Chapter 172 Going to the Market

Strangely, although the woman had clearly been dead for decades, the grave looked brand new.

Apart from the rotten wood covered with poisonous mushrooms, there wasn't a single weed.

The graves here are mostly for people who have been dead for decades. Even if there are family members, they only come to burn paper money during the Qingming Festival. As a result, most of the graves are still covered with weeds.

The grave, which looked like a new burial, seemed somewhat out of place.

Lu Qing dug away a handful of soil from the grave, and found that it was damp underneath.

"No! This grave has been disturbed!"

Lu Qing hurriedly asked her grandfather, "Do you know this deceased woman, Zhao Jinzhi?"

The old man glanced at the tombstone and said helplessly:

"Judging by her age, I was only ten years old when she passed away. How could I possibly have known her!"

“That’s true!” Lu Qing frowned.

At this moment, Sun Dachun urged:

"Didn't we come here to have Yangyang apologize to the dead? Hurry up and finish this, then leave. What do you care who's in this grave!"

Lu Qing suppressed his doubts and then lit three incense sticks in front of the grave.

"Yangyang, come here and kneel down!"

Sun Yang obediently did as instructed.

Lu Qing formed a hand seal, and a cluster of flames instantly ignited the three incense sticks.

There was no wind around, but the smoke kept drifting into the grave, as if something inside was sucking it in.

Seeing this, Lu Qing breathed a slight sigh of relief.

The fact that the soul in the grave is willing to accept this incense means that she is willing to let Sun Yang go.

"This humble one was ignorant and had no intention of disturbing you. I offer three incense sticks, please forgive me, senior!"

After saying that, Lu Qing took out three lit incense sticks and handed them to Sun Yang:

"Three rises and three bows, your head must touch the ground, do you understand?"

Sun Yang nodded, swallowed, then stood up holding three incense sticks, knelt down again, and kowtowed. He repeated this three times before stopping.

Seeing the smoke drifting towards the grave, Lu Qing said:

"Stick the incense sticks in the ground!"

Sun Yang immediately did as instructed.

There were six incense sticks in total. Lu Qing only let Sun Yang get up after they had all burned out.

Seeing the gloomy aura lingering between his brows dissipate, he smiled and said:

"Your senior has forgiven you. You're alright now, you can go home!"

Upon hearing this, Sun Yang finally felt relieved.

"Thank you, sister! Thank you for forgiving me, senior! I will never eat your mushrooms again!"

"Now that everything's alright, let's hurry back. This place is kind of creepy at night!" Sun Yang's mother said, rubbing her arms.

Let's go!

The group left the cemetery, but Lu Qing had a question lingering in his mind.

Who exactly renovated this old grave, and what's the deal with the rotten wood growing out of it?

Lu Qing had an urge to dig up the grave and take a look, but it was really not very kind of him to dig up the grave for no reason, so he could only suppress his doubts.

Lu Qing tossed and turned all night, unable to fall asleep.

Curiosity kept her thinking about the grave; she always felt that it held some earth-shattering secret.

Having barely slept all night, Lu Qing emerged the next morning with dark circles under her eyes.

Han Ziyuan was startled:

"Qingqing, what's wrong with you? Your dark circles are so bad. Didn't you sleep well last night?"

Lu Qing yawned and sighed helplessly:

"Yeah, I didn't sleep well!"

Han Ziyuan: "Is the bed here uncomfortable?"

Before Lu Qing could answer, Gu Xicheng smiled and said:

"I guess it's not because of the bed, but because of the grave from last night."

Han Ziyuan asked, puzzled, "What grave?"

"After what happened with Yangyang at Sun Dachun's house last night, Qingqing felt that the grave was a bit strange and wanted to dig it up to take a look. She's probably been thinking about it all night!" Gu Xicheng said with a smile.

Han Ziyuan was truly helpless:

"Qingqing, you can't just dig up the graves in the field. If they still have descendants, and they find out you dug up their ancestors' graves, it will cause a lot of trouble!"

Lu Qing: "I know! That's why we didn't dig!"

"Alright, alright! Stop thinking about that grave. Go wash up, eat something, and then take a nap."

Han Ziyuan pushed Lu Qing into the bathroom, then sighed heavily.

After washing up, Lu Qing was too tired to stay awake, but since she couldn't fall asleep, she could only take out the calming stone and hang it around her neck.

With the stone there, she quickly perked up.

My maternal grandparents came over early in the morning in their electric car.

"Qingqing, we're going to the market. Do you want to come with us? The market is so lively, and there are lots of delicious things to eat!"

Lu Qing's eyes lit up at the mention of food.

"Go, go, go! Of course I'll go if there's something delicious to eat!"

Back when they were at Yutai Mountain, Lu Qing loved to go down the mountain with his master and mistress to the market. The lively atmosphere of the market always made Lu Qing feel exceptionally at ease.

My grandpa's old man's car can only seat four people. After bringing Lu Qing along, the only remaining seat is for Gu Xicheng.

It was a pity that Gu Xicheng, who was 185 cm tall, was huddled in the car and kept bumping his head because of the bumpy road.

Lu Qing couldn't help but laugh.

Fortunately, the market wasn't far from home; it only took about ten minutes to get there.

"Little Gu, I'm so sorry, you must have been jostled too much! Your grandfather is getting old, and the roads in the village are narrow, so it's inconvenient for him to drive a big car. That's why he bought a small one. It's so hard for you, such a big guy, to squeeze in!" Grandma said apologetically.

Gu Xicheng waved his hands repeatedly:

"It's alright, Grandma! I'm fine, I'm not feeling that bad."

Grandma looked at Gu Xicheng, and the more she looked, the happier she became, her wrinkles deepening with her smile:

"Good child, tell Grandma what you want to eat later, and Grandma will buy it for you!"

The market was crowded and bustling. Gu Xicheng held Lu Qing's hand tightly, protecting her by his side, afraid that she would be jostled by the crowd.

Lu Qing's maternal grandparents were in charge of buying things for the festival, while Lu Qing was in charge of eating his way through the entire market.

Candied hawthorn, steamed rice cake, chestnuts, rice cake, glutinous rice cake...

Lu Qing devoured all the snacks that could only be made with the most authentic flavor at the market, and even after he was full, he didn't forget to bring some back for the rest of his family.

When we got back, the car's small trunk was completely full.

Even the back seats, which have few empty spaces, were filled with a lot of things.

This suited Gu Xicheng perfectly, because with less space, he could have a reason to hold Lu Qing in his arms.

On the way back, with a beauty in his arms, Gu Xicheng grinned broadly even after being kowtowed several times.

As we approached the village entrance, my grandfather seemed to see an acquaintance and stopped the car to greet him.

"Old Zhao, are you going to the market too?"

"Yes! You're back from the market!" Old Zhao asked with a smile.

"Oh! We just got back. This is my granddaughter Qingqing and her husband Xiao Gu."

"Qingqing, Xiao Gu, this is Grandpa Zhao!" Grandpa introduced.

Lu Qing and Gu Xicheng quickly greeted, "Greetings, sir!"

Grandpa Zhao is quite old, with gray hair, but he is in great spirits and very healthy.

Lu Qing thought to himself, his surname is Zhao, and the owner of the grave last night was named Zhao Jinzhi. Could the two of them be related?

"The opportunity is too good to miss," Lu Qing hurriedly asked.

"Sir, do you know Zhao Jinzhi?"

Grandpa Zhao was taken aback: "Girl, how do you know my mother's name?"
