senior

senior

At 9:30 pm, in the small square near the south gate of Junzhou No.1 Middle School

They had just finished evening self-study and were walking slowly, passing through mountains of books and seas of learning. They saw many senior students standing under the streetlights reciting their lessons.

Looking up at the teaching building, the bright lights never went out, illuminating the future of thousands of students. The figures of students writing furiously swayed, but they swayed into Xu Changjia's heart.

In her past life, she was always in a hurry, like a passerby in the world, never noticing these details, and never knowing that Junzhou No. 1 Middle School, where she was, was so vibrant.

They are hardworking, they are vibrant, they are ambitious, so they deserve to be admitted to a top-tier university.

And her? She was simply immersed in her own little world, stuck in her ways, and never took a single step out until her death.

"Jiajia, look over there, isn't someone dancing under the Confucius statue? Zhang Yuning and Zheng Ruoqian must have arranged to meet there."

Xu Changjia looked in the direction she was pointing and said, "It seems so." Then he turned his smiling eyes to Ou Liyao. In this life, someone had pulled her out of the shadows, into the sunlight, and into this world that needed mending and repair.

She was led slowly toward the statue of Confucius, where a large crowd had already gathered. From afar, she could hear the loud DJ music and the crackling of applause.

Ou Liyao pulled her through the crowd, calling out as they went, "Excuse me, excuse me, we have difficulty moving around, could you please give us a place?"

The upperclassmen had seen street dance before, and they made way for the dancers they wanted to see after they finished their performance.

They arrived at just the right time. The people about to take the stage were none other than Zhang Yuning and Zheng Ruoqian, who had arranged to meet them there. Upon seeing them, they waved to them across the crowd.

Zheng Ruoqian switched the sound system to a catchy English song, then slid into Zhang Yuning's group with a wave. The two high-fived, jumped up face to face, and didn't forget to respond to Ou Liyao, drawing thunderous applause from the audience.

As the two switched positions, Zheng Ruoqian nodded and smiled at them. It was Ou Liyao's first time seeing such a performance, and she was a little excited. She was very active offstage and pulled Xu Changjia to interact with them.

Zhang Yuning also noticed the commotion, personally went down and gave both of them a high-five, then returned to the group.

The girl next to them, having failed to high-five the handsome guy, came over to ask them about the two boys dancing, and arrogantly asked if they knew them.

Xu Changjia was not good at socializing, so he moved closer to Ou Liyao without saying a word. Besides, they had just bumped into her, so he was even less inclined to talk to them.

Ou Liyao was immersed in their dance, but she still noticed the strangeness of the people around her.

She diverted some of her attention to Xu Changjia, pulled her closer, and held her hand, swaying it rhythmically, but not daring to make the movements too large.

When the girl next to her came closer again, she stepped on Ou Liyao's foot. Her displeasure was evident on her face, and her good mood for watching street dance was instantly ruined.

How could someone be so rude, not only pushing and shoving in their direction, but also stepping on them, without even apologizing?

Xu Changjia grasped her hand in return, diverting her attention with Zheng Ruoqian and Zhang Yuning's dance, "Look, someone else is coming on stage."

Zheng Ruoqian and Zhang Yuning stepped aside to make way for the center position. As the chorus of the English song began, a senior student who had just finished performing smoothly entered the stage, bringing the street dance atmosphere to a climax. Every move was perfectly timed and full of rhythm. The people in the circle unconsciously started to move their bodies along with them. Finally, the three of them ended the dance with a very cool and stylish ending pose.

The senior student caught a glimpse of the girl with the loudest voice out of the corner of his eye and couldn't help but glance at her a couple more times.

The two girls, excitedly shouting, squeezed right in front of Xu Changjia and Ou Liyao, jumping and interacting with them. They not only stepped on them, but also hit them with their outstretched hands. Finally, during the ending pose of the three boys dancing, they slapped Xu Changjia on the left cheek.

She instinctively covered her left cheek. Ou Liyao immediately exploded, grabbing the girl's waving right hand with one hand and gently patting her with the other to indicate that she was alright.

The two girls in front of them were also puzzled. Why would someone spoil the fun of watching street dance?

He turned around, ready to unleash a torrent of abuse, but seeing the tall man's arrogant demeanor, his words softened: "Why are you grabbing my hand?"

“Apologize.” Ou Liyao’s deep voice was somewhat intimidating.

The two girls noticed the person standing next to her and were somewhat dissatisfied. He hadn't answered their questions earlier, but now he was pretending to be pitiful. They glanced away and ignored Ou Liyao.

Xu Changjia covered her face, looking at Ou Liyao with eyes full of admiration. It felt really good to have someone backing her up. She immediately straightened her back. It was their fault, and they were the ones who should apologize.

