Before the words were finished, the door, which could no longer withstand the impact, suddenly collapsed, and dozens of parasitic corpses rushed into the hall like a tidal wave, waving their parasitic limbs and attacking anything living they could see.
Randall kicked aside a parasitized soldier and yelled at the others, "The hall can't be held! Everyone retreat to the stairs!"
The group fought and retreated, taking advantage of the terrain of the spiral staircase to fight against overwhelming odds and try their best to buy time.
The cries of griffins echoed throughout the room, and Randall knew that every minute he held on ensured a Valkyrie could safely take the two children away.
Finally, Randall and his companions retreated to the last step of the stairs, behind which lay the small and dilapidated rooftop of the clock tower.
Barbara placed the last child on the griffin's back and shouted at Randall's retreating figure, "All the children are gone, now it's your turn!"
Kicked a parasitic corpse down the steps, and without turning his head, Randall shouted, "You go first!"
"If you don't leave, I won't leave either!"
Hearing the conversation on the clock tower rooftop, Ashley, the Valkyrie flying in the air, shouted angrily, "Look down for yourselves! If you don't leave now, it'll be too late!"
Randall, shield in hand, retreated to the edge of the rooftop and glanced down. The sight before him made him gasp in horror.
Looking around, the area within a kilometer radius of the clock tower was densely packed with parasitic corpses.
They were forming a human wall from all directions, looking like ants from a distance, one stepping on another's shoulders, slowly climbing up the clock tower wall, almost reaching the edge of the rooftop.
"Carol! Aldnan! You two come with me and clear out those guys climbing the wall!" Randall ran to the edge of the rooftop, kicked an enemy who had just climbed up off the edge, and then yelled at Barbara, "Get on that griffin! Get out of here!"
Barbara glanced at Randall, gritted her teeth, and mounted the griffin.
Just as the griffin took to the air, a sudden and dramatic change occurred.
Bulville smashed the head of a parasitic zombie, but accidentally got some of the splattered blood on his shoulder.
Feeling the black blood burrowing into his skin like worms, the minotaur roared in pain.
He swung his weapon forcefully, sweeping it horizontally and sending the enemies in front of him flying. Then he stumbled and fell to the ground.
Kellogg was horrified and rushed to Bulville's side, pulling out a dagger to try and scoop out the black blood.
“It’s no use… I can feel those things burrowing into my body…” Bulville gasped for breath, his eyes bloodshot. He grabbed Kellogg’s arm and said, “Give me a hand…”
The usually composed lizardman showed a hint of panic on his face for the first time: "Listen! You'll be alright! Just take you back to the Crusades, where there are the best doctors..."
Bulville, struggling to suppress the excruciating pain within him, gritted his teeth and roared, "Look at me! I can't go back! At least! At least let me go to see the Dragon God with dignity!"
Kellogg stood there, stunned. After a moment, he said softly, "I understand."
Kellogg took the oil lamp he had found earlier from his waist and poured all the oil inside onto himself and Bulville.
More and more parasitic zombies rushed up the clock tower stairs, screaming and roaring as they charged toward the rooftop.
Looking at the overwhelming tide of enemies before him, Kellogg first used his body to support Bulville, helping the latter to his feet. Then he asked in a low voice, "Ready?"
Bulville looked down at Kellogg: "You don't need to come with me..."
Kellogg smiled and said, "The journey from here to heaven is long and arduous; you'll need a companion on your journey..."
Bourville quietly closed his eyes and said nothing more.
Kellogg took the flint from his pocket.
"For the glory of the Dragon God!"
A crisp impact, a dazzling burst of crimson flame.
Amidst the raging fire, the two charged towards the horde of corpses, using their bodies to block the exit of the stairs. They transformed their lives into the last light, completely shutting out the darkness from this small platform.
