MP3 [Bug Fix]
Xu Changjia took her to a milk tea shop near the school and bought two pieces of tiramisu from the bakery next door. He pushed them in front of her and said, "Yaoyao, the MP3 is the first gift I've given you. There will be a second and a third one in the future. Here, try this and see if it's sweet."
But she kept muttering, "But Jiajia, I really like that MP3 player."
She finally managed to distract herself, but a single sentence brought her back to reality. Seeing that she couldn't comfort the girl with the gloomy face, she could only keep her company by chatting and listening to her beloved MP3 player while waiting for the final exam results.
The next day, the two went their separate ways. Ou Liyao rested at home for a day to await her final exam results. She tossed and turned in bed, unsure whether to sleep or not. Maybe she should...
She sat up in bed, tossed the doll she was holding aside, climbed into the chair, sat down at her desk, and turned on her computer to search for the novel she hadn't finished reading at school a couple of days ago.
Even dinner was just a quick bite before I went back to my room to read. Finishing one book wasn't enough, so I searched for other novels of the same genre online. From sunrise to sunset, a whole day and night passed, and I was still engrossed. I finally fell asleep at my computer desk.
The ringing of her phone startled her awake. It was Xu Changjia calling to remind her not to forget to pick up her report card at school today.
Thankfully, she had that life-saving phone number; otherwise, she would have been late. She quickly wiped her face, changed her clothes, grabbed her backpack, and took a taxi to school. She arrived at the classroom at exactly 8:00, not late. Panting, she sat down in her seat, fanning herself with her hand with some difficulty. When she turned around and put down her backpack, she saw Zhang Yuning's cold gaze, and a bad feeling crept into her heart.
Holding the scalding report card in her hand, she lowered her head several times more than usual, as if a gaze from behind was burning her with pain. She couldn't even hear how much homework the homeroom teacher had assigned. Suddenly, she felt a pang of regret. She hadn't studied properly before the final exams and had become so engrossed in novels that her grades had plummeted from the top 30 in the grade to over 100.
After assigning the tasks for this winter break, Teacher Wang called Ou Liyao out for a talk. Her words were full of probing questions about why she hadn't done well on the test, and she also told her to do better next time and not to be discouraged. What could Ou Liyao say? She could only nod repeatedly in agreement, indicating that she would do better next time.
As soon as the bell rang, Xu Changjia from the humanities class came over. Seeing the coldness in Zhang Yuning's eyes and her gaze falling on Ou Liyao, who dared not look directly at anyone, she knew that Zhang Yuning was disappointed in her. Her tone immediately turned cold as well, "What score did you get? What was your ranking?"
The person sitting in the seat trembled as she handed over her report card. Looking back, her name, Ou Liyao, was second place, ranked 137th in the grade, with a total score of 501. She sneered, "Good, very good, excellent."
The student who usually scored over 600 points only scored 500 points on the final exam this time. The two of them stared intently at the back of Ou Liyao's head, as if trying to see a hole in it, until everyone in the classroom had left. Only then did the student, who had made a mistake, smile apologetically and beg for their forgiveness.
The person in the back seat closed their comic book and forced a smile along with her. "I'll just say one thing: I like reading comics, but it has never prevented me from getting first place in my exams. Ou Liyao, you should look for the reason within yourself."
"I..." She was indeed a little ashamed, and lowered her head, hugging the arm of the person in front of her, begging for her forgiveness.
Xu Changjia pulled his hand back and spoke to her so seriously for the first time: "Yaoyao, the college entrance examination is very important. You have to control yourself. I don't need to tell you which is more important, novels or the college entrance examination, right?"
After speaking, Xu Changjia and Zhang Yuning walked out of the classroom one after the other. A new MP3 player and an old MP3 player were placed on the corner of her desk at the same time, leaving her sighing and her vision blurred. Tears dripped onto the 501 on her report card, which was particularly glaring.
Everyone in the classroom had left, and she sat there quietly, reflecting on her actions over the past few days. It seemed that it really wasn't something a student should do, but what was wrong with simply enjoying reading novels? The values and love stories of those fictional characters had entered her mind, giving her spiritual comfort and solace. She truly loved them; how could they not understand?
It's one thing if others don't understand, but why can't Xu Changjia forgive her? And Zhang Yuning, he reads comics every day, he should be able to empathize with her.
But the two people outside the door didn't go far; they stood at the top of the stairs waiting for her to come out. "Zhang, the academic genius, isn't this a bit inappropriate? Can Yao Yao resist the temptation of novels?"
He shook his head to indicate that he didn't know, because he had never been bothered by such a thing before.
He was intelligent from a young age, and learning was a comfort zone for him. He could memorize anything he read at a glance, and he grasped logical thinking instantly. Therefore, getting high scores, even full marks, on exams was a piece of cake for him. However, after the Zheng Ruoqian incident, he realized that everyone has their own strengths, ideas, and hobbies. He couldn't impose his own standards on others, so he didn't say this out loud.
He simply said, "If she can't quit reading novels and it affects her studies, then we'll pull her back and help her break this addiction."
