Walking on the blue stone bricks in the magnificent church, Todd was finally able to see the world with his own eyes once again.
A long, narrow central hall was topped with a stone-built barrel vault, high side windows flanked the roof, and the floors and walls were paved with alternating shades of marble. Metal grilles, carved stone screens, choir seats, wooden pulpit carvings, and sculptures of the Holy Spirit filled the space. Todd twirled around, taking in everything around him, utterly awestruck. In his previous life, he had never imagined he would one day be transported to such a medieval world.
A monk in a grey robe walked past the boy, casting a strange look at him.
His gaze pierced through the wide robes, and Todd saw the blood and organs in their chests. As the monks looked at their leader, Huggins, their hearts pounded faster, and their steps quickened.
Nervous? Fearful?
Todd turned his gaze back to the man in front of him and noticed that Huggins had a typical Slavic face: a long head, a high forehead, low cheekbones, thin lips, a slightly protruding chin, a tall and thin build, and a pale complexion. With his neatly combed goatee tied into a small braid, he did indeed give off a fierce and unapproachable impression.
But after spending a few days with him, Todd increasingly felt that there was nothing truly frightening about this man. His appearance was merely a facade; Hudgens was composed, meticulous in his thinking, yet cheerful and passionate about singing. There was only one thing about him that was somewhat intriguing.
From the first time we met, Huggins wore a pair of leather gloves, and he was never seen taking them off during the journey.
Perhaps there was a wound on her hand, or perhaps it was just a habit...
After spending more than an hour exploring the surroundings, Todd gradually learned about the place and era he lived in through the men's explanations.
In terms of the level of civilization development, the world he traveled to was similar in technology and culture to medieval Europe in the late 12th and early 13th centuries of his previous life.
Geographically, based on the work of navigators and cartographers, the world is divided into one continent and several islands. The northernmost part of the continent is covered by ice and snow year-round, while the rest of the land is divided into several terrain regions by three horizontal and two vertical mountain ranges and two large and three small lakes. These include the archipelago region in the northwest, the plains in the central and western regions and the southwest, the highlands and snowfields in the northeast, the desert regions in the central and eastern regions, and the grasslands in the southeast.
In terms of national distribution and religious regions, the central and western regions consist of the Papal States and secular states, both adhering to the Church of God. Todd is currently at the San Sidlow Monastery, located near the Silver Ring Kingdom in the western coastal region.
Speaking of St. Sidlow Monastery, this nearly century-old building is a landmark of the Moon Creek Plain. The Silver Ring Kingdom built the monastery's prototype in 1031 AD to commemorate the ascetic monk Sidlow. Initially, it was merely a small monastic community with only three buildings: a rites hall, a shrine, and a rest area. After nearly a century of renovations and expansions, St. Sidlow Monastery has grown into a renowned religious site in the southwestern kingdoms.
This place is home to hundreds of monks who adhere to a hermit-like monasticism, yearning for inner peace and devotion.
This is what Huggins said to him.
But as the tour route to the monastery's crypt went deeper and deeper, Todd became increasingly skeptical of this claim.
A dark and long passageway, flickering and eerie torches, and a damp and murky floor.
If one had not just passed through that bright and sacred place, no one would imagine that this passageway, which resembles an underground catacombs, was built right beneath the monastery.
The two reached the end of the passageway, where a large door gleaming with metallic luster appeared before them.
These four sentences are engraved on the door.
"As if it were inside;"
"As if they were abroad;"
"As if it were above;"
"As he is below."
Who came up with these four hilarious sentences?!
Filled with questions, Todd followed the tall man into an underground chapel.
The statue of the Father stands tall at the head of the underground sanctuary. Although its appearance is no different from that in the church, the dim firelight always gives the boy a strange feeling.
Master Myris stood on the high pulpit, his attire appearing much more formal than before. He wore a distinctive flared-sleeve robe with an inverted triangular collar, and his robes and hat brim were decorated with several raised lines, sewn together with gold and silver thread.
Below him were several long benches, where three men and one woman sat.
The moment Todd walked into the lobby, everyone's eyes were on him.
The somewhat nervous boy, unsure of what to do, was given a push from behind. Turning around, he saw Huggins' large face beaming with an encouraging and approving smile.
With a heavy heart and under everyone's gaze, Todd walked up to Master Myris. Looking at the old man's warm smile, he had a feeling that he had stumbled into a pyramid scheme.
"Today, we gather here to witness the addition of a new member."
"This child, born into a farming family and without any church education, has unlocked the 'box of proverbs'..."
Some people in the audience made surprised noises.
Master Myris, with a touch of wicked amusement, observed the audience's expressions. After the atmosphere calmed down somewhat, he casually dropped an even bigger bombshell: "He's come into contact with the 'Sutherland Relics'..."
"Oh my god!"
"What?!"
