Chapter 88 The Gamble

The viscount laughed heartily and looked at the priest, saying, "Do you still expect the Father to perform miracles?"

Todd glanced at him, pointed to the rose pot in front of him, and said reverently, "Isn't everything before your eyes enough to prove the supreme power?"

Kennard's smile faded. He glanced at the crucifix in the priest's hand, swallowed hard, and remained silent.

The servants began dealing the cards, first to Todd, then to the two nobles, and so on, round after round. Everyone noticed that the priest had left the cards scattered on the table, not picking them up or tidying them, but instead silently praying.

The Viscount first glanced at his hand with great interest, then glared at Todd who hadn't made a move, tapped the table with his knuckles, and reminded him, "Father, you should play your card first."

"The Father has issued His holy judgment; the outcome of this game is decided."

Hearing the other person's words, Kennard's temper flared up: "The Father has no say in my card game! Pick up your cards, Father!"

Todd glanced at him, stretched out his hands, and turned over his cards one by one on the table.

When people saw the cards, they first chuckled, then fell silent, and finally gasped in shock.

"A perfect nine-pair combo: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J...!"

Seeing the two people opposite him staring in disbelief, their cards falling to the ground, Todd slowed down his speech and began to calculate the stakes bit by bit.

"The first card is 10 Silver Moons, the second is 20 Silver Moons, the third is 40 Silver Moons, the fourth is 80 Silver Moons, the fifth is 160 Silver Moons, the sixth is 320 Silver Moons... the seventeenth Silver Moon, the eighteenth Silver Moon, together each person has a total of [number] Silver Moons. Oh, I almost forgot, if no card is played, it should be tripled, which is [number] Silver Moons. If the two of you are together, it's [number] Silver Moons."

The priest leaned back in his chair, stood up, straightened his clothes, glanced at the silent hall, and said with a smile, "It may take some time to prepare the more than three million silver moons. But I don't think there will be any reneging on the debt. You two are both people of high standing, and besides, there are so many people present today, and Her Majesty the Queen even witnessed this bet in person."

Viscount Kennard slumped in his chair, his face ashen, his body shuddering as the yellow mark between his legs grew larger and larger.

"Oh, right, right!" Todd snatched the chains from the mutated girl's hands from the dazed servant and shouted to the crowd, "Dealing with the mutated creatures is naturally the Church's business. I ask that you, esteemed guests, show leniency and cooperate with the work."

Todd led the girl to the entrance of the hall, then turned back to the silent hall and said, "Please always maintain a devout heart, and remember that our Heavenly Father is always watching over us."