As they were talking, a pair of little leather shoes came into their view. Looking up, they saw that her face was flushed and her eyes were tinged with red, but she dared not look directly at them.
Zhang Yuning coughed lightly and turned her head away. "Come to Ruqi Bookstore for tutoring and homework every Saturday and Sunday, from 10 am to 6 pm. No lateness allowed."
The holiday was only thirty-five days long, and taking ten days out to do homework and catch up on lessons wasn't much, but she still couldn't help but sigh and force a smile. After all, she only got 500 points. "Okay, I'll go. Thanks to Professor Zhang for helping me with my lessons."
During the few days she was taking extra classes, Xu Changjia didn't sit idle either. She would carry her little schoolbag and winter vacation homework to the bookstore, and occasionally bring some cookies baked by Aunt Chen.
On the third day of class, Zhang Yuning had already finished his holiday homework and was now watching the two of them do their tests while he read comic books. He would check their work every hour he did his homework and then give them a short talk about the mistakes they made. He had originally saved up over a dozen comic books to read during these few days of class, and he had already read most of them.
He finished reading this book and was about to start a new one when he glanced at it and saw that the restless Ou Liyao wasn't doing her homework properly. Instead, she was drawing little figures in her physics textbook. It was a boy and a girl holding hands, and if they got any closer, they would kiss. He couldn't help but chuckle.
Noticing the commotion, she quickly covered the physics book with both hands, saying, "Don't look, don't look."
Sitting opposite her, Xu Changjia leaned closer, pried open her hands, and a smile appeared on his face. "Hey Yao Yao, you're here, but your mind's still on the novel, aren't you?"
She was so bored after writing exam papers all day that she slumped onto the table, holding her head in her hands, her tone not very cheerful. "I have two MP3 players now. The new one only has the college entrance exam English listening comprehension section on it, which I often play. The other one, I don't even dare to touch. I know it has novels and music on it. It just sits on the table, like it has grown hands and feet, constantly jumping around in front of me, trying to tempt me to touch it."
"You have no idea how much I've been pent up these past few days." She couldn't help but start scratching her head. It's been more than ten days of vacation and she hasn't read any novels. In order to stop thinking about them every day, she just scribbled and drew. She actually learned to draw the male and female protagonists in novels without any teacher. All the plots that her eyes had seen entered her mind.
Xu Changjia took her physics textbook and flipped through it. Almost every page of the book was covered with little figures drawn in black pen, which looked quite lifelike. "Yaoyao, not bad! It's only been a few days, and you've already filled an entire physics book with drawings. These little figures are quite well drawn."
Another person who knew about painting also got up and came over to take a look. "It's really good. You do have some talent."
Giving up novels can only be done gradually; these ten days or so are not enough. Simply forbidding her from reading them won't work either. He added, "If you do another math test today and correct all the mistakes, you can read a novel for an hour."
Ou Liyao, who was lying on the table, seemed to have been injected with chicken blood. She immediately became motivated to do the problems. She sat up straight and finished the entire math test in less than an hour. After he looked at it, there were only three or five wrong questions. He could quickly find the direction to correct them with a little guidance. He felt that she was a very teachable person.
He glanced at Xu Changjia's watch out of the corner of his eye; it was four o'clock. "Alright, that's enough for today. Remember, you're only allowed one hour." With that, he went out to buy coffee for the two serious people.
When they pushed aside the wall of books, the two noticed that he was carrying two pieces of tiramisu, saying that the coffee shop had just made some that day, so he bought them on a whim.
The box had just been opened when Zhang Yuning's phone rang. He put it on speakerphone so the other two could hear the voice on the other end. "Hello."
The three people on the other side were teasing him, each greeting him in a different language, "Long time no see, Zheng Ruoqian."
A clear voice came from the other end of the phone, greeting everyone in turn, "Xu Changjia, Ou Liyao, Zhang Yuning, long time no see."
He has been practicing hard day and night these days and has already stood out from the group of trainees. He has entered a new trainee period and will be able to make it big in a few years and stand on a bigger stage.
He finally managed to find some time to call Zhang Yuning, and to his surprise, all three of them were there. Listening to their greetings, he felt inexplicably filled with strength, which gave him the motivation to continue training in H country and pursue his musical dream.
After hanging up the phone, Zheng Ruoqian lay on the floor of the training room, calmed himself for 100 seconds, counted to 100, and then got up to continue training.
Meanwhile, the other three people's eyes were fixed on the MP3 player that had just been taken out. Zhang Yuning's finger touched Xu Changjia's wrist, and she quickly grabbed the MP3 player in her hand, refusing to let go, "I've only been watching it for more than ten minutes, the time is not up yet."
Xu Changjia patted her little head, "Okay then, you can take it home to read, but we won't be here, so you have to keep track of the time yourself."
Ou Liyao cautiously looked at the person opposite her again, only to see Zhang Yuning nod and say "Mm". "Remember to finish your homework. I want to see you pass the exam after school starts."
She was overjoyed. As long as she could continue reading novels, that was fine. As for the exams, she would study hard. She was confident she could score 600 points, so she wasn't worried about failing.
