School starts

School starts

Mr. Xu returned home weary from his journey, only because Mrs. Xu had called him repeatedly to tell him that their daughter's middle school entrance exam results were mediocre, and that Jiajia was in a bad mood and needed them to spend more time with her.

He readjusted his expression, washed his hands, and then sat down at the dining table to eat with his daughter.

Xu Changjia's gaze followed his father from the living room to the dining table. When his father sat down opposite him, he felt a little awkward and slowed down his eating. However, his eyes kept drifting towards his father, whom he hadn't spoken much to in two lifetimes.

The word "Dad" stuck in my throat; I just couldn't bring myself to say it.

Because in her past life, she didn't communicate much with her father. She could freely make all sorts of demands in front of her mother, but when facing her father, she naturally felt a sense of authority, and her happy feelings seemed to be suppressed. She would just chat in a routine manner, reporting on her various things at school, and all she would get in return were a few words like "I know" and "Hmm".

Even during the last time she met him for a meal, she had a severe cold and couldn't speak, and didn't hear a single word of concern from her father.

Unexpectedly, Mr. Xu used the serving chopsticks on the side to pick up a piece of fish for her and started a conversation, "Jiajia, when does school start?"

She hurriedly put down her bowl, thought for a moment, and picked out the information her father wanted from the video in her memory notebook: "9, September 20th. The 20th and 21st are the reporting dates, and military training starts on the 22nd."

Mr. Xu nodded and took the bowl and chopsticks from Aunt Chen, along with another portion of food that had been left for him.

He watched the petite girl across from him quietly eating her rice and began to wonder if he and Xiyan had really given their daughter too little love on a daily basis, which had led to her becoming so taciturn.

As parents, they don't even know what their daughter likes to eat or where she likes to go on weekdays. They probably know Aunt Chen better than they do as her father.

Mr. Xu ate his meal absentmindedly. The little girl across from him hesitated for a long time before putting down her chopsticks and saying with difficulty, "Dad, I'm finished eating. I'm going to go back to my room to read."

She had just stood up when she saw her father across from her beckoning, "Sit down and chat with your dad."

Her stiff body spoke volumes about her inexplicable feelings at that moment.

Chatting? What are you going to talk about?

Mr. Xu picked up another piece of fish with his chopsticks and then asked her what books she was reading, what she had done that day, and other similar questions.

Just like in her previous life, she responded to each question. Occasionally, when her memories became confused, she would hesitate for a moment and ask the memory book for help, which her father found fascinating.

It's truly rare to see such a rich variety of expressions on my daughter's face after talking to her for so long.

Xu Changjia was a little tired, and a hint of exhaustion appeared on her face. She stared intently at the actions across the table until she saw her father swallow the last bite of rice with fish soup. Only then did a look of relief appear on her face.

As he stood up again, he heard a voice behind him say, "On September 20th, your mother and I will take you to Junzhou No. 1 Middle School for registration."

Mr. Xu clearly saw his daughter's shoulders twitch twice, and her steps faltered. The next second, he heard a weak "okay" from her, as if he felt that Jiajia was showing some vitality and was doing well.

Jiajia?

How long has it been since he called his daughter by her nickname like that?

Xu Changjia closed the door, leaned against it, and took several deep breaths. She had received too much information today and needed to catch her breath.

She took out all the workbooks and tutoring books she had bought that day and neatly stacked them on the bookshelf. Following her habit from memory, she pulled out a small notebook from the gap in the second-tier bookshelf and started writing and drawing.

"Ding-dong..."

As soon as she wrote the word "rebirth" in her notebook, her memories resurfaced, informing her that the little boy she had met that day was indeed one of the stars she was meant to save.

Will I run into him again?

"Yes, host, after you go to Junzhou No.1 High School, you will meet all the stars you need to save, but there is one star that is special."

She wanted to ask something more, but her memory fell silent again.

The clock on the wall pointed to 9:30. There was a knock on the door, and Aunt Chen brought her milk. "Jiajia, it's getting late. Drink your milk and go to sleep, or your mother will definitely nag you when she gets back."

"good."

She drank the milk in one gulp, and Aunt Chen's smile looked even more kind. She smiled as she took the cup from her hand, turned off the light, and carefully went out.

May you sleep well tonight.

When she woke up again, she was still not used to her body as a 15-year-old girl. It was as if she was a little panicked to suddenly return to a crowd after being alone for a long time. Fortunately, she had more than two months to adapt.

Every day, she would read books, do some practice questions, memorize a couple of lines of classical poetry, and write a couple of words. Watching her parents come and go outside the room, and Aunt Chen bustling around in the kitchen, day after day, her time quietly slipped away.

