Meredith looked at Todd and said quietly, "Your intentions are noble, but your efforts may not necessarily yield a good result."
"……I don't understand you."
Meredith rested his chin on his hand and said softly, "The famous historian Mosilis once said something like this: What is a hero? A hero is one who saves people from suffering and calamity. There are two key points in this statement, and I don't know if you understand them?"
Without giving Todd a chance to answer, Meredith continued, "First, the hero saves the common people from calamity; second, the hero must be a human being. People often repeat the first part, but always forget that the second part is the key point."
Todd pondered the woman's words: "Heroes must be human?"
"You can think of humans as a narrow-minded species. They fear everything unknown, even if it saves their lives or eliminates a threat to the world. They will still look at everything with scrutiny or even hostility. No matter how much this thing contributes, humans will still gather together to talk about the disasters it might cause in the future."
Meredith gently preened her feathers, looked at Todd, and said with a smile, "The mutants are the best example. I've seen too many cases like this, where a mutant stands up for the safety of humanity, exposes their identity, and is ultimately betrayed by humans."
Todd looked at Meredith and remained silent.
“Now that you have mastered the ability of soul perception, as long as you stop using the Tyrant's abilities, you can live a peaceful life as a human.” Meredith flipped off the pillar and shook off her feathers. “Todd, remember this: the word ‘hero’ in the real world is sometimes darker and more despairing than it literally means.”
Watching Meredith's retreating figure, Todd suddenly asked, "Why are you telling me all this?"
"I just don't want to see this tragedy happen again..."
