Finally, and most importantly, the magnification and resolution of this electron microscope were still too low. Even with perfect coordination among the four different species, the magnification was only 10,000x, and the resolution was a mere 20nm. (Electron microscopes in the previous life could achieve a magnification of up to 3 millionx, with a typical resolution of 0.2nm.)
But in any case, this was the limit of what was possible with microscopic instruments in the Middle Ages.
Todd named this supernaturally powered magnetic electron microscope "The Discoverer." All the scholars, craftsmen, and aliens involved in the research and manufacture were rewarded with a large amount of money and allowed to have their names engraved on the microscope's casing.
The day after returning to Twilight Town, Todd signed a Grand Master's decree and posted it in the square. This announced the official establishment of Twilight Town and the commencement of construction on "Twilight Academy," which would include disciplines such as physics, heterodox studies, mathematics, engineering, medicine, and literature. The academy hired scholars from the South, including Kendi, writers Hans and Rachel, as well as numerous students, monks, and craftsmen as lecturers. Funds were also specifically allocated from the Holy Treasury to cover the academy's daily maintenance and staff salaries.
After arranging for Brother Joe to oversee the construction of the Twilight Academy, Todd refocused his attention on his research.
The barrels and boxes brought back from the North Island were opened one by one, and the fossils, soil, stones, and spring water were placed into suitable containers. Rachel was temporarily relieved of her duties as head of the biochemical factory and, along with three other mutants, was transferred to the Knights' headquarters research lab.
After preparing the materials and assembling the team, Todd set his first research focus on the spring water that could "cure" the alien species.
