately drew the attention of all the infected individuals.
In an instant, a shrill scream echoed throughout the entire tunnel.
All the infected ran and gathered near the sirens vehicle, starting to search for the source of the sound and any signs of survivors.
“Kudos to all the game developers in the world.” Clemens breathed a sigh of relief and said to those behind him, “Hurry up and get out of here before they notice us.”
After a close call, the light at the tunnel exit became increasingly clear to everyone.
Clemens laughed and hugged Liz, kissing her forehead as he excitedly said, "We did it!"
Liz made the sign of the cross on her chest and whispered, "God bless."
For the first time, Alice smiled. She skipped and hopped forward, exclaiming, "Daddy, look! That's the exit!"
Clemens watched Alice climb the rubble leading to the exit, his smile still on his face, but the next second, something unexpected happened.
Suddenly, a pile of rubble fell from the top of the tunnel, hitting Alice directly and burying her.
Unable to believe his eyes, Clemens clenched his fists and roared, "No!"
He rushed to the pile of rubble and began digging through the ruins with his bare hands.
Liz quickly came to his side and helped him move the rubble.
Finally, the two found Alice buried under the pile of stones.
Blood was seeping from Alice's forehead, her face was deathly pale, and she was completely lifeless.
Clemens laid Alice flat on the ground and began performing CPR on her while calling out, "No, baby, don't do this to me, don't leave me!"
After much effort, Clemens discovered in despair that Alice was no longer breathing.
Clemens hugged Alice tightly and burst into tears.
Just then, a sudden voice rang out.
"What a pity. I didn't expect that the carefully set trap would only catch one small one."
Goodman, with a pistol at his waist and an M4 assault rifle in his hand, slowly walked in from the exit.
He looked at Clemens and Liz, who were both astonished, and said with a sinister smile, "I knew you would pass by, so I waited here for a long time."
