Chapter 636 The Emerging Mastermind

Myris was originally in meditation at the monastery, so there weren't many things that could make him suddenly leave without saying goodbye.

Other things are hard to say, but the murder of his illegitimate son definitely gives him a reason to abandon everything.

Todd recalled that night when Myris left without saying goodbye, so hastily that he didn't even leave a note.

At that time, Myris must have received a notification from someone else, which is why he left the monastery to rush to handle Marcos's funeral arrangements.

Further speculation suggests that this "other person" is likely someone from the Elders' Council who promised to help Myris retrieve Marcos's head and body and use the Elders' Council's technology to "resurrect" Marcos.

Having witnessed the church's actions firsthand, Myris naturally chose to break with it and treat it as an enemy.

This explains why Myriel appeared in Tero City seeking revenge and used the Black Plague to destroy the entire city.

Meanwhile, the Presbyterian Church's relief organization has been researching alien technologies. Its president, Theodore, once met Todd and mentioned that he had been researching the technology of the successors and had inadvertently discovered the principle of the "necromantic successors."

After that, Bone throat killed Theodore and stole the latter's research results, including the technology of the "Necromancers".

As things unfolded, another important character emerged in Todd's view as a crucial part of the Black Plague—the throat bone.

Back in the capital of the Southern Empire, Myris had mentioned to Todd that, as a wanted criminal by the Elders—Throat Bone—he had defected to the Empire and had been developing a weapon called the "Necromancer Inheritor."

If this weapon were developed and led to the emergence of the "Black Plague," the entire event would be logically complete.

Now, there are several key issues.

First, to what extent has the research on the Black Plague progressed, and is it already ready to be used as a biological weapon at will?

Second, the Black Plague originates from a bio-weapon technology called the Necromancers, originally developed by Theodore, who was later killed by Bone Throat and seized the technology. Now, are there others in the Elder Council who know this technology and can find a way to end it?

Third, who is currently in control of the Black Plague? Myris? Throat Bone? Or the Southern Empire?

Seeing Todd deep in thought for a long time, Huggins asked, "Your Majesty?"

Todd raised his hand, signaling him to be quiet for the moment.

Todd had always thought the Black Plague was caused by the Elders, but now it seems to be related to Myris, the Throat Bone, and the Southern Empire.

The black plague has now spread across the oceans, and according to the Valkyrie's report, the "undead army" transformed in the city of Tero is invading everywhere, with some even entering the territory of the Southern Empire.

Therefore, from this perspective, neither the throat bone, Myris, nor the Southern Empire had the ability to completely control the spread of the virus, and the overall situation was trending further towards getting out of control.

As Todd thought about this, a thought suddenly popped into his head: Could it be that someone's ultimate goal was to see the Black Plague spread?

Todd quickly dismissed the guess.

The rampant spread of the black plague is detrimental to everyone.

Imagine if the undead army occupied the entire world; no living being could survive alone. No one would be so foolish as to allow death to spread everywhere.

But what if the mastermind behind the spread of the black plague finds a way to combat its harmful effects...?

“Huggins, can you still get in touch with Myris?” Todd asked in a deep voice. “I want to see him.”

“I’m sorry, Your Majesty, after our meeting in the city of Tero, I never heard from Myris again.”

Todd then asked, "If Myris is the real culprit behind the Black Plague outbreak in Tyro City, then he must have had a way to avoid being harmed by the plague. Did he tell you?"

"No, I'm sorry."

"The image in the soul's reflection was too dark; I couldn't see any clues. But when you saw him, did you notice anything unusual? Like his behavior?"

Huggins racked his brains, then slowly said, "Myris looks a bit thin, but he's always been like that; as for Marcos next to him, if he really is a resurrected corpse, then I think he still retains some consciousness..."

Todd pressed on, "You mean, the resurrected Marcos still possesses the ability to think?"

“Your Majesty, I know what you’re questioning. How could a resurrected corpse possibly have a soul? But I vaguely remember that when Marcos attacked me and retreated, he glanced at me, and that look seemed to indicate that he remembered me…”

Are you sure?

Huggins shrugged: "But it's also possible that I'm seeing things. It was really dark back then, maybe it was just my imagination."

Disappointed, Todd sat back down at the conference table, reopened Huggins's memory, and froze on the moment Myris appeared. He said softly, "He was a very good teacher. No one expected things to turn out this way."

"Back at the San Sidlow Monastery, Myris took special care of Marcos," Huggins said with a sigh. "No matter what trouble that kid got into outside, Myris would do everything he could to help him. If Marcos really is his son, then digging up his body from the grave and seeing his head in the alien dungeon would certainly be enough to drive the old man insane."