The trio who had just finished dancing also noticed the unusual commotion and came over with their empty water bottles. Zheng Ruoqian immediately noticed that half of Ou Liyao's cheeks were red, and when he saw Ou Liyao holding the hand of a girl he didn't recognize, he understood everything.

He switched the water bottle to his other hand, whispered something in Zhang Yuning's ear, and then walked towards the speakers.

Before Zhang Yuning could speak, the senior who had just danced with them took two steps forward. Although he was smiling, his face held a sharp edge. "If you hit someone, apologize. At least show your attitude, right? Besides, this person came from another school. Do you want to get a demerit?"

Upon hearing his senior's words, Zhang Yuning knew that he must have seen Xu Changjia being beaten, and echoed, "I saw what you were doing. Should we call security?"

The people around initially didn't know what had happened, thinking it was just a minor squabble between a few girls. But when they heard it escalated to the point of hitting someone and calling security, they started talking all at once, pointing and criticizing the two girls.

The two girls from another school were only fifteen or sixteen years old, so they were naturally unable to handle such a scene. They bent down, lowered their heads, apologized to Xu Changjia in a low voice, and squeezed out of the crowd and ran towards the school gate, running all the way out of Junzhou No.1 Middle School.

Once the dance group saw that the dance was over and the excitement had died down, the people who had been surrounding the street dance club dispersed.

The sound system and other equipment were taken away by the members of the street dance club after they had spoken to the senior. Suddenly, only the four of them remained, along with the senior who had just spoken up for them.

Zheng Ruoqian jogged back, carrying a bag in his hand. He greeted the club members who had just left before heading straight towards the four people who were there.

A cool towel was handed from his hand to Xu Changjia's. "Put it on an ice pack first to reduce the swelling." The rest of the bag was given to Ou Liyao; the instructions for use were inside, so there was no need to explain them specifically.

Then he turned his gaze to Zhang Yuning, "Is that all?"

Zhang Yuning leaned her right hand on him, nonchalantly saying, "It wasn't a big deal to begin with, but you still gave me special instructions."

"By the way, this is our Junzhou No. 1 High School's academic genius—Wen Xuanyi. He holds our high school's record for the highest college entrance examination score for twelve consecutive years, with 745 points. He was also our top scorer in the college entrance examination for the past two years. Everyone should get to know him."

Ou Liyao put the bag over her hand, looked at her swollen face, and gently blew on it, her heart aching. "Jiajia, are you feeling better?"

"I'm not in pain anymore, thank you, Yao Yao." Thank you for letting me know the warmth of having someone behind me, thank you for showing me the colors of this world.

Her voice was very soft and gentle, but Ou Liyao still heard it. Her smile widened. Hearing that a top student had arrived, she really felt that high school life was wonderful!

He kept asking them questions, and Xu Changjia was also infected by this atmosphere. He forgot his previous unpleasantness, and the burning discomfort on his face subsided after applying ice.

A genius?

It seems like he's never appeared in her life.

"Ding dong, host, we have detected that Wen Xuanyi is the fourth star you need to save. Please continue to help him get on the right track."

Xu Changjia shook her head. The person was already the top scorer in the college entrance examination. What else did he need her help with?

Her gaze swept over the four people present: Ou Liyao, the little sun of humanity; Zheng Ruoqian, the artistic youth; Zhang Yuning, the school heartthrob of the street dance club; and now there was a top student senior. Were these four of the five stars she was going to save?

They are all so outstanding and live so freely, what can she, an ordinary nobody, possibly do to help them?

"Jiajia, the senior student in charge of literature just said that during military training, you can take your books to a shady spot to read, and you can also get your meals earlier."

"Really? Then tell me what you want to eat, and I'll go to the cafeteria to save you seats and get your food."

Zhang Yuning continued, "That's great, thank you, Xu Changjia. From now on, Wen-ge will protect you at No. 1 Middle School. You can't be bullied like before and then stay silent."

"Okay." She didn't say anything more, after all, no one wanted to talk about such things.

Zheng Ruoqian then brought the topic back to Junzhou No.1 Middle School. From the senior student, they learned that the monthly exams would come soon after the military training. This was a long-standing tradition at the school: monthly exams, midterm exams, another monthly exam, plus the final exam. This was their comprehensive grade for the semester, designed to help them get used to university credits and GPA in advance.

Another issue that everyone is concerned about is the holiday!

The first-year high school students get a day and a half off every week. When they get to the second year, they get a day and a half off every two weeks. The third year, they get two days off every month, and spend the rest of the time studying.

Wen Xuanyi told them to take the college entrance examination seriously and to lay a solid foundation in their first and second years of high school. Before they knew it, it was time to turn off the lights and close the dormitory doors.
