Chapter 10: All for Eating Meat and Being Lazy

Todd was a little confused: "You... what did you say?"

Huggins patted his stomach and then made a eating gesture with his hand: "Didn't you tell Edgar yesterday that there was a way to make sure we could eat meat every day?"

The big mouth hidden behind the man chimed in, "You even said you could save us from having to work in the fields!"

After slapping Edgar on the back of the head, Huggins made the sign of the cross: "Father above, forgive our sins..."

The apprentice was a little confused by the other person's deeper meaning: "But Master Myris said..."

The man reached out to stop Todd from speaking and said softly, "Master Myris is a servant of the Father, and his lifelong pursuit is to devote himself to spiritual practice, but I am not a monk."

“Me neither,” Big Mouth chimed in.

"Forehead."

Todd paused for a moment.

Slapping his forehead, the apprentice exclaimed in realization, "So, I never intended to become a monk after all?!"

Huggins looked him up and down, then shook his head to express his disagreement: "I don't think so. It looks like you put this outfit on willingly."

Todd stared at the two men opposite him in their coarse linen clothes, then at his own monk's attire, and was completely dumbfounded.

That day, he just grabbed the clothes and put them on without thinking about anything else!

Huggins put his arm around Todd's neck and changed the subject, beginning to comfort him: "Actually, being a monk isn't so bad. You don't have to wander around for a living, and you don't have to worry about being homeless. Just like Edgar and me, one of us is a servant to the monks, and the other is a messenger for the monastery. Who knows, we might die in a foreign land one day, with no one to even collect our bodies..."

Todd sensed a hidden meaning in the other person's words; he was being reminded of past favors and the kindness the other person had shown him.

Huggins leaned closer and extended his right hand to the apprentice: "Let's work together. You tell me how to do it, and I'll find people to do it. How about it?"

He tried to squeeze his head between the two, but couldn't find a gap. Edgar, standing to the side, raised his hand and shouted, "Me too! Me too!"

His mind raced, Todd weighed the pros and cons, and finally gritted his teeth, stamped his foot, and grabbed Huggins' hand tightly: "Let's do it!"

——————————————————

Upon entering the monk's room, they saw the chemical equations Todd had completed the night before and the half-finished practical design, even though neither of them could read. But compared to Edgar's mere observation, Huggins could discern something far more meaningful.

The language I've never seen before.

Complex and difficult formulas.

Exquisite equipment.

In addition, there's the fact that he was able to escape unscathed after coming into contact with the 'Sutherland Relics'.

The Slavic men's initial skepticism about Master Myris's earlier claim that "Todd may be the Holy Son protected by the Father" has shifted to wavering within just a few days.

What kind of miracles will happen to this farmer's child?

Such a question naturally came to mind for the man.

Todd glanced back at Edgar with a wary look, then said to Hudgens, "Is it alright to leave him here? I don't want anyone tattling on me again."

Grabbing the bristling, angry boy, the man chuckled and said, "Reporting your whereabouts to Master Myris is this little guy's job, so please don't blame him any more. But I believe that now that he's joined our cooperation, he should know what to do..."

Edgar shrank back slightly and nodded gently, noticing the 'meaningful' smile on Huggins' face.

Ignoring the expressions of those around him, Todd pointed to the blueprints with a wooden stick and explained what needed to be done next in the simplest and most understandable language possible.

Thanks to his past life as a teacher, the boy's simple yet profound explanations were enough for Huggins, who had no background in chemistry, to understand a thing or two.

"To put it simply, the Silver Ring Kingdom's silver ore refining technology is not yet mature, resulting in about 30% of the silver ingots remaining in the waste residue. This method can extract these remaining silver ingots. Is that what you mean?"

Listening to Huggins's statement, Todd thought for a moment and, with a rigorous academic attitude, corrected a minor problem in his words: "Considering factors such as furnace temperature, lead purity, and operator skill, the amount of silver extracted from the waste residue may not be as high as 30%..."

The man leaned down and pressed, "So, approximately how many?"

This issue involves the final profit, so he has to be concerned about it.

After doing the mental calculations, Todd gave a conservative answer: "Around 10%."

Huggins, wearing gloves, stroked the small braid on his chin and fell into thought.

The cost of the ore raw materials is zero, and the waste residue is piled up at the foot of the mountain, and there is as much of it as you need.

Lead was not a problem either; it could be obtained from the monastery's storeroom with just a little food, at a negligible cost.

The only expenses are for the wood and charcoal used as fuel, and the cost of equipment upgrades.

As for Todd's suggestion about what compensation to pay the craftsmen, the man didn't refute it, but rather listened to it as a joke.

Huggins did some mental calculations and came to this conclusion.

This is definitely a great deal!

The man slammed his hand on the table and said decisively, "Speak, what do you want us to do?!"

Todd held up his index finger: "Time. I need time to complete this plan. My usual morning classes and farm work take up my precious time."
