Chapter 443 Where am I?

Barbara was struck dumb by Wayne's words.

Her lips trembled as she said in disbelief, "You mean... I'll have to live like this for the rest of my life?!"

Wayne confirmed again, "I have repeatedly tested your physiological samples, and it is no longer possible to achieve reverse species change in you."

"You bastard! I'm going to kill you!"

Blinded by rage, Barbara went berserk again, spreading her arms wide and charging at Wayne without any hesitation.

Fortunately, Aldenan reacted quickly, grabbing her and shouting, "Calm down!"

Wayne looked at the distraught Barbara and asked curiously, "During your recovery period, I tested your physical functions. Whether it's metabolism or resistance to disease and aging, your body is far superior to that of humans. Moreover, unlike the orcs and werewolves around you, your body can use more powerful superpowers, and your lifespan will be greatly extended. This should be a great thing for you, so why can't you accept it?"

Barbara roared, "How can I possibly return to the stage looking like this?! How can I possibly return to the public eye?! If I can't perform, I can't sing, it would be better to just kill me!"

"You place meaningless social entertainment above the pursuit of power and the evolution of the species?" Wayne exclaimed in astonishment. "What's wrong with your brain? Can't you even perform the most basic weighing and comparison on your own?"

While listening to Wayne's sarcastic remarks, Aldenan felt a chill run down his spine and pulled Barbara along. He then turned his gaze to the bewildered Carol behind him, signaling for him to come and help him.

Carol, as if waking from a dream, quickly went forward and hugged the furious Barbara.

With his hands free, Aldenan walked up to Barbara and shouted, "Listen to me! You want to see Randall again, don't you?!"

Barbara was taken aback, then nodded subconsciously.

Aldnan continued, "I ask you, if you were dead, merely a corpse, even if Randall were still alive, do you think you would have a chance to reunite with him?"

Aldenan's words gradually calmed Barbara down.

“Only by living can a person accomplish what they want to do; once dead, everything is gone!” Aldenan slowed his speech and said earnestly, “So, Mr. Dunlop saved you, although the result may not be ideal, but at least he gave you hope.”

To the three's surprise, Wayne suddenly spoke up: "I can't help you restore your human form, but if it's just about leaving Twilight City, I might be able to help you."

Carroll blinked, wondering if he had misheard, and asked Wayne again, "You're letting us leave?"

“Your legs are your own, and I never intended to imprison you. I kept you here only for experimental purposes. And the anti-magic rings around your necks were simply to prevent you from disturbing me.” Wayne’s face showed a rare look of weariness. “There are many voices within the kingdom opposing me. Leaving now might be the best choice for you.”

Seeing the three people standing there in a daze, Wayne waved his hand and said, "You guys go out, let me have some peace and quiet."

————————————

Thick fog blanketed the fields, and the cawing of crows echoed from afar.

Randall wandered aimlessly through the wilderness, his body feeling as if it were sinking into mud, his steps growing heavier and heavier. He looked around at his surroundings, a growing sense of familiarity washing over him.

As he walked, the outline of an old, crooked tree gradually emerged from the thick fog.

The moment Randall saw the tree, he began to tremble uncontrollably. He staggered backward, shouting, "No! No!"

Randall, who had only run a few steps after turning around, suddenly stopped. He found that the tree had reappeared in front of him, like a leech.

The trees drew closer, and the body of a woman who had hanged herself swayed incessantly on the crooked old tree. This scene was like a nightmare he could never escape, deeply impacting Randall's soul.

Randall's knees trembled, and he knelt on the ground, burying his head deep in his chest and sobbing softly, "Mother, it's my fault, it's my fault!"

The corpse hanging from the tree suddenly opened its eyes and let out a piercing scream: "Monster! Why did I give birth to a monster like you?!"

Randall, shirtless, suddenly opened his eyes and sat up from the wooden bed. He was drenched in sweat, panting heavily, his fingers clenched tightly together, and he didn't utter a word.

After a long silence, Randall finally regained some strength. He looked around at the furniture and decorations that clearly reflected the atmosphere of northern civilization and said softly, "It's that dream again..."

There was a knock at the door. Randall composed himself and said, "Come in."

An elderly male shaman with a kind face, accompanied by two apprentices, entered Randall's room and looked at him, saying, "Mr. Quincy, how is your recovery going?"

Randall struck a pose as if he was alright, and said with a smile, "Look, it's all over now, all the wounds have healed."

The old shaman said with relief, "When you first arrived here, you were unconscious for seven whole days. Everyone was worried about whether you could make it through, but thankfully your vitality is unexpectedly strong..."

Randall braced his arms on the bed and struggled to stand up, but having lost his dragon bones, his limbs were weak and he was unsteady even when he was standing.
