Chapter 644 World Experiment

After much deliberation, Todd's thoughts became increasingly chaotic.

The War of the Chosen Ones that Jing Su spoke of was like a fog obscuring the truth, concealing the reality behind it.

Shaking his head vigorously, Todd said to Huggins, "The investigation into the abilities of the marine races can continue, but we must not have any conflicts with them."

Huggins opened his mouth at first, but in the end he gave up trying to persuade him. He lowered his head and said, "I will obey His Majesty's will."

Watching Hudgens leave the room, Todd closed his eyes, entered his soul space, and went straight to Rachel.

Wearing glasses and casual clothes, Rachel seemed quite surprised by Todd's summons.

"Is it urgent?"

Todd glanced at Rachel's attire and asked, "Are you at the Twilight Grand Library?"

"Yes."

"Are they still researching beacon towers and time travel?"

“Yes, I believe I have some leads.” Rachel took off her glasses. “Some information becomes more interesting the more you delve into it.”

Todd waved over a freezer, took out a can of Coke, and gulped it down. "That's what I wanted to talk to you about."

Rachel rummaged through the freezer, found a tub of ice cream, and started eating it by herself.

Did you know? This kind of food is already being sold in the city.

Todd didn't react for a moment: "What?"

Rachel shook the ice cream in her hand: "Some mutants opened a shop in the city. Using their abilities to accelerate aging, freezing, and solidification, they processed eggs, milk, and sugar to create similar products. However, they taste very fishy and are very hard to eat."

Todd looked somewhat amused and exasperated: "Ratchet, can we put food aside and talk about something more important?"

“Food has always been the most important thing,” Rachel said with a smile. “It represents the most primal and purest desire of all living beings.”

Seeing Todd's sullen face, Rachel put down her spoon: "I'm not teasing you anymore."

Todd said, "You remember everything about the War of the Chosen Ones, right?"

"Yes, it was a competition led by the Crystal Host, and the winner could obtain the power of the gods."

"Have you thought about the significance of this competition?"

"significance?"

After thinking for a moment, Todd said, "What exactly is the purpose of Crystal's going to such lengths?"

"To choose a god?"

"The gods chosen through this competition—competing for territory, gaining power, and seizing followers—are nothing more than victors who worship force, are ambitious, and sway people. Can such people truly achieve Crystal's so-called 'racial selection' goal?"

Rachel looked a little confused: "I'm having trouble keeping up with your train of thought."

Todd sighed and said slowly, "Let me go through my thoughts from the beginning."

“In this world, Jing Su selects some individuals with extraordinary abilities and gives them enlightenment. Jing Su tells these people that they can become gods of this world and gain infinite power by expanding their territory, becoming the strongest, and acquiring followers.”

"But these three paths to victory, you can think about it, they actually have a commonality."

Rachel frowned and asked, "What commonality?"

"Expanding territory requires initiating wars between nations as a ruler; becoming the strongest requires slaughtering other powerful beings to ensure one's position at the pinnacle of power; and seizing believers will provoke religious conflict and trigger clashes between believers."

Rachel understood somewhat: "These three paths to victory are actually fraught with fighting and slaughter. In other words, to win, you must eliminate other opponents both physically and mentally."

Todd nodded and said, "Crystal once told me that the purpose of the War of the Chosen Ones is to select the best races, eliminate the backward races, and keep the superior races. But according to Scáthach's historical records, many eras in this world ended in destruction, with all civilizations reduced to nothing and no living beings remaining."

"What is the significance of this kind of grand finale for Crystal Nest? It's like conducting one failed experiment after another without learning from the mistakes, and continuing to go further and further down the wrong old path."

Rachel said, "You're right. Every attempt by Crystal Star ends with the end of the world, and everything returns to the beginning. If his goal is racial selection, to create a perfect race, then these repeated failed attempts are indeed meaningless."

Todd pondered, "So, I've decided to look at the War of the Chosen from a different perspective. What if everything Crystal Star has done is ultimately aimed at encouraging war between races?"

Rachel was startled: "You mean, Crystal Star wants to see war, wants to see genocide?"

Todd continued, "The end of the world and the extinction of races are inevitable outcomes for Crystal Star. What he cares about is not the outcome, but the things that arise during the process."

Rachel asked, "I don't understand your point of view. What value is there in destroying everything you've created with your own hands?"

Todd understood Rachel's thoughts. The other party was still analyzing the War of the Chosen from the perspective of an insider, but to truly understand the value behind this war, one must broaden one's perspective to that of Crystal Constellation.

Todd explained, “Ratchel, let me give you an example. When I was in the research institute, I often conducted sample reference experiments.”

"Let me explain what a sample reference experiment is. In a petri dish, we observe the interactions between different microorganisms, culture medium, stress hormones, and catalysts to record and analyze the characteristics of these constants. By adding variables at multiple levels, we can look for possible variations and evolutionary pathways in the experimental subjects."
