Chapter 26

"What's that sound? It sounds like someone is banging on the wall." Sang Chi looked at the half-open wooden door and took a few steps forward.

The little boy's expression changed suddenly. He pushed Sang Chi away with all his strength and stood in front of the wooden door with his arms outstretched, like a small animal baring its fangs to defend its territory. He roared,

"You heard it wrong! There is no sound in my house! You are not allowed to enter without my permission!"

"Little boy, calm down, we have no ill intentions." Lu Ziyun looked at the aggrieved and angry look of the little boy, and his voice became gentler. "We want to help you. Do you know the nearby Beijing Institute of Technology?"

The little boy was stunned for a moment.

Everyone living here knows about BIT.

Every Saturday and Sunday, his mother took him to the school library to read books and to the playground to run and exercise, saying that it would allow him to experience the atmosphere of a university campus in advance.

The purpose is to motivate him to study hard and make progress every day, and to get into a good university.

His mother also said that when he grows up and goes to high school, she wants him to apply to Beijing Institute of Technology.

Because my parents are not traveling far away and the place where I study is close to home, my mother feels at ease.

Thinking of this, the little boy sniffed and nodded, "I know."

Lu Ziyun nodded lightly and pointed at Sang Chi, "This big brother is a student of Beijing Institute of Technology."

Sang Chi waved to the little boy, and his dimples showed in his smile, showing his friendliness.

"Really? You're not lying to me?" The little boy's expression softened a little, but his eyes were full of doubt.

"Well, I'm not lying to you," Lu Ziyun smiled helplessly and continued, "Beijing Institute of Technology has now become a survivor base. There are no zombies inside and it's very safe. If you and your mother go there, you don't have to worry about anything. Don't you want to?"

The little boy nodded subconsciously, but then he shook his head violently and replied firmly: "No, I don't want to. It's enough for me to have my mother with me. I don't need to go to the base!"

"Why? Isn't it the same if you go to Beijing Institute of Technology with your mother?" Lu Ziyun asked softly, his eyes sweeping across the wooden door behind the little boy.

"No reason, I just don't want to go," the little boy took a deep breath.

The banging sounds upstairs continued. The little boy had lost his patience and continued to urge Lu Ziyun and the others to leave with an anxious look on his face.

Lu Ziyun lowered his eyes and guessed the reason why the little boy was so impatient. He said, "The person upstairs is your mother. Your mother has turned into a zombie. You are afraid that we will hurt her, so you keep driving us away, right?"

In an instant, the little boy's face lost all color. He gritted his teeth and roared stubbornly.

"So what if my mother turns into a zombie?"

"Mom is mom. Even if she turns into a zombie, she is still mom. It has nothing to do with you. Don't even think about touching her!"

He was like a little lone wolf with its claws bared, standing alone in front of the wooden door, as if guarding the whole world.

Sang Chi felt a little uncomfortable. He walked forward, bent down, gently touched the top of the little boy's head, and said softly, "Can we go up and take a look? No one will hurt her."

Lu Ziyun and Huo Shen looked at each other and nodded.

The little boy pursed his lips and was silent for a few seconds. He took a deep breath and said, "Okay, I'll let you go up."

After saying that, the little boy quickly approached Sangsang and grabbed her arm. With a fierce look on his face, he threatened her sternly, "But if you don't keep your word, I will definitely be rude to her!"

This cunning little brat!

Huo Shen and the others' expressions changed, and they quickly said, "Let go first. She is several years younger than you. How dare you bully her?"

The little boy held Sangsang's little arm tighter and nodded, "Thank you."

Sangsang tilted her head, blinked her clear eyes, and asked curiously in a baby voice, "How do you want to be rude to me?"

The little boy snorted and said, "Don't worry about it. If your brothers lie to me again, I will definitely bully you!"

Sangsang pursed her lips and shook her head, "Don't worry, my brothers won't lie to you anymore."

Then Sangsang took the little boy's hand, smiled with a smile on her face and said, "You are scared, right? Don't be afraid, I will take you up together."

The little boy was stunned for a moment, then he realized what was happening and frowned, "I'm not scared. You're my hostage now, so you're the one who should be scared!"

"Oh, okay," Sangsang pursed her lips, revealing her dimples. She nodded and said seriously, "I'm super scared now, very scared~".

Little boy: “…”

The little boy looked at the little girl with a sweet smile, and his face turned red again with anger.

He snorted, pulled Sangsang and turned to go upstairs.

Lu Ziyun and the others followed the two children and walked through the wooden door.

Behind the door is a small, narrow warehouse filled with cardboard boxes of clothes. On the other side is a staircase leading directly to the second floor.

After going upstairs, one could clearly hear the sound of banging mixed with the zombies' roars coming continuously from one of the rooms. Even the door was banging. It was obvious that the little boy's mother had been trying to get out of the house after turning into a zombie.

Even adults would be scared living in such an environment, but the little boy was unwilling to leave.

"Aren't you afraid?" Sang Chi couldn't help but ask.

The little boy reached out and knocked on the door, shook his head and murmured, "It's my mother inside, I have nothing to be afraid of."

Huo Shen looked around the living room and saw no signs of fighting with zombies. He wondered, "Is there anyone else in your family who helped you lock your mutated mother into the house? Otherwise, how did you, a little kid, do it?"

Hearing this question, the little boy couldn't help himself any longer. His eyes turned red and he whispered, "After my mother knew she was caught, she went into the house and locked the door herself."

It turned out that on the afternoon of the apocalypse, the little boy was not feeling well and did not go to school, so he accompanied his mother downstairs to watch the store and attract customers.

At that time, a mutant appeared on the street, but no one knew about it and just watched. After the zombies appeared, the onlookers fled frantically, and a man who was bitten escaped to the store.

Seeing that something was wrong, the little boy's mother immediately decided to kick the man out. In her panic, her arm was scratched and left with bloody marks.

After locking the glass door of the clothing store, she took the little boy upstairs. It didn't take long for her to feel something was wrong with her body.

She was afraid that she would turn into a man-eating monster and hurt the children.

She quickly told the little boy a few words, then resolutely locked herself in the room and locked the door... This was the last protection a mother gave her children.

"I want to see my mother. I'm not afraid of being bitten." The little boy rubbed his red eyes, his voice filled with low tears. "But I can't open the door. When she went in, she took the room key with her."

The little boy let go of Sangsang's arm, wiped his tears, and continued, "Now that we're done, can you leave?"

Several people said nothing. After knowing what had happened, they could not let him stay here alone.

Otherwise, sooner or later his mutated mother would break through the wooden door and run out, and then the little boy would definitely be in great danger.

Huo Shen patted the little boy's head and said, "What's your name?"

"Guo Xiaoliang," the little boy sniffed and whispered back.

Huo Shen nodded, then he looked at the wooden door that was banging against the wall, and said softly, "Xiao Liang, a real man should wipe away your tears. Crying won't solve the problem."

"If you want to see your mother, we will help you."
