"Your Holiness, we have defeated the enemy!"
Todd breathed a sigh of relief as he watched the militia members raise their weapons and cheer loudly.
Compared to other buildings in Muxi Town, when the commercial street was planned and built, a small portion of the old shops and houses had not yet been renovated. These clustered wooden houses, due to the narrow streets, wide roofs, and high density, formed an excellent ambush location.
Of course, Walton's superb crossbow skills, combined with his Eagle Eye ability, were also an indispensable factor in the success of this ambush.
Todd touched the bridge of his nose, thinking to himself: Perhaps in this battle, the militia and the terrain advantage alone can hold off the pirates and barbarians, and Rachel's superpowered squad may not even need to appear...
A reconnaissance mutant hurried up to him and reported, "Commander-in-Chief, the enemy has begun their operation!"
Todd asked in a hurry.
"The enemy divided the remaining troops into several small squads and began to bypass the area."
"Abandon the attack and go around?"
Todd pondered for a moment, then a flash of inspiration struck him, and he suddenly understood the enemy's intentions.
"Alfonso! Notify all militia members to evacuate immediately! Retreat to the second line of defense!"
Soon, the militia, led by Todd and Alfonso, received their orders and swiftly withdrew from the commercial street, heading towards the second line of defense in Muxi Town—the guard camp. Just as they entered the camp, plumes of black smoke appeared in the direction of the commercial street. The enemy had used fire to turn their hiding place into a blaze.
Todd wiped the sweat from his brow and inwardly breathed a sigh of relief.
However, after counting the number of people, the militia commander suddenly shouted, "Commander-in-Chief, four people still haven't returned!"
"What?!"
Todd turned his head in surprise.
"It was a group of young men from town. I heard that they wanted to steal some spoils from the enemy's corpses to boast about their achievements, so they sneaked back..."
"Nonsense! A bunch of bastards! How dare they cause trouble at this crucial moment!" Todd waved his arms angrily, swearing for once.
Knight Alfonso picked up his helmet, put it back on, and strode toward the main gate of the camp: "I'm going to find them."
Todd shouted several times, but the knight eventually disappeared through the door, followed by his squires, Leslie, Walton, and Adelina.
Rachel walked over to Todd, looked at the latter's solemn expression, and whispered, "He's going to his death."
"I know……"
The woman then asked, "Should we send some people to help him?"
Todd looked up at the thickening black smoke in the distance, then back at the people in the camp, gritting his teeth: "No, we have more important things to do... strengthen the camp's defenses, get the mutant squads ready, there's going to be a tough battle..."

Alfonso braced his greatsword with both hands to block a long axe's slash. He pushed upwards with force, kicked off the ground, lunged forward, and crashed into his enemy's arms. He struck the enemy's abdomen with the hilt of his sword, forcing him to his knees. Then, he brought his greatsword down with force, decapitating the enemy.
He felt a chill on his arm and looked down to see an arrow embedded in his gauntlet. Fortunately, it hadn't been very strong, only grazing his skin. He raised his sword again, about to take a step forward and charge at the last of the three enemies, when a crossbow bolt ended the pirate archer's life.
Walton, carrying a crossbow and sporting a smug smile, stepped out from the shadows of the building.
As Leslie walked past him, she glanced at him and said sarcastically, "Not bad, not bad. You're really good at taking sneak attacks."
As they passed the two playfully fighting, Adelina was the last to step out, looking at the knight with a worried expression.
Alfonso was stunned.
A moment later, he shouted to his entourage, "Back to camp!"
No one moved an inch.
He raised his voice even higher: "I said, go back!"
Still no one has moved.
Alfonso closed his eyes and turned away helplessly.
The commercial street had turned into a sea of fire, with raging flames engulfing the fragile wooden buildings and the constant, piercing sounds of collapse filling the air.
Leslie took off her shirt and, using her "Flame Breath" ability, walked at the front, clearing the road.
Walton hopped around the falling sparks, shouting urgently, "We have to find those guys!"
Adelina watched the mice scurrying about on the ground, then crouched down and picked one up. She then pointed in a direction and said to the others, "Go that way."
Guided by the woman, the squad arrived at the cellar of a tavern and successfully located the four deserters. However, the journey out was far more arduous than the journey in; a fire had engulfed the entire street. Under the scorching heat, Alfonso was even forced to remove his armor. Finally, the group used well water from the back of the courtyard to soak the burlap piled in the tavern's cellar, draped it over themselves, and used their weapons to break through the burning walls, carving a path to survival in this infernal hell.
However, the eight survivors encountered a group of pirates hurrying along just outside the commercial street.
The two groups met unexpectedly, each drew their weapons, and stood facing each other.
Walton cocked the crossbow and pulled Adelina behind him.
