Gordon then realized what was happening: "Yes! Prince Mathilde is not a good choice, but Prince Sinclair is kind, benevolent, and diligent in his duties. How can you deny his right to succession as Lord of Twilight City?!"
Todd raised an eyebrow: "In my opinion, His Highness Sinclair seems to be less of a good person than His Highness Mathilde..."
"What did you say?!"
Todd's words caused a huge uproar in the hall. Gordon was the first to roar, "Lord of Twilight, please explain yourself! Even if you are of noble status, you cannot arbitrarily slander the heir of Holy Guard City!"
Todd glanced around at the angry faces of the people around him and exchanged a look with Cumberland.
The latter waved his hand, and a small squad of knights immediately brought over several baskets of documents and books.
“If Mathilde’s crimes were merely due to greed, then Sinclair’s actions bordered on brutality.” Todd pointed to the hundreds of times more pages at his feet than before, saying, “Because the latter was involved in human trafficking, and selling citizens of Saint Guard City!”
Screams and roars nearly ripped the roof off as people questioned Todd, each accusing him of spreading alarmist rumors.
There was only one exception. Cardinal Jacob looked at the stack of documents on the ground, which was half a meter high, and seemed to remember something. His face turned deathly pale.
Todd had Earl Gordon summon several royal clerks and select a few documents from them to read aloud.
From the names of refugee family members to the escape routes arranged by the refugee organizations, then to the ship's logs and memos, to the sales records of the slave market, and finally to how the proceeds were laundered and ended up in Sinclair's pocket, these documents described even the appearance and physique of each slave in meticulous detail.
The voices of doubt gradually subsided, and everyone wore an expression of utter astonishment.
Gordon stared at the book in his hands, tears streaming down his face. He slowly closed his eyes, letting the book fall to the ground, muttering, "Prince Sinclair... how could this happen? How could this happen?!"
Seeing this scene before him, Jacob knew that things were gradually developing in the worst possible direction, and with no other choice, he had to take a gamble.
“These documents can be forged! They’re not real!” Jacob waved his arms and shouted excitedly, “The Kingdom of Muxi must have been preparing for this day for a long time, just to confuse everyone! Don’t believe him!”
Todd looked at the jumping and shouting cardinal with a mocking gaze, and snapped his fingers at Cumberland again.
The latter then had the knights' adjutant bring up two more people.
A man and a child, clearly father and son.
Gordon looked at the two men and suddenly exclaimed, "Pira! What are you doing here?!"
Seeing the puzzled looks on the faces of those around him, Gordon quickly said, "This man is the gardener on my estate, and that child is his son, but they should have both fled to the Duchy of Fenton... And where is your wife Vera?"
“My master!” Pilar knelt down and hugged Gordon’s legs, crying as he recounted his experiences over the past six months.
