Chapter 282 Prelude to the Escape

Todd shook his head slightly: "I don't think so. If Conchierber wanted to kill me, he would have a hundred ways to do it. There's no need for him to choose a method that is both difficult and risky."

Fried nodded: "Then I'm all set on my end. Please tell me what to do?"

"On the day of the celebration, the royal family will arrange a grand gladiatorial contest in the 'Red Circle.' Most of the guards will be transferred to the ground to maintain order and handle reception. That will be the best time for you to make your move."

Todd drew a simple sketch on the ground with a stone: "On the southernmost part of the second basement level, there's a junkyard with a hidden sewer. The fence is old and loose. From there, you can directly enter the forest outside the city. Deirdre's contact will be waiting for you there."

"But there is one thing you must pay attention to, and that is time. From the time the guests enter until the end of the gladiatorial combat, there are at most two hours. You must get to the outskirts of the city as soon as possible to meet the contact person."

Fried nodded to show he understood, then suddenly realized something and shouted, "No! What about you?!"

Seeing the jailer drawn by the sound, Todd quickly gestured for the old soldier to be quiet.

Waiting for the guards to look away again, Todd whispered, "Don't worry about me, I have my own way of escaping from here."

"If the king finds out we've all escaped, he'll unleash all his fury on you!"

Only after Todd's repeated assurances did Fried give up asking further questions.

“I would like to speak with the chieftain alone for a while,” the shaman Minnie suddenly said.

Fried glanced at the old woman, sighed, and got up.

Minnie remained silent, staring at Todd for a long time until he shifted uncomfortably.

How did Boyle die?

Upon hearing this, Todd was startled, but a look of confusion appeared on his face: "What did you say?"

The old woman closed her eyes, her tone so calm that Todd couldn't believe it: "I've been taking care of that child since he was born. I know his pronunciation and his habits perfectly well. So, there's no need to hide anything from me anymore."

Since the matter was of great importance, Todd decided to play dumb: "I don't know what you're talking about..."

Minnie opened her eyes, looked at Todd, and shook her head: "Still won't admit it? Listen carefully, that kid's third tooth from the back on the lower right side is missing because he fell off his horse as a child. Why don't you open your mouth and let me see your teeth?"

Cold sweat streamed down Todd's face.

"Body shaping" can alter fatty connective tissue and epidermal tissue, but it cannot change bone structure. Besides, Todd never even considered the possibility of missing teeth.

Seeing the other person's pale face, Minnie smiled and said, "Speechless now? Now tell me, how did Boyle die?"

Todd took a deep breath and recounted the night he rescued Boyle in detail.

After listening to the story, Minnie showed no emotion and did not inquire about the other person's identity. She simply placed her hand on Todd's forehead and calmly said, "As I said before, you have a unique and kind soul, which is why I trust you."

As he walked out of the cell, Todd glanced back at the old shaman. He had too many questions to ask, but now was clearly not the time; he could only wait until he escaped.

——————————————

On the main road in the eastern part of the Kingdom of Ulster, a cavalry regiment of five hundred men, carrying the banner of the Kingdom of Connaught, escorted an exquisitely decorated carriage slowly westward.

A charming and melodious voice came from inside the carriage: "How far are we from Arma City?"

The cavalry commander, who had answered this question countless times, still perked up upon hearing this voice and respectfully replied, "It's still two days' journey, Your Majesty."

A low sigh came from inside the carriage: "Two more days?"

The commander thought for a moment and cautiously suggested, "Your Majesty, if you just want to watch gladiatorial combat, the kingdom has its own arena. There is no need to come all this way here."

A burst of laughter came from the carriage, as clear and melodious as spring water falling onto a jade plate, each drop striking a chord in everyone's hearts: "Watch your words. I am now the head of the Connaught Mission, bearing heavy responsibilities... Pfft... Hehe..."

The commander and his adjutant exchanged a glance and shook their heads helplessly.
