Chapter 478 The Awakening of Interests

Randall sat beside Barbara, staring silently at the woman's pointed ears and the pale blue aura that resembled tattoos.

Barbara covered her ears with her hands and whispered, "It looks awful, doesn't it?"

Randall gently shook his head: "No, I think it's beautiful."

“You must be lying to me…” Barbara blushed and buried her head between her knees: “I always thought you were dead.”

Randall shrugged: "I survived thanks to His Majesty..."

Barbara turned her head and asked curiously, "Thanks to His Majesty?"

Next, Randall told Barbara everything that had happened in those days.

The woman grew increasingly astonished as she listened, finally exclaiming in a low voice, "You mean, His Majesty is that black dragon?! He saved you?!"

“That’s right, and in Froststone City in the north, His Majesty is known as the Son of the Gods, a deity worshipped by all.”

Barbara suddenly remembered something: "Oh, right! I've always wanted to ask you, what's the deal with heaven?!"

"Hmm? You know about the Heavenly Kingdom too? That's the realm of gods where His Majesty resides. Sometimes, he takes people there for tours or meetings."

Barbara stood with her hands on her hips, glaring angrily at Randall: "Why didn't you ever tell me this before?!"

Randall said helplessly, "The existence of Heaven has always been a secret in Twilight City. To be honest, I don't understand why His Majesty would hide his divine status from the citizens of Twilight City..."

Barbara looked equally puzzled: "Yes, I heard from others that His Majesty hasn't returned to Muxi City for over a year. He's entrusted all affairs to the cabinet... What is he doing in the north? Why hasn't he come back?"

Randall sighed and shook his head.

Not far away, Carroll sat on the low wall, watching Randall and Barbara snuggling together, whispering to each other, her eyes filled with endless sorrow and lament.

"My God, why is that guy who should be dead here at this crucial moment! Why?!"

"These past few days, my relationship with Miss Barbara had finally started to improve, and I even carefully prepared a gift for her. Now, everything is ruined!"

"If I had known this would happen, I should have taken advantage of the situation and used force..."

Carroll scooped up Aldnan, who was hiding behind him, and pulled him in front of him, coldly saying to the werewolf, "Don't use my tone to say such filthy things!"

Aldenan placed his hands on his chest, his wolf tail drooping, and said seriously, "Dare you say you've never had such a thought?"

Carroll increased the pressure on his hands, and the faint sound of Aldenan's bones bending could be heard.

"I surrender! I surrender!" Aldenan immediately put on a smiling face: "My mistake."

Carol released Aldenan, took one last look at Barbara's retreating figure, stood up and said, "It's time to pack your things."

Aldenan rubbed his aching shoulders and asked, "Are you really planning to go north with them?"

Carol glanced at the werewolf: "It's better than staying in this catacombs."

The latter stroked his chin, thought for a moment, and nodded, saying, "That's true."

Looking at the strangely shaped group of "people" before him, Huggins said to Alfonso, "Besides the guards you brought this time, do you need me to provide you with some more knights?"

Alfonso shook his head: "No need."

Huggins hesitated: "Are you sure? Those few people combined could easily defeat the army of a small country."

Alfonso combed the parasite segments off his head and repeated, "No need."

Huggins spread his hands: "Alright, it's your decision. I'll go prepare the carriages and passes for you... Oh, by the way, before you leave, Lord Emerson would like to see you."

Alfonso put on his helmet, sheathed his greatsword, nodded, and said, "Perfect timing, I also have some questions I'd like to ask him."

The next day, at the Muxi Cathedral, the pilgrimage hall.

Emerson stood in the newly built room, looking at the magnificent cross on the altar, and asked Alfonso, "How is His Majesty in the north?"

The latter hesitated for a moment before replying, “Everything is normal in the north, but when I left, His Majesty was facing a powerful enemy.”

Emerson turned around and asked with concern, "A powerful enemy? How powerful?"

Looking at Emerson, Alfonso realized that although the cabinet prime minister was not old, he looked quite old.

His once full head of white hair now had strands of silver. Brown age spots were particularly noticeable on his cheeks, and wrinkles covered his forehead like deep ravines.

Faced with Emerson's question, Alfonso pondered for a moment and said, "According to what I learned from the Kingdom of Heaven Council, that enemy, relying solely on his own strength, destroyed over a hundred countries in the north in less than a month, including the parish's two mortal enemies—the Kingdom of Ulster and the Kingdom of Connaught."

Emerson's expression tightened: "You mean, the two most powerful barbarian kingdoms in the north perished because of this person?! And His Majesty didn't hold the Heavenly Kingdom Conference for a full six months, is that also related to this battle?!"

Alfonso lowered his head and replied, "My lord, I don't know. His Majesty has been out of contact for the past six months, and I'm worried it might be due to this war, but as his subject, my duty is to do my best to complete the tasks he has assigned me."

Emerson slumped onto the bench, closed his eyes, and said weakly, "When His Majesty left, he entrusted this country to me, hoping that I would manage everything well. But as time goes by, I feel more and more inadequate."