HX2115 September 20 Junzhou No.1 Middle School

Accompanied by her parents, Xu Changjia arrived at the place where she would spend her three years of high school life, the same place where she had spent three ordinary years in her previous life.

The physics she couldn't understand, the math formulas she couldn't decipher, and the fact that no one cared about her report card caused her grades to plummet, and she barely managed to get into a third-tier university.

Mr. Xu parked the car at the school gate and called to his daughter, who was staring blankly at the gate of Junzhou No. 1 Middle School, "Jiajia, go and register with your mother first. I'll come find you with my luggage after I park the car."

"Oh, okay."

Xu's mother led her into the school, and guided by the signs and large red banners, they successfully found the registration office and handed over the necessary items to the senior student in front of them.

The senior student took her admission notice, matched it with her own form, and successfully found her information. "Here, Xu Changjia, Class 365, Dormitory 2408, sign these places."

Xu's mother took the schoolbag from her shoulder to make it easier for her daughter to sign, and then chatted with the students across from the reception desk, quickly getting a clear understanding of the school's situation.

After they signed, the senior student took back the forms and tore off a receipt for them. "Take this, walk straight to the end of this road, turn right to the Student Affairs Office to pay your tuition, and then you can come back to get your dormitory keys and move your things."

The mother and daughter smiled and thanked them, then huddled together to look at the receipt. They didn't notice the commotion on the other side, but they heard the girl scream.

"Ah...ah...ah..."

"Make way, everyone make way!"

Before Xu Changjia and her mother could dodge, a white suitcase carrying a girl in a yellow shirt and two braids knocked them over.

Her mother was helped up by one of the older students who had just greeted them, and was not seriously injured. However, she was not yet fully integrated with her 15-year-old body, and the impact caused her to fall flat on her face, along with the suitcase and the girl, onto the yellowish grass on the side.

When Mr. Xu found them pushing his suitcase, he saw this chaotic scene and his face immediately darkened.

Knowing he was in the wrong, the "culprit" patted his behind and quickly helped her up, still somewhat guilty, "Are you alright?"

With her help, Xu Changjia got up. He felt pain all over his body, but seeing the sincerity and heartache in her eyes, he held back and shook his head, "I'm fine."

Mr. Xu threw the suitcase aside and, together with Mrs. Xu, jogged over to pull their daughter back from the girl's arms. They checked her over from head to toe, finding that her wrists and ankles were scraped and that she had some injuries on her forehead. They immediately wanted to take her to the hospital.

The girl's parents also came forward with smiles to apologize, saying that they would cover all the medical expenses, and that the girl was just being playful and they hoped they wouldn't hold it against them anymore.

Xu's mother was heartbroken that her daughter had taken such a big fall on her first day of school. She went all out and gave the family of three a good scolding. Xu's father was not to be outdone and accused them of not teaching their daughter well.

Students and parents passing by gathered around to watch the excitement, and Xu Changjia was quickly pushed to the back by their frenzy, his hands and knees still a little sore.

"Ding dong, host, the girl in front of you, Ou Liyao, is one of the stars you need to save. You need to help her shine brightly."

Her eyes lit up. They were friends, not enemies. Ignoring her physical pain, she squeezed next to Mr. and Mrs. Xu and gently took her mother's arm. Mrs. Xu didn't pay much attention at first, but she had to get an explanation from that family today.

Then she heard a soft "Mom," and Xu's mother turned around and saw her daughter standing awkwardly in the crowd. She felt very sorry for her.

Holding her daughter's hand, she gestured for Jiajia's father to stop arguing with that family, as their daughter's injury was more important.

The family that had caused the trouble saw that the car had stopped, and they looked at each other, exchanging glances, before following them. They heard the injured little girl say to her parents, "Mom, Dad, I'm not seriously hurt. Don't hold it against them, even though you meant well."

Mr. and Mrs. Xu were both taken aback. They knew that their daughter was usually not good with words and would not take the initiative to make requests of them. She would keep things to herself. This was the first time they had ever heard her open her mouth and agree so readily.

Xu's mother leaned down and asked her, "Jiajia, let your father pay your tuition. I'll take you to the hospital first, okay?"

The little girl behind her quickly stepped forward and seized the opportunity, "Auntie, I know where the infirmary is. I can take her there to get bandaged up, as an apology for what happened earlier."

Xu's mother didn't say anything, but just looked at her daughter. When she saw her daughter nod, her anger towards the family of three subsided considerably.

Well, let's just consider that argument a case of "no fight, no friendship," and it's good that Jiajia made a friend.

Ou Liyao visibly cheered up, and holding Xu Changjia's hand, she chattered away as they headed towards the infirmary. The four adults behind them exchanged glances and then began another round of friendly greetings.
