"Enough!" Lan Yin's expression turned even colder, her voice sounding like it was carrying ice: "Elder, I am now the king, your duty is to assist me, and you don't need to worry about the rest."
Gone was her usual gentle demeanor; Lan Yin now exuded the authority of a superior.
The elder had never been treated like this before, and he asked in a daze, "What... what do you mean?"
“What I mean is,” Lan Yin’s eyes narrowed slightly, her words carrying a hint of threat, “I didn’t want to argue with you before because you were old and had done so much for the merfolk. But everyone’s patience has its limits. If you keep pushing your luck and don’t respect your place, I won’t mind holding an elder election for you.”
Elder election?
The elder's eyes widened.
He's trying to pull him down from his position as elder!
Lan Yin sat back down and said in a deep voice, "Someone, take the elder back."
Hearing the noise, the head guard who had been waiting outside rushed in and stood in front of the elder, saying, "Elder, let me take you back."
The elder glared at him fiercely and cursed, "Who do you think you are, daring to order me around!"
He was of noble status, always second only to the emperor, how could he bear such humiliation today?
The head guard was too lazy to refute him and replied perfunctorily, "Yes, yes, I was just following the king's orders. You should go back and rest."
The head guard grabbed the elder's hand and pulled him forcefully.
The elder shook off his hand and said angrily, "Don't touch me! I'll walk myself!"
He pointed at Lan Yin, not forgetting to utter a harsh threat before leaving: "Lan Yin, you just wait!"
As soon as Qingxun returned, she sensed the awkward atmosphere. She looked at Lanyin and hesitated before asking, "Uncle, what's wrong? Are you unhappy?"
Lan Yin rubbed her temples, looking extremely tired: "I'm fine."
Qingxun glanced around and noticed the shark silk on the ground.
Lan Yin would never carelessly throw away something so important. The only possibility is that someone else lost it.
Among the merfolk, there is only one person with such courage.
She asked somewhat nervously, "Uncle, has the elder come?"
Qingxun knew they didn't get along, but this time things seemed particularly serious.
Lan Yin took the mermaid silk from her hand and smiled gently at her: "Yes, but don't worry too much, go back and rest first."
He didn't want to tell Qingxun these things, as it would put her in a difficult position.
Qingxun lowered her head and tugged at the hem of her clothes.
What's wrong with her today? One after another, they all want her to go home and rest.
Lan Yin patted her head and urged her again.
Qingxun had no choice but to agree.
She turned around, and Lan Yin called her back again: "By the way, there's been a lot going on lately, so be careful when you go to see Wanwan."
The elder had people in the royal palace, and he wasn't sure if Qingxun was also being watched, so he could only give her some instructions.
Qingxun blinked: "Is it because of the elders?"
Lan Yin nodded.
"I understand, I'll try to go less often these days," Qingxun replied obediently.
If Wanwan is discovered because of her, she will feel guilty for the rest of her life.
"Should I tell Wanwan about this and tell her to be careful too?"
Lan Yin thought for a moment, then shook her head: "We don't need to tell her for now."
The little female was already living in fear on the seabed, and he didn't want to make her even more afraid.
"Go."
For safety reasons, Lanyin later reduced the number of times she went to Wanwan's place.
On one occasion, in order to test the waters, he deliberately did not sneak out of the palace, but instead left openly.
Not long after he left, Lan Yin noticed that someone was following him. He did not make any rash moves, but silently quickened his pace. When he passed a patch of waterweeds, he suddenly disappeared.
The mermaid who followed him searched around for a long time but couldn't find him, and finally chose to swim in the wrong direction.
Yu Wanwan was staring blankly at the fishbone.
The mere thought of using it to hurt Lanyin fills me with resistance.
"Wanwan, Wanwan!"
Yu Wanwan was stunned for a moment, then came to her senses and realized that Lan Yin was standing behind her, looking at her strangely: "Wanwan, what's wrong with you? I've been calling you and you haven't responded."
"No." Yu Wanwan remembered the fishbone in her hand and hurriedly pulled the blanket over to hide it.
However, her action was unnecessary, as Lan Yin had already seen it clearly.
He pointed to the fishbone under the blanket: "Wanwan, where did you get this? What are you going to do with it?"
Caught red-handed, Yu Wanwan panicked even more, her face turning red with tension.
"It's nothing, I just... used it to fix the seashell flowers." She took out a bunch of pure white seashell flowers and held them up in front of Lan Yin: "Look, I've fixed them."
This excuse was so lame that even Yu Wanwan herself didn't believe it.
Lan Yin glanced at the bouquet of flowers, then at Yu Wanwan, and took the bouquet from her hand, smiling gently: "Thank you, you've worked hard."
He seemed to have truly believed in himself. Yu Wanwan pursed her lips and raised her hand to wipe her forehead.
She was so nervous that she started sweating!
Lan Yin gently placed the flowers aside, then sat down at the table, her eyes, like scattered stars, looking expectantly at Yu Wanwan: "Wanwan, could you massage my temples?"
He's been really tired lately and has been trying to relieve his headaches by following the methods Yu Wanwan taught him, but no matter what he does, his head still hurts and he feels uncomfortable.
"Okay." Yu Wanwan quickly agreed and stood behind him, gently massaging him.
