Chapter 125 The Battle of Muxi (Part 5) shuhaige.net

The guard camp in Muxi Town was built on an earthen slope and divided into two areas by two two-meter-high sharp wooden walls. The outer area was the guard's training ground and stables, while the inner area was the guard's dormitory and warehouse.

The militiamen, shields in hand, blocked the only exit from the outer district. Through the gaps in their shields, they peeked at the approaching pirates and barbarians. Their palms were sweaty, and their lips were dry and chapped.

Standing at the highest point of the outer square, Todd, who was directing the battle, first looked at the thick smoke rising in the distance from Muxi Town, and then at the enemy slowly marching down the mound.

Excitement and nervousness caused his brain to rush with blood, and waves of dizziness made his steps unsteady.

This scene before him was neither a game nor a movie. There were no troop numbers visible above the troops, nor were there any red health bars above the soldiers' heads. The solid earth beneath his feet and the slightly acrid air in the air constantly reminded him that this was a genuine medieval battlefield, a hellish place where someone would die a gruesome death every minute.

Having changed out of her nun's robes and into armor, Rachel quietly walked up behind Todd: "Grand Master, the aliens have been arranged."

Todd nodded, indicating that he understood.

The pirates and barbarians stopped a hundred meters from the camp gate. The pirate leader shouted something, and under his command, the troops split into three groups, each with about eighty men. The strongest and most skilled warriors were assigned to the first group, the slightly weaker ones to the second, and the wounded and the weak to the third.

Lev limped up to Corwin, his eyes bloodshot, and pounded the man's chest. He said in a deep voice, "Either we meet in the treasure vault, or... we meet in the Temple of War!"

Corwin nodded emphatically: "May the Old Gods bless us."

Just then, a commotion broke out in the militia. One of the militiamen standing at the front took off his helmet, revealing a mask on his face—a lifelike wolf head mask.

Someone immediately recognized him and began to cheer loudly: "Lone Wolf! It's Lone Wolf! He's come to help us!"

The story of "Lone Wolf" is already well-known in Twilight Town. Some people love him because of his good deeds, while others criticize him because of his alien identity.

But today, everyone looked at this strange creature with respect and admiration. The reason was simple: in the final moment of life and death, the lone wolf chose to continue protecting the town.

Randall slammed his longsword against his shield and shouted, "For Twilight Town! For the Holy Son!"

The shouts, as loud as mountains, echoed continuously throughout the battlefield.

"For Muxi Town!"

"For the Holy Son!"

The pirate leader frowned as he looked at the other side, swung his battle axe forward, and let out a battle cry to signal the start of the war.

The first group of pirates and barbarians, with their shields at their sides, jogged to the foot of the mound, then raised their shields high and launched their final charge.

The militia's shortbowmen launched the first attack, raining arrows at the shields, but causing minimal damage.

When the pirates and barbarians were only five or six meters away from the camp entrance, a loud shout came from the militia, and the sharp ends of their spears were pressed against the ground, with the spearheads pointing outwards.

The enemy has no time to slow down. Experienced warriors will dodge spears by slightly turning their bodies, while novices will often use shield charges to force their way in.

At the camp's main gate, two groups clashed, the loud collisions and scraping sounds making Todd's teeth ache.

Although the enemy was outnumbered, the difference in physical fitness and strength was obvious.

Even though the militiamen managed to stand firm and had their comrades bracing them from behind, they were still knocked backward, their shoes leaving deep tracks on the ground.

A pirate used the crescent groove on his battle axe to hook onto the shield in front of him and pulled hard. With immense force, the militiaman's shield slipped from his grasp, and with a scream, his chest was cleaved open.

A barbarian raised his iron hammer and struck with all his might from top to bottom, shattering the shield of the militiaman in front of him and smashing his head into his chest.

In terms of combat skills, strength, reaction time, and experience, the militia were no match for the enemy. If things continued this way, defeat was only a matter of time.

"Ratchel!"

Todd shouted.

The woman's long hair fluttered in the air without wind, and her body gradually left the ground, rising into the air. A 40-centimeter square bundle floated in front of her.

The astonishing scene before them left the enemy speechless, causing them to forget to attack.

From her vantage point, Rachel had a clear view of the battlefield. She controlled the explosive charge to glide over the enemy's heads, landing precisely in the rear of the enemy's formation at the entrance.

A loud bang.

Flames, shockwaves, metal fragments, and rubble swept across the slope of the mound, a familiar scene that instilled endless fear in the enemy.

"Holy lightning has descended!"

"The evil god is angry!"

Seeing the enemy in disarray, Todd signaled the alien combat team to begin their attack.

The elemental mutants, spewing flames and emitting shrieks, disrupted the enemy's formation and boosted the morale of their own side.

Melee-type mutants emerged from the shield formation, raised their weapons, and began close combat with the enemy.

A barbarian plunged his longsword into his opponent's chest, and to his horror, he discovered that not only had the wound disappeared, but the enemy's skin had also turned into a layer of silvery-gray metal.

Minutes later, the first wave of enemies retreated.

Standing at the highest point of the square, Todd saw this scene, his fingernails dug deeply into his palms, and only one thought echoed in his mind.
