Chapter 98

Genetic Secrets

009 was quiet for a moment, then looked down at the innocent fur balls. He figured he could be a little misunderstood. Their intelligence was still there, though his own had only slightly increased.

I did it twice this time and I'm addicted.

After Mao Tuanzi finished speaking to Wen Ya, he quietly looked up at 009. Then they received 009's aggrieved and slightly resentful look.

The fur balls: "...Aww."

Wen Ya rubbed their little heads, then stood up and said to 009 beside her, "Can I talk to you for a minute?"

009 was silent for a moment, then looked at Wen Ya. Her eyes were sincere. In fact, he was also very curious about her. 009 finally replied, "Okay."

The atmosphere in the room suddenly became serious. The furry balls stopped making trouble and looked up quietly at Wen Ya and 009, although they didn't understand what they were saying at all.

Wen Ya brought 009 to her bedroom. Without asking any more questions, she directly asked 009, "Don't you know the cause of the genetic mutation?"

Wen Ya got straight to the point, and 009 didn't hide it any further: "Yes."

"You don't seem to have changed much?"

After hearing Wen Ya's question, 009's eyes darkened.

He didn't say anything, but stretched out his hand. His hand quickly changed shape, becoming a small, furry deer paw. "It's actually changing."

Seeing the miniature deer feet of 009, Wen Ya fell silent.

He wasn't going to hide it anyway. 009 paused and continued seriously, "It's just that my transformation isn't that fast. I can still maintain my human form for a few days."

"Do you still remember where you came from?" Wen Ya asked.

The interstellar space is too vast, and the origin of alien creatures has always been a mystery. But since 009 said he wanted to take the furry balls away, she had a hunch that 009 must know something.

This time, 009 didn't answer her immediately. He frowned slightly, and finally said softly, "I know a little."

Before Wen Ya could say anything, 009 continued, "Actually, I'm a genetic failure. So my genetic mutation wasn't immediately under their control, and my brain still retains some memories that haven't been erased."

"To be honest, we didn't choose to leave immediately because the aura on you made us feel very comfortable." After 009 finished speaking, he looked down at Wen Ya, "And I think the aura on you also effectively suppressed the speed of our mutation."

009 had said too much, and Wen Ya quietly took it in. Based on what 009 had said, it wasn't hard to guess that these alien creatures were all controlled, or perhaps they were synthetic creations.

Wen Ya frowned: "Do you still remember the address you were at before?"

"Yeah, I have a little impression."

"Do you want to take Maotuanzi back to the previous place?"

"Yes." 009 said with his eyes lowered.

Wen Ya looked up at 009 seriously and said, "Don't leave. If my aura makes you feel comfortable, you can stay here forever. And with your fading strength now, it's not safe outside. I won't let you get hurt."

After hearing what Wen Ya said, 009 was silent for a long time. He had actually considered what Wen Ya said, and the decision he made before was indeed very risky.

He didn't know when he would become like Maotuanzi. If he also had no power, then they would be in greater danger in the universe.

But he discovered that although his kind didn't have much ability to think, they still subconsciously liked Wen Ya so much. 009 suddenly had a hunch that maybe staying was the best choice.

After a while, he said with a choked voice, "Okay."

After Wen Ya and 009 came out of the bedroom, they had a simple breakfast. Because they still had a mission to complete, Wen Ya packed up and prepared to leave. Before leaving, she looked at 009 and said to him, "If you want to go out and play, remember to be careful, otherwise you will probably be caught by the Central Department."

"There are also a lot of snacks and fruits over there, remember to eat them."

After hearing what Wen Ya said, 009 nodded and said, "Okay, I understand."

He didn't know why, but he always felt that Wen Ya's attitude towards him had become much gentler since their conversation. Could it be that his spring was coming?

Just as 009 was feeling inexplicably elated, his eyes suddenly caught sight of Gu Xunli standing beside Wen Ya. Seeing his cold and terrifying gaze, 009's mind suddenly clicked, and he finally realized what was going on.

No, this is not his spring. Spring cannot be used like this.

Shortly after Wen Ya closed the door for them, her smart phone rang. She picked it up and read it. It was a message from the head of the archaeology department, asking her to go to the testing center and conduct some experiments.

Gu Xunli, who was waiting for Wen Ya beside her, felt Wen Ya looking up at him. He asked softly, "What's wrong?"

"I have an appointment with the head of the Archaeology Department to do some testing today, so I won't be able to attend the group gathering for a while." Wen Ya looked up at him and said.

Gu Xunli thought silently for a while, then he took out his smart device, pressed a few buttons, and said, "Then I'll go with you. I've already asked for leave from the team leader."

Wen Ya knew that he was worried about her, so she smiled and squeezed his hand, not refusing: "Let's go, the testing center is not far away."

