Chapter 34 Past Events

Liu Yong's eyes reddened when he recalled what happened back then.

Wang Yanjun was somewhat displeased, his tone carrying a hint of anger:

"You! Why are you arguing with him without any evidence!"

"What can I do? He killed my sister. You can tolerate it, but I can't!" Liu Yong said angrily.

Upon hearing this, Wang Yanjun's anger intensified.

"Can't bear it? What good result did you get for not being able to bear it? You served in the army for five years, went to the battlefield and made meritorious contributions, and when you came out, you just sat in jail and lost everything."

"I..." Liu Yong wanted to refute, but the words wouldn't come out.

In the years since he got out, he has been regretting his impulsive actions, regretting that instead of killing his enemy, he ruined the rest of his life.

Enraged, Wang Yanjun poured himself a glass of baijiu and downed it in one gulp.

It took him a long time to regain his composure.

"What are you doing now?" Wang Yanjun asked.

Liu Yong gave a bitter smile: "Lu Zhao is not dead. After I got out, no matter where I worked, he would bring people to cause trouble. After a while, no place dared to hire me."

"Then why don't you leave here?" Wang Yanjun frowned.

"Do you think I don't want to?" Liu Yong gritted his teeth.

“I broke one of Lü Zhao’s legs, and in order to get revenge on me, he used every means to force me to stay in town.”

“No boss dared to hire me, so I could only pick up bottles on the roadside and sell them at the garbage station. I’ve been doing this for over a year.”

At this point, Liu Yong couldn't help but shed tears.

"Wang Yanjun, all of this...this is all your fault, it's all your fault!!"

Wang Yanjun's eyes also reddened. He had indeed let Liu Yong down, and even more so, his sister.

Lu Qing, having nothing better to do than listen to their conversation but unable to get a word in edgewise, couldn't resist his curiosity and decided to cast a divination to predict the matter between them.

This calculation turned out to be a major juicy story.

Liu Yong's older sister, Liu Xue, turned out to be his first love.

Wang Yanjun had been with her before he joined the army. The two had a very good relationship and even agreed to get married after he was discharged.

Five years later, Wang Yanjun did not retire from the army, but was promoted to battalion commander. This was a good thing, but his rival from the same period, Lü Zhao, was not convinced.

Lu Zhao felt that Wang Yanjun had taken his battalion commander position, so he harbored resentment.

After learning that Wang Yanjun had a girlfriend he had been dating for many years, he found an excuse to lure Liu Xue to the remote mountains.

Upon hearing the news, Wang Yanjun rushed over immediately and found Liu Xue.

However, heavy rain that day caused a mudslide that blocked their way out, trapping them in a cave.

They had no clean water or food, and their cell phones were broken, making it extremely difficult for rescuers to locate them.

In this situation, Liu Xue was also seriously injured.

They held on for three days, but Liu Xue died from an infection in her wound.

Wang Yanjun was devastated, but beyond his grief, he faced an even more difficult test—survival.

There was no water, no food, and in that empty cave filled only with stones, besides him, there was only Liu Xue's corpse.

Finally, after enduring three more days, he had no choice but to survive on Liu Xue's corpse.

Liu Xue is best at making braised pork, which Wang Yanjun also loves to eat. That day, Liu Xue's pork looked exactly like the steaming braised pork on the table.

Wang Yanjun was rescued five days later, with bits of flesh in his mouth, while Liu Xue's body was not fully recovered.

Everyone understood what had happened and what a person might do when starving, but Liu Yong couldn't accept it.

Liu Xue was harmed by Lü Zhao because of Wang Yanjun, but Wang Yanjun survived by eating her flesh and drinking her blood. No one can accept that, especially since Liu Xue is Liu Yong's only remaining relative.

No wonder Wang Yanjun looked nostalgic as soon as he entered the town; it turns out this is his wife's hometown!

Having learned everything, Lu Qing looked at her older brother with pity.

Wang Yanjun knew from her expression what she had just calculated, and he warned her sternly:

"Whatever you know, shut up!"

Lu Qing covered her mouth and made a zipping motion to indicate that she would definitely not tell anyone.

Getting back to the main topic, Wang Yanjun looked at Liu Yong:

"You grew up here, so you must know the surrounding villages and roads well, right?"

Liu Yong frowned, looking wary, and asked, "What are you going to do?"

Wang Yanjun took out a wad of cash from his wallet and handed it to him:

"Can we hire you to be our tour guide?"

Liu Yong was about to refuse instinctively, but before he could speak, Wang Yanjun added:

"Your sister wouldn't want to see you like this. She wants you to live a good life."

Liu Yong pursed his lips, then accepted the money:

"Where are you going? I'll show you the way!"

“In Changlin Town, Xiagou Township, Group 3, there is a family surnamed Li,” Wang Yanjun replied.

Liu Yong thought for a moment and said:

"Xiagou Township is a bit far from here, did you drive there?"

Wang Yanjun picked up the car keys: "Let's go!"

The three immediately got into the car and set off, arriving at Li Ningqiang's hometown in half an hour.

Li Ningqiang's hometown is deserted, but the house is still there. When Li Mengmeng was studying there, there was a nanny. After she went to university, no one lived there anymore.

According to Li Ningqiang, Zhao Meilian was buried on a nearby mountain back then.

"Where is the nearest barren mountain?" Wang Yanjun asked.

After a moment of silence, Liu Yong said coldly:

"There's only one barren mountain here. Shouldn't you know best where it is?"

Wang Yanjun's gaze darkened, and all the muscles in his body tensed instantly, even his voice became hoarse:

"It's...it's that mountain!"

"Most of the mountains here have been developed into tourist attractions, but that one mountain is prone to landslides when it rains, burying many corpses, so no one goes there."

“If you’re looking for a barren mountain, that’s the only one,” Liu Yong said, his voice choked with emotion.

Seeing their expressions, Lu Qing weakly spoke up:

"Or... should I go by myself?"

Wang Yanjun turned his back, wiped his eyes, and said in a deep voice:

"I'm not that weak, let's go!"

"Let's go take a look before it gets dark!"

Wang Yanjun would never forget the exact location of that mountain, but he never imagined that he would return to that place one day.

When we arrived at the foot of the mountain, the car could no longer go up.

Lu Qing took out the ghost baby, which would allow him to find the place where Zhao Meilian was buried.

The piercing screams of the ghostly infant inside the Soul-Suppressing Bottle startled Liu Yong:

"W-what's in this bottle? Why is it making noise?"

"That's a ghost. Don't ask any questions, just stick close to it," Wang Yanjun warned quietly.

Liu Yong's heart skipped a beat; he was startled, but he quickly expressed his disdain:

"What the hell! I bet it's some kind of high-tech stuff. Don't try to scare me!"

"I'm not kidding you!"

Wang Yanjun frowned slightly; he was still worried, so he handed the car keys to Liu Yong.

"Take this and go back to the car to wait for us."

Liu Yong snorted and said, "Fine, I'll go back then. I don't want to climb mountains with you guys!"

Looking at the eerie mountain, Wang Yanjun added another word of advice:

"If you encounter strange people or things, never get out of the car. There are talismans on the car. As long as you don't get out, nothing will happen."

Liu Yong turned and left impatiently, while Wang Yanjun gave him some words of advice with concern:

"Remember! Stay in the car and don't open the door!"
