Unexplained phone call

Unexplained phone call

Nanqi waved her hand over Song Zhao's head as if casting some kind of magic, "Forget it, forget it, you'll forget it after today, and only remember the good things about me."

Song Zhao grasped her hand and chuckled, "Okay, I'm not angry anymore."

Just as Nanqi was happy, Song Zhao changed the subject: "But I will still write it down in a little notebook so that I can bring up old grievances next time we quarrel."

"How could you do this to me! You're the one who made me angry!"

Nanqi raised an eyebrow, then hugged Song Zhao and started tickling her. Song Zhao wasn't very sensitive, and she wouldn't react no matter how others tickled her in the same spot. But when Nanqi pinched her, she couldn't stop laughing. However, Nanqi's grip was indeed stronger than others.

"Ah... I can't take it..." Song Zhao pleaded with a smile.

"Do you still remember the notebook? Do you still remember the notebook?"

"Oh dear... I'm not going to write it down anymore, I'm not going to write it down anymore..."

Nanqi then stopped, smiling as she pulled Song Zhao into her arms. Song Zhao was supporting her, panting heavily, when her phone suddenly rang.

She took it out and saw it was an unfamiliar number. Thinking it was a spam call, she hung up.

Just as the two were about to get intimate, the number called again a short while later.

"Who is it that's always spoiling the mood?" Nanqi said angrily.

"It's a nuisance call."

“Here, give me the phone, I’ll curse him out for you,” Nanqi said.

Without hesitation, Song Zhao handed over the phone.

"Hey! Who are you?!"

"..."

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone.

"I'm asking you, who are you?!" Nanqi said impatiently.

There was a pause on the other end of the phone, "...Who are you?"

"You still ask me who I am! You called me, and you still ask me who I am? What business is it of yours who I am!"

Nanqi muttered "Damn it" under her breath, then continued, "I don't care if you sell insurance, health products, or are a scammer, I'm telling you, don't call this number again. I'm not going to let you succeed. Judging from your voice, you're not very old, and your speaking skills aren't great either. I'm telling you, you should change careers as soon as possible. You'll get cursed at and won't make any money in this line of work. If you're a scammer, even if you don't make a single penny, you'll still end up in jail at such a young age."

"And another piece of advice: could you please check the almanac before making your next call? Don't always call when other people are being affectionate..." Nanqi glanced at Song Zhao, then swallowed the word with a cough, "...constantly ruining the atmosphere, understand? Idiot~" After venting her anger, Nanqi hung up the phone.

Song Zhao was amused by Nan Qi and kept laughing while clutching his stomach.

Nanqi looked at her and laughed along with her. "Is it really that funny that I'm cursing someone so seriously?"

"It's precisely because you're so serious that... that it's funny..."

So the two of them influenced each other and burst into laughter.

On the way back, the two bought some Fuji apples. The seller had printed the words "Happiness and Peace" on the apples. They bought one apple and fed each other a few bites. They thought it tasted pretty good, so they each bought a bag.

As they were browsing, Duan Peng was also picking out apples with a little girl. "Hey!..."

Song Zhao quickly pulled her back, saying, "Don't bother them."

"He's in a relationship and didn't even tell me."

Song Zhao said, "You're no different."

Indeed, Nanqi was just trying to quietly avoid them with Song Zhao when Duan Peng called out to her, "Sister Qi!"

Duan Peng ran over excitedly.

Nanqi punched him on the back. "What are you doing here? Aren't you going to spend time with your girlfriend?"

"Oh dear, what nonsense are you talking about? She's my cousin."

"Cousin?!" Nanqi and Song Zhao exclaimed in disbelief.

"How come I didn't know you had a cousin?"

"She's been studying in Beijing, and she came to visit me today."

"It's only Thursday today, and she skipped class to come here to find you."

“She attends an international school, where they have overseas holidays, so these two days are like the Chinese New Year abroad.”

Duan Peng then asked, "Hey, what's going on with you two?"

"We're buying apples," Nanqi said, shaking the bag she was carrying.

"Why are you still eating an apple? Aren't you the one who hates eating apples that someone else has bitten?" Duan Peng asked.

