Extra 2: Leng Wei, Tang Yu

Extra 2: Leng Wei, Tang Yu

[Weiwei, actually, I've liked you for a very, very long time!]

These words were written on a ginkgo leaf that had long since turned yellow; they were in Tang Yu's handwriting.

After graduation, Tang Yu took Leng Wei home.

Tang Yu did not have a good relationship with his parents. His parents divorced when he was in high school and remarried soon after.

He has almost lost contact with his parents, but his grandparents treat him very well.

So after confirming his relationship with Leng Wei, he only took Leng Wei to meet his grandparents.

Grandpa and Grandma were very happy and prepared a big table of dishes. Although they weren't fancy, they were all made with care.

Knowing that their grandson was bringing his girlfriend home, the elderly couple cleaned the house inside and out several days in advance, and even bought new quilts and sheets to make the house spotless.

After dinner, Tang Yu was washing the dishes while Leng Wei looked around his room.

I stumbled upon a very old, vintage romance novel on the bookshelf.

She remembered that Tang Yu didn't read these kinds of books; his bookshelf was mostly filled with computer-related books, but this romance novel was placed in a very conspicuous position.

Grandma smiled and said:

"That book was brought home by Xiaoyu in high school. He said it was a limited edition given to him by a classmate, and he treasures it!"

Leng Wei chuckled: "So it was something he watched in high school!"

She casually flipped it open and found a dried-out ginkgo leaf inside.

A sentence was written on the leaf in pen:

[Weiwei, actually, I've liked you for a very, very long time!]

Leng Wei's eyes flickered as she looked at the novel, and some long-faded memories slowly resurfaced.

This novel... seems to be hers!

Leng Wei hurriedly flipped to the last page of the book and, sure enough, found a hand-drawn crape myrtle flower at the very end.

In high school, we passed around our paper novels to each other, but we were afraid that if they were passed around, we wouldn't know whose they were anymore, so we each marked our books.

The crape myrtle flower is the symbol of the cold crape myrtle.

This is her book!

But how did her book end up with Tang Yu?

Just as she was wondering, Tang Yu walked in and hugged her from behind:

"Oops! You found out!"

Leng Wei immediately turned around, grabbed his collar, and asked in a feignedly fierce tone:

"Tell me! How did the novel I read in high school end up with you? Tell me the truth now!"

Tang Yu laughed and said, "This is a gift from you, you forgot!"

Leng Wei was taken aback: "I gave it to you? Have I known you since high school?"

Tang Yu nodded, then took out a class photo from the drawer:

"Look! This is a group photo of Class 5, Grade 1 at Experimental High School. This is me, and this is you."

Leng Wei was shocked when she saw the disheveled, dark-skinned, and chubby boy in the photo.

"Is this you?"

Tang Yu: "That's right! Don't you think I've changed a lot?"

"It's more than just a little big, it's practically the size of two people!" Leng Wei exclaimed in surprise.

In his first year of high school, Tang Yu always wore an unclean school uniform, was chubby, wore black-rimmed glasses, kept his head down, and didn't like to talk.

He may not be the most handsome man now, but at least he's clean and tidy.

He is 1.82 meters tall, weighs 150 kilograms, has a well-proportioned and muscular figure, and fair skin.

He's a very sunny and refreshing boy.

It's completely different from what it used to be.

"How could you change so much? I haven't recognized you at all after all this time!" Leng Wei asked.

Tang Yu lowered his eyes slightly and smiled:

"You may not remember, but I will never forget what happened to me."

When he was in his first year of high school, his parents divorced and both found new partners, so neither of them wanted him as a burden.

During that period, he often lived alone in a rented room.

No one took care of him, and he simply didn't have the time or energy to take care of himself.

He often skipped classes and spent the whole night in internet cafes.

Using games to numb my senses and forget my parents' arguments.

After several months, he finally couldn't take it anymore and decided to commit suicide to end his life.

That evening during self-study, he went to the rooftop alone.

Just as I was about to jump, I heard the girl's laughter.

Filled with curiosity, Tang Yu walked over and saw the girl secretly reading a novel in a corner.

The girl was looking at something and laughing very happily.

She was so engrossed in watching that she didn't even notice anyone approaching.

She was startled and turned around abruptly when Tang Yu accidentally stepped on a stone and made a sound.

Seeing that it wasn't a teacher or the head of the grade, she immediately breathed a sigh of relief and asked with a grin:

"Hey kid, you're here to read a novel too!"

"I thought I was the only smart one who came to the rooftop to look, but I didn't expect there were other people like me."

"Where's your novel? Let's take turns reading it!"

Tang Yu remained silent. He couldn't very well tell the girl that he had come to jump off the building!

Just then, footsteps came from the stairwell.

Startled, Leng Wei quickly pulled Tang Yu to hide in a corner. They played hide-and-seek with their homeroom teacher for a long time before finally escaping down from the rooftop.

Once she reached a safe place, Leng Wei breathed a sigh of relief.

Then she heard Tang Yu's stomach growl. She smiled slightly, took a piece of bread out of her pocket, and handed it to him.

"This is hush money. You're not allowed to reveal my secret base!"

After Leng Wei left, Tang Yu stood there, unable to come back to his senses for a long time.

From that day on, he would steal glances at Leng Wei from time to time.

Seeing her radiant smile every day, seeing her grinning even after being scolded by the homeroom teacher, seeing her sneaking off to the rooftop to read novels...

Tang Yu seemed to have found something interesting.

He didn't want to die!

Later, his grandparents took him back to the countryside.

The night before he left, he went to the rooftop and asked Leng Wei, who was reading a novel, if he could have the novel he had finished reading.

Leng Wei readily agreed.

From then on, Tang Yu never saw Leng Wei again, but he made up his mind to live a good life.

He studied hard and tried his best to become a better person.

He thought he would never see that girl again, but unexpectedly, not long after starting university, he met her again.

Leng Wei always thought that their reunion that day was an accident, but she never imagined it was Tang Yu's long-planned scheme.
