Watching Randall kill the last enemy in front of him, Karin wiped the blood off the dagger from the warden's body, frowned, and said, "A waste of time."
Aldnan walked past Morton Chris's body and spat at it: "I thought he was a tough guy."
Pedro glanced around and whispered, "This warden was a fearsome figure in the capital, but he died like this..."
Randall sheathed his sword and shield: "Let's get going as quickly as possible."
The group finally arrived at the third basement level of the prison.
Compared to the previous two floors, this floor was eerily quiet.
The only sounds that echoed in my ears were the agonizing cries of humans and the clattering of shackles, the only sound of water droplets hitting the stone slabs.
Pedro lit a torch and walked at the head of the group: "These are the church's 'political prisoners,' including the most wicked apostates, the fallen who worship heretics, and those who have violated the doctrine. No one wants to set foot here, not even the jailers."
Aldenan covered his nose with a cloth and mumbled, "There's a putrid smell here."
Pedro said softly, "I've said it before, no one wants to set foot here, including those who collect corpses."
Randall asked, "Where is Professor Yevni's cell?"
“Follow the corridor, turn left at the first intersection, turn right at the second, and the room at the end is his.”
Randall quickened his pace: "Hopefully, it's not too late."
When the group finally arrived at their destination after traversing a long corridor, the sight of what lay in the dimly lit prison cell sent a chill down their spines.
That can no longer be considered a human being.
His mangled limbs had been broken, his skin below the neck had been peeled off, and his entire body was covered in marks from rats gnawing at him.
Barbara glanced at him, then forced herself to turn back: "Is this the person we're looking for?"
Pedro was deathly pale: "God, what have they done to you?!"
Aldenan slumped down, plopped on the ground, and said dejectedly, "After all that work, all we found was a dead man?"
Carol asked Pedro, "Can you confirm that this guy on the ground is the Yevni we're looking for?"
Suppressing his nausea, Pedro leaned closer and, after a careful examination, said, "Yes, I'm sure this person is Yevni."
Bulville slammed his giant axe into the floor, growling angrily, "We've failed! We've let the Dragon God down! I was supposed to deliver a perfect victory for my god! But I've messed it up..."
The lizardman stared at the 'person' on the floor and, possessing the ability to sense heat, suddenly said, "I can feel a faint warmth still within him; he's still alive."
Randall shuddered, immediately lay down on the ground, waved away the rats on the ground, and pressed his ear to the other's chest.
“Kellogg is right, Yevni still has a heartbeat, but it is very weak.”
Seeing the look Randall gave him, Kellogg shook his head: "I know what you're thinking, but it's impossible. This person is not far from death, and any treatment will be in vain."
Randall asked in a heavy tone, "So, we can't save him?"
Kellogg nodded.
Randall took the dragon badge that Todd had given him before he left from his chest, quietly placed it on Yevni's chest, and said, "If we cannot save his life, at least we can redeem his soul."
The moment the dragon emblem touched Yevni, Randall's soul was instantly pulled into heaven.
A giant dragon coils among the magnificent and majestic mountains.
A middle-aged man with a mustache, wearing an academic professor's robe, stared at the giant dragon, his jaw dropping in astonishment.
"You are Yevni, the alchemy professor at the Royal Academy of Tero?"
A deafening roar erupted from the dragon's mouth, startling Yevni so much that he lay prone on the ground.
Todd stretched his dragon head out from the clouds and looked down at the mortals below: "Do not panic, do not be afraid. The candle of your life has been extinguished, but the light of your soul has entered heaven."
“Heaven?” Yevni was clearly still a little confused: “I’ve heard people mention that word before.”
Todd looked at Randall: "Are there any other survivors besides him?"
Randall shook his head helplessly.
"No! No! There are others alive!" Yevni cried out suddenly upon hearing Todd's question. "Great God! Besides me, there are others who need help!"
"who?"
Yevni knelt down, burying his head deeply in the direction of the dragon: "Children! All of our children!"
Randall asked in confusion, "Child?"
"In the church's crackdown on heretics, in addition to scholars and nobles convicted of apostasy, many underage children were also imprisoned," Yevni said excitedly. "Most of them came from the families of those arrested; although they were not the main culprits, they were still implicated!"
Randall asked urgently, "Where are the children?"
"They've all been imprisoned in the confessional behind the Great Cathedral!" Yevni's voice trembled. "If you can rescue them, I'm willing to offer my knowledge, my soul, and everything I have for this great deity!"
Randall turned to Todd and knelt on one knee: "Your Majesty, please give the order so we can rescue those children!"
Todd looked at Randall, remained silent for a moment, and then said, "It won't be long before the city of Tyro is breached, and those children will be rescued."
Randall looked up and said urgently, "When the city falls, those crazed church thugs will do anything. No one can guarantee the safety of those children!"
Todd was silent for a moment, then finally said, "Go, I grant your request to rescue the children. But remember, always keep the Soul Badge I gave you safe."
Randall nodded vigorously, and his soul was instantly sent out of the space.
When Randall opened his eyes, he found that everyone around him was looking at him.
Kellogg said, "Yevni is dead."
Looking at the lifeless body on the ground, Randall stood up: "His soul has been accepted by heaven."
Upon hearing this, the minotaurs and lizardmen slowly closed their eyes and bowed their heads reverently toward the dragon emblem.
Randall hung the badge back around his neck and said to everyone, "Gentlemen, let's leave here. The Holy King has given us a new mission."
