Chapter 270 A Promise That Will Never Be Fulfilled

Chu Lin looked into the distance, mimicking her gaze, and said softly, "Actually, my beast mother is a golden lion, and I am also a golden lion, but my beast father is a sika deer. Wanwan, do you know what this means?"

His words immediately reminded Yu Wanwan of Wangye. He was also disliked in the tribe from birth because the beast mother chose a male weaker than herself.

But Yu Wanwan never expected that Chu Lin would be in the same situation.

"The current Beast King is actually my uncle. He adopted me, but he also looks down on me."

“My people thought I was a disgrace and didn’t want me to stay in the palace, so they tricked me into going out and threw me into a deep pit. I thought I was going to die, but then I met you.”

It was Yu Wanwan who saved him, giving him hope to live. She became his courage to return to the palace and the driving force for him to keep climbing the social ladder.

Chu Lin looked at Yu Wanwan and actually saw pity on her face. He laughed and said, "Don't look at me like that. Aren't I doing very well now?"

Although the little female felt sorry for him and made him happy, as a male, he neither liked nor needed such a look.

Yu Wanwan nodded, her sympathetic gaze quickly turning into encouragement: "Yes, you're doing very well now, and you'll be even stronger in the future. You'll be able to protect yourself, so even if I leave, I can rest assured."

Chu Lin was stunned; the warm feeling that had just welled up in his heart quickly faded. He didn't even realize that his hands were trembling slightly: "You said... you're leaving?"

Yu Wanwan hummed in agreement: "That's what I wanted to talk to you about today."

"Why, why did you leave?" His voice was filled with panic, as if his heart had been ripped out and thrown into a pool of bitterness, making his limbs and bones ache.

Yu Wanwan hugged her knees, lowered her eyes, completely immersed in her own world, and murmured, "Because the mission is complete, I don't belong here anymore, I have to go back to where I belong."

She'll be going home after today.

Chu Lin dropped the grilled meat in her hand, grabbed her wrist tightly, and looked at her pleadingly: "Wanwan, can you not go?"

He was not yet an adult, had not yet had the chance to propose to her, and had not even had the chance to say "I like you".

Yu Wanwan looked up at him, amused, and asked, "What's wrong? You're reluctant to part with me?"

Chu Lin nodded, her eyes already slightly red.

Yu Wanwan patted his head, pressing down the strand of golden hair that stood up, just like before: "No, my home isn't here. If I don't go back, my family will worry."

Chu Lin gripped her tightly, so tightly that Yu Wanwan felt a little pain: "Please, don't go."

Even if it's just for him, can't I stay?

He can be her family, and when she grows up—no, she doesn't even need to grow up—he can protect her now. He will give her the best life, bring her under his control, and no one will dare to bully her anymore.

Unfortunately, in front of Yu Wanwan, he was still just a child. She took his words as a child's joke, and his affection as a younger brother's reluctance to part with his older sister or a friend, rather than romantic feelings.

Yu Wanwan took out a handkerchief and wiped the grease from the corner of his mouth, her words gentle and tender: "Chu Lin, you're just young now and haven't met many people, which is why you say such things. When you grow up, you will meet someone who will truly accompany you for a lifetime, and you will understand that some people are just temporary encounters, so there's no need to be too sad. I'm already very happy to have met you."

Yu Wanwan's original intention was to persuade him not to be too sad because of her departure, but who knew that the more she talked, the more strange Chu Lin's expression became, and in the end it even revealed a kind of madness and sadness.

He held Yu Wanwan tightly, like a drowning person clutching their last straw.

Yu Wanwan could hardly breathe from his embrace, but Chu Lin was in a rebellious phase, so she didn't resist and let him hold her, gently patting his back to comfort him.

"Don't go, don't go." He repeated this phrase over and over, each word filled with pleading.

Chu Lin simply couldn't accept it. He had returned to the palace for her sake, and every scar on his body was only able to endure because of her.

He originally thought that as long as he rescued Yu Wanwan, everything would be fine, but now this person is telling him that he is leaving.

How cruel! She even said it was just a brief encounter! He didn't want such a brief encounter, and he didn't want to meet someone to spend his whole life with. Wasn't it enough for him to just have her?

Chu Lin let go of her, but grabbed her shoulders tightly. He had completely lost control of his emotions, and tears streamed down his face. "Then please take me with you. Don't leave me alone."

If it weren't for Yu Wanwan, he wouldn't have stayed here. The Beast King Palace was too cold and dangerous. If it weren't for Yu Wanwan, he wouldn't have been able to endure even a day here.

His innocent words amused Yu Wanwan. She wiped away his tears and pinched his cheek: "What nonsense are you talking about? You are still a prince, and your family is all here."

Moreover, he was able to return to the palace, have his current status, and be recognized by the Beast King. Yu Wanwan could not even imagine the effort he had put in.

"I don't want to! I don't want to!"

No matter what Yu Wanwan said, Chu Lin refused to listen.

He looks a lot like the little neighbor boy she used to play with. He was unwilling to part ways, clingy and stubborn, and insisted on going home with her.