"Mind your own business. Our class monitor has a sweet mouth, and apples he's bitten are even sweeter. Anyway, I'm happy with it..." Nanqi said, her eyes darting around as she thought.

Duan Peng said with a playful tone, "Really? Then let me try it too."

As Duan Peng spoke, he lunged at Apple with a big mouth. Seeing this, Nan Qi bent two fingers and gave him a hard knock on the head. The sound was so loud that even the loudspeaker's shouts couldn't drown it out.

Seeing this, Duan Peng's cousin couldn't help but cover her mouth and chuckle before coming over to ask him with concern, "Brother, how are you?"

"He's fine, his head's still hard."

"Sister Qi, you actually hit me?!" Duan Peng said, dissatisfied.

"Who told you to be so cheeky?"

"I was just kidding, you can tell."

"You're really asking for trouble by joking like that!"

Song Zhao also felt that Duan Peng was incredibly annoying and had no sense of propriety. If Nan Qi hadn't acted quickly, she would have slapped Duan Peng across the face.

Suddenly, Song Zhao's phone started buzzing; this time it must have been a text message.

Nanqi looked over curiously, but for some reason Song Zhao quickly covered the phone screen with his hand, turned to her and said with a grin that it was nothing.

Nanqi stopped being curious and instead took Song Zhao's hand, continuing their shopping trip and leaving Duan Peng and his little cousin behind.

Before parting, Song Zhao gave Nan Qi a bank card, saying, "The password is my birthday."

Nanqi's pupils dilated in shock, and she quickly refused, saying, "I don't want to, I don't want to."

Nanqi shoved the card into Nanqi's hand. "There's not much money in this card. It just deposits a fixed amount of money every month, but the exact date is uncertain. Once you spend it all, it's gone."

"Isn't that your living expenses? What will you do if I spend it all?"

Seeing Nanqi's nervous expression, Song Zhao patted her hair and laughed, "Silly girl, who told you I only have one card? Besides, you're the one using my meal card now, so I'll leave the task of topping up the card to you from now on. I'll just obediently wait for you to feed me."

"Who's the fool here? If you run into a gold digger, you'll regret it."

“You’re not, and even if you were, as long as you’re happy to spend the money, I’d be happy too.” Song Zhao smiled brightly, as if she were imagining some heartwarming scene.

Nanqi said, "Forget it, let me keep it. What if you lose your mind one day and spend the money on someone else? Wouldn't I be at a disadvantage?" Nanqi put the card in the innermost part of her backpack. "Anyway, I'm much more frugal than you when it comes to spending money. You won't lose out if you leave it with me."

"As long as I'm with you, what's the point of worrying about losing out?"

Nanqi took out the box of mung bean cakes from her bag and told her that this was the one she originally planned to give her. Then, in a slightly manipulative tone, she said that it was just ordinary and she was afraid that Song Zhao would dislike it. Song Zhao glanced at her, then picked up a piece and tasted it. "The taste is really good, and it's not too sweet. How did you know that I like this brand of mung bean cakes?"

Nanqi smiled and said, "Because we are on the same wavelength."

From then on, Nanqi became the little housekeeper. She put her living expenses and Song Zhao's money together, and saved the money that she didn't spend into that card. The two of them truly started living a simple life together.

The next day at lunchtime, when the homeroom teacher returned the phones in the box, Nanqi went to collect her and Song Zhao's phones as usual. Just then, Song Zhao's phone vibrated again; it was a message. Curious, Nanqi opened it and saw a photo of the two of them kissing that day. She froze, then pretended to be calm and hid the phone away.

She vaguely remembered the number; it was the harassing call from yesterday. She didn't know the caller's purpose, but sending Song Zhao such photos couldn't be anything good; it might even be someone threatening her.

There were no further messages from this number; it must have been deleted by Song Zhao.

She didn't expose him, and handed the phone to Song Zhao, saying, "Your phone just received a message, and I accidentally bumped into it."

Song Zhao glanced at his phone and asked nervously, "Did you see my message?"

Nanqi shook her head. "I just accidentally bumped into it and didn't have time to look. But what did it send? I'm a little curious."

"It's nothing, just a Merry Christmas message from an old friend. It was probably a mass message, and we haven't been in touch for a long time."

"Oh, oh," Nanqi said with a forced smile.
