Chapter 123 The Battle of Muxi (Part 3)

5. Order other alien species to enter standby mode and provide support at any time.

By the time all deployments within Muxi Town were completed, it was already 7 PM. A dozen minutes later, a reconnaissance alien atop the lighthouse lit the brazier on the top floor of the tower.

Pirates and barbarians have arrived.

————————————————

The barbarian warrior Korwin stepped onto the soft sand, looked at the town of Twilight shrouded in darkness, and drew his wooden shield from his back and his hand axe from his waist.

The young pirate Lev beside him drew his short sword, swallowed hard, and whispered, "There's no light in the town. Perhaps everyone has fled?"

No one answered him.

The barbarian and pirate leaders loudly commanded their men to drag the seven warships ashore and begin counting the remaining people.

Three warships, 29 pirates, and 75 barbarians sank to the bottom of the sea forever. Before the war even began, the pirates and barbarians had already lost one-fifth of their manpower.

Among the remaining people, especially those who had fallen into the water, their mental state was extremely unstable. The icy cold water in early March, coupled with the shock they had experienced, caused them to hysterically mutter strange words repeatedly to their surroundings.

"Sea monster! I saw a sea monster!"

"They swam up from the depths of the ocean and pierced the hull with their sharp claws!"

"They have cheeks on their faces! Their hands and feet don't look human at all, with webbed feet like a frog's!"

"I saw a sea monster swimming on the surface for more than three minutes! It never surfaced to breathe!"

The leaders loudly rebuked these remarks, ordered their men to gag the men with rags, and told the warriors that they were nothing more than a group of enemies with chisels. As for who to believe, the fear on the men's faces spoke volumes.

Once the ships were ready, the army of pirates and barbarians, carrying the necessary supplies, set off towards the town.

On the main road leading to the town, which runs close to the coast, a huge stone cross caught the attention of the invaders.

The following words were written on the cross in both Norse and Latin:

"The Kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the Gospel! Fear the Lord, and you will gain wealth and eternal life; hate the Son, and you will be reduced to dust by the holy thunder!"

Pirates and barbarians gathered around the cross, exchanging bewildered glances. Some suggested destroying the cross to drive away these false gods; others cautioned that every deity should be respected and advised bypassing the cross to enter the town.

Finally, an enraged barbarian warrior lost his patience, raised his battle axe, and smashed the cross into a pile of ruins.

Everyone waited for a while, but nothing happened.

Just as people relaxed and began to loudly laugh at this low-class trick, a faint hissing sound of burning rose from the ruins of the cross.

Seconds later, accompanied by a deafening explosion, a crimson "cloud of fire" rose from the western coast. A shockwave, like a landslide, whipped up dust and waves that spread into the ocean depths. Countless pieces of metal, rivets, and shards of glass were scattered in all directions, and screams and cries could be clearly heard even several kilometers away.
