Chapter 6 Paper Man 06 "Because We Are Friends"
Your "goodbye" is a polite expression in the popular sense.
The essential meaning is... never see each other again.
But what Mars understood was that you wanted to see it again.
So it comes to see you, it's that simple.
You were in a daze for a while before you asked, "Are you okay running out like this?"
"fine"
"Although your house is a little small and there aren't many places to go, I don't mind."
Mas’s smile was bright, a stark contrast to your tragic mood.
This must be your hallucination. You have begun to suspect that you have mental problems.
"Maybe a good night's sleep will help."
You muttered to yourself as you lay down on the bed, pulled the covers over your head, and closed your eyes.
Maybe when I wake up tomorrow morning, everything will be back to normal.
You thought you were going to have insomnia, but within two minutes you fell asleep, but…
In a daze, you felt as if your face touched something cold. You subconsciously turned over, and then you felt a tingling sensation on your scalp.
You suddenly wake up.
You sat up. It was still light, allowing you to barely see the scene in front of you without turning on the lights.
The black tentacles in the frame didn't have time to completely retract, and simply remained frozen in place.
It's as if if it doesn't move, you won't see it.
A bunch of long black hair was hanging on the tentacle, which was a bit shocking.
This couldn't possibly be an illusion. You touched your still-tingling scalp and finally gave up hope.
"Mars, what exactly do you want to do?"
You moved a stool over and sat in front of the picture frame.
If it just wanted to be with its friends and followed you home because you didn't want to stay in the art museum, then that's fine. The worst that could happen is that you'll just have one more strange, spooky painting in your home.
But...what's going on here, sneaking into your bed in the middle of the night?
The black tentacles twisted into a ball, and the man in the painting looked a little shy. He slowly turned his head away, avoiding your sight.
A small piece of writing appeared on the drawing paper.
“Mas doesn’t know either.”
"...Mas just really wants to touch you and be with you."
“…What are you talking about?”
You hadn't slept well and were feeling a little angry, but Mars' words left you speechless and you just turned your head away awkwardly.
After calming down for a while, you spoke again, reminding him: "You can stay here if you want, but you can't sneak into my bed without my permission, and you can't pull my hair with your tentacles."
"oh"
"Okay, I'm going to bed..." You took a few steps back before you remembered something and quickly turned around: "You can't just run outside like this. You'll scare others."
"I know."
Seeing Mars nodding his head obediently, you finally lay back in bed with peace of mind and continued to catch up on your sleep.
The next day, you woke up to the aroma of food.
Even if you have always been very brave, when you wake up, you will inevitably be scared by the scene in front of you.
Countless little eyeballs surrounded the entire bed. After looking at you, they began to sway as if to say hello to you.
When you lift the quilt and prepare to get up, all the tentacles beside the bed will retract, leaving you a space to walk.
The air was filled with the aroma of food.
You walked towards the kitchen with full of doubts, only to find that two black tentacles had emerged from the painting hanging on the wall of the restaurant.
Two tentacles were busy in the kitchen.
You were not very hungry at first, but after smelling the aroma of food, your stomach started to growl and your mouth began to secrete saliva.
By the time you finish washing up, a hot breakfast will have been placed on the wooden table.
Toast, fried eggs and milk, especially soft-boiled eggs, are particularly appetizing.
As you approached the table, a tentacle pulled the chair out for you.
"……Thank you."
You sat down with a subtle mood and started to enjoy a breakfast made by a paper man.
You looked up at the painting on the wall of the restaurant. It was originally a landscape painting. The picture originally showed a beautiful sea of flowers with no one around, but now there was a man in the center of the picture.
He was sitting on the grass, watching you eat intently.
You are clearly the only one at home, but at this moment, you feel as if you are not alone.
You don’t know if other people have encountered this kind of thing, nor do you know how they feel. You only know that your feelings are a little complicated.
If someone is inexplicably nice to you, you may have a lot of speculations in your mind, but as a monster, what can Mars want from you?
It's not right to pursue money, and it's even more wrong to pursue people.
You are very confused about this, but you don't dare to think too much about it. You just finish your meal in silence.
Maybe Mars gets bored after staying at your house for a few days and goes back to His hometown.
Thinking of this, you finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After you finished your meal, Mas cleared the dishes from the table and started cleaning.
You looked at it for a while and found that there was really no way you could help, so you put your mind at ease and went back to the study to start working.
You were originally worried that when you were working, Mars would disturb you and ask you to chat and play with him, which would make you very distressed.
But the truth is you're overthinking it.
When you finish immersing yourself in the painting, you look up and find that Mars is just sitting quietly in the painting on the wall of your study.
"Are you done with the painting?"
“…Hmm.” You put down the digital pen in your hand. “I’m done.”
"It's strange, Mars can't enter this painting."
The black tentacles swirled back and forth in front of the display and even began to tap on it.
“Pfft—” You couldn’t help but laugh out loud, “Maybe because it’s not made of paper.”
With the development of technology, many painters use electronic devices to paint. Compared with traditional painting methods, this is more efficient and faster. It not only better adapts to the needs of modern society, but also makes art more practical.
It seems that Mars cannot travel through electronic paintings.
"What a shame."
You squinted your eyes, smiled, and asked, "Well, what's a pity?"
"You draw so well, but Mars can't go in and take a look."
“…Ahem.” You were a little overwhelmed by the compliment and twirled your fingers through your hair a few times. “It’s not that great. You should have seen more excellent works in art galleries.”
You know clearly that compared with those big guys, your painting skills are not that good, and you can only rely on this technology to make a living. You can't be called an artist, at best you can only be regarded as an art worker.
"Mas subjectively thinks you're better than them all."
"Oh, you also understand the difference between subjective and objective~"
You couldn't help but tease Him.
"Hmph, Namas must know."
The paper man turned his head, and his mouth opened and closed as if he was mumbling something, but you couldn't tell what he was saying from his lip movements.
You asked curiously, "What are you talking about?"
"nothing"
"Dinner is ready! It's getting late, go eat!"
Black tentacles push you out the door.
When you go out, you realize that the house is so clean and tidy that it doesn't seem like your home anymore.
What is this? It looks like a monster with many eyes and tentacles, but is it actually a multifunctional household machine?
Looking at the three dishes and one soup on the table, you said helplessly: "Mas, you don't have to help me do so many things."
Even if He didn't do these things, you wouldn't drive Him away.
"Don't you like it?"
"It's not that I don't like you, it's that I don't know how to repay your kindness to me...how should I put it, care?"
You thought for a long time before you could barely express what you meant.
Mars doesn't need feedback
"Or rather, Mars has received feedback."
"Hmm?" You were a little confused. "What did you gain?"
"Mas can sense your mood."
"If you are happy, I will be happy too."
You were stunned: "Why?"
Why if you are happy, Mars will also feel happy.
"because"
"because"
"because……"
The man in the painting looked a little at a loss. After running around on the grass for a while, he finally stood still as if he had thought of something.
"Because we are friends"
"Yes, didn't you say before that we are friends?"
“…Indeed.”
You really want to say that ordinary friends can't do this.
unless……
Before you could finish the rest of your sentence, you heard the doorbell ring.
…
You suddenly remember that you had made an appointment with a friend and she would come to your house on Sunday.
You quickly grabbed Mars' two black tentacles and decisively stuffed them into the drawing paper.
"Someone will come to the house soon, don't run out!"