The Archaeology Department's testing center was a small, unassuming building. Wen Ya had just walked over when she saw a group of people in white protective suits emerge. They were wrapped up tightly, even their faces.

Not long after they left, the head of the Archaeology Department emerged from the inspection building. He was also wearing a white protective suit, but his face was uncovered. He walked hurriedly, looking anxious.

The head of the Archaeology Department also noticed Wen Ya after he came out. He walked to a place not far from Wen Ya, stopped, looked at Wen Ya, and said embarrassedly, "Something happened in the center. I guess we can't do the test today."

"Can I go over and take a look?" Wen Ya replied immediately.

The head of the Archaeology Department thought about it and finally decided: "Okay, come with me."

After he finished speaking, he looked at Gu Xunli who was beside Wen Ya, but in the end he didn't say anything and tacitly let Gu Xunli follow.

Because the testing center was across from the central department, they arrived there in less than three minutes. The central department was heavily guarded at the time, with people in white protective suits standing guard everywhere.

"These are a small defense force sent by the Alliance." The head of the Archaeology Department walked ahead and explained quietly to Wen Ya, "Another virus attacked our defense system this morning, but fortunately we discovered it in time and it didn't cause any major damage."

The archaeology department director finished speaking, and the main entrance to the center opened. The moment it opened, Wen Ya sensed a strong presence. She suspected something else was going on.

The director had no intention of hiding the truth from Wen Ya. As he walked forward, he continued, "The alien creatures in the center have been emotionally unstable since our system was attacked again."

The Archaeology Department Dean had just finished speaking when he heard a violent crash from above. He immediately grabbed his smart device and asked, "What's going on up there... 096? Okay, I got it. I'll be right there."

"I have something to do, so I'll go over first. Someone will come to see you later." The head of the archaeology department said this and left in a hurry.

After the Archaeology Department Dean left, Wen Ya looked around. Gu Xunli was still beside her. They were currently on the third floor of the central building.

Wen Ya discovered that many of the foreign creatures on the third floor had experienced the same genetic degeneration as the little dumplings, but their current condition was much worse than the dumplings'.

Right now, almost all the alien creatures in the center are extremely irritable. I wonder if this is artificially controlled. Wen Ya walked to the outside of another containment room and leaned against the door and window.

The moment she leaned over, Gu Xunli stretched out his hand and covered her forehead to prevent it from directly touching the cold glass.

Through the window, Wen Ya saw the fur ball inside, baring its teeth, looking particularly ferocious. Something seemed particularly wrong.

Seeing these little balls become like this, Wen Ya suddenly became a little worried about the ones at home. Would they also be affected? If several of them broke out at the same time, they would definitely tear down her dormitory.

Just as Wen Ya was worried about the dormitory, she heard footsteps not far away. Wen Ya and Gu Xunli turned around to look. The person approaching was also wearing a white protective suit. Because of her short height, she looked like a girl.

"You must be schoolmate Wen Ya."

"Yes." Wen Ya replied when she heard the man speak.

"Hello, I'm a senior student. You can just call me Senior Sister Chu. The director is busy, and he asked me to take you to see the central department." said the senior sister.

Shortly after the senior student finished speaking, Miss Wen heard a fierce roar of fur balls. She immediately went to check and saw that in a nearby holding room, several fur balls were fighting. The ground was covered with the fur they had torn off from their bodies during the fight.

Perhaps because they were all quite aggressive right now, they were brutally aggressive in their fights. Some were even bruised. Despite this, they didn't stop, and instead, the fight only intensified.

"Why are they fighting so hard?" A senior student also came over. Seeing the fight inside, she frowned and said. At this rate, they'd probably leave each other half-crippled. What kind of hatred or grudge is this?

Wen Ya couldn't bear to watch any longer, so she tried to use her power to quiet them down, but because there was a wall and a containment door between them, her power had no effect on them.

A few of them were still fighting frantically inside. Wen Ya said to the senior student next to her, "Senior, can you open this holding room for me?"

The senior student hesitated a little: "No, it's too dangerous inside."

In the current situation, if the violent foreign creatures escape, the situation will be even worse than it is now.

"I can calm them down." Wen Ya looked at them again. "If they continue fighting like this, they will be seriously injured and may even die."

The senior student was a little skeptical at first, but when she saw how crazy some of the animals inside were, she felt a little sorry for them. She finally opened the door of the holding room for Wen Ya.

Then she saw a scene that made her even more unbelievable. The moment Wen Ya entered, the few that were fighting frantically suddenly quieted down.

From a crazy little Tibetan mastiff to a well-behaved little kitten.

The shocked senior student outside: "?"

Are you really so obedient?
