Todd looked at Rachel's cheerful appearance and smiled without saying a word.
The latter glanced at the former and said nonchalantly, "Are you done meditating?"
Todd nodded.
"Did that crow woman tell you about the declaration of war?"
Todd nodded again.
"Let me guess, you must have returned to Twilight City from the Land of Shadows and are preparing for the upcoming war."
Todd nodded again.
Rachel rolled her eyes at Todd: "Can't you say anything other than nod?"
Todd looked at Rachel's face, hesitated for a few seconds, and then suddenly blurted out a sentence.
Let's have a baby.
puff!
A mouthful of beer sprayed out of Rachel's mouth, and the box of braised food in her hand was knocked to the ground.
Having known this woman for so long, this was the first time Todd had ever seen such a 'wonderful' expression on Rachel's face.
Unexpected, panicked, confused... and some things Todd couldn't understand.
"Why are you suddenly saying something like that out of the blue?" Rachel wiped the wine stains off her clothes and straightened them. "You specifically dragged me in here just to talk about this?!"
Todd opened a can of beer, tilted his head back and took a big gulp, and said in a low voice, "You're smart enough to figure out the reason."
Rachel placed the can on the bench, looked at Todd's profile, and sighed: "Is it because of the tyrant?"
Todd took another sip of beer, staring at the fountain in the center of the garden without saying a word.
Rachel sighed softly: "You've made your decision?"
"Do you want to hear the truth or a lie... The lie is that I have no regrets, the truth is that I'm starting to hesitate." Todd leaned back on the bench and laughed self-deprecatingly, "After being human for decades, suddenly having to live under a different identity, I'm a little lost."
Rachel gazed at Todd's profile and said quietly, "Did someone say something to you?"
Todd turned to look at the woman and said helplessly, "Ratchet, sometimes your intelligence terrifies me."
“Okay, let’s put that aside for now and talk about the child first.” Rachel gently held Todd’s hand. “I understand what you’re thinking, but I may not be able to fulfill your wish.”
Todd asked curiously, "Why?"
A look of sadness crossed Rachel's face. She covered her lower abdomen with one hand and shook her head, saying, "I have some health problems."
Todd frowned and straightened up: "You mean you're infertile?"
Rachel hesitated for a moment, then said, “That’s not wrong, but the actual situation is probably more complicated. Due to my physical limitations, although I have always hoped to see your offspring, I have twice brought in a third person. Don’t you remember? The first time it was Karin, and the second time it was Deirdre.”
Todd understood somewhat: "You mean, because you can't get pregnant, that's why you brought Karin and Deirdre to be with me..."
Rachel's smile was somewhat forced: "Todd, I'm not a magnanimous woman, and I don't want to see the man I love in front of me with other women..."
Feeling guilty, Todd hugged Rachel, gently kissed her forehead, and whispered, "You didn't have to do that."
Rachel rested her chin on Todd's shoulder and said softly, "I just don't want my sake to cause any regrets in your life..."
Todmore stroked Rachel's hair and said with a smile, "Let's talk about the children later. I want to talk to you about the future of the kingdom... um... strange..."
Rachel looked up at Todd, puzzled. "What's wrong?"
Todd touched the woman's head, feeling the texture of his fingertips, and said with a smile, "I never noticed before that you have a small scar on your head."
Rachel casually brushed Todd's hand away, saying nonchalantly, "It's just a scar from being naughty as a child. You were just talking about the future of the kingdom..."
Todd quickly put the scar out of his mind and began discussing some things about Twilight City with Rachel.
