Chapter 14 Calling Uncle

The sun had already sunk below the horizon, leaving only a tiny ray of light lingering. The flower garden was completely silent, as if the laughter just now was just a figment of human imagination.

Jiang Xi looked inside. The flower garden was in the shape of a concave U, forming a 90-degree angle with the teaching building. In the corner, a figure was sitting faintly. The face could not be seen clearly, but one could feel the scorching gaze in the dark.

A strange man who makes people feel oppressive.

Jiang Xi subconsciously took a few steps back. "I dumped her, and you just watched. Isn't that a bit unkind?"

"I thought this was a public area."

The man lazily leaned against the steps behind him, his long legs stretched out, almost touching the edge of the teaching building wall. One hand rested on his bent right leg, a cigarette flickering between his fingertips. He flicked the cigarette butt, somewhat nonchalantly:

"Girl, next time you dump someone, remember to find a quiet place where no one is."

"Thank you for your guidance, uncle."

Jiang Xi laughed in anger and said, "Next time!"

The man seemed to be frightened by the word "uncle" and coughed, "How naughty."

The voice has a natural frivolity, but it is not annoying.

But this definitely does not include Jiang Xi.

She had no intention of spending too much time with a strange man in the deep darkness. She paused, then left the flowerbed and walked along the path to the outside. She heard a voice behind her, "Wait."

The man stood up. His tall and slender figure carried the explosive strength of an adult. Jiang Xi's muscles tensed up and his voice tightened. "What's the matter?"

"How do I get to the teaching office?"

The voice was close at hand, and an ambiguous air flowed across Jiang Xi's earlobe. She raised her head suddenly, but only saw the back of the man walking away.

Tall and thin, unlike Lu Hao's youthful slenderness, this man was wearing a clean and neat white shirt with the hem tucked into his trousers. The close-fitting cut showed off his long legs, revealing part of his ankles, and he was wearing a pair of brown varnished leather shoes.

This is a kind of modernity that is incompatible with the city of Shanghai.

Jiang Xi covered the goose bumps that were blown out and turned away.

Jiang's father was already waiting outside the school gates. Jiang Xi had tried her best to persuade him to pick her up and drop her off every day, but to no avail. Finally, she just agreed and acted like a good daughter. Jiang's father muttered as he put his coat on her and put on a helmet. It was rush hour, and the motorcycle weaved through the traffic, and they were home in less than ten minutes.

A dreamless night.

The next day, Jiang Xi woke up at dawn.

When Jiang's mother cooked the noodles and came to call for help, she found that her daughter had been lying on the desk memorizing English words for a long time. She remembered that the light in her daughter's room was still on when she went to the bathroom in the middle of the night last night, and she felt distressed.

"Mom, what's that smell? It smells so good."

Jiang Xi wrinkled her nose as her mother brought over the noodles. "There's still half a can of chicken soup from yesterday. You don't like rice porridge, so I made you some noodles. Come, try some."

Jiang Xi jumped up like a rabbit and said, "I'm going to brush my teeth."

After brushing his teeth and eating some chicken noodle soup, Jiang Xi suggested going out. Today is Saturday, and the school has cancelled supplementary classes in accordance with the policy of the Ministry of Education, allowing students to study independently at home.

Mother Jiang was stunned. "How about... Mom goes with you?"

She looked at Jiang Xi cautiously. Children don't like adults following them.

Jiang Xi's nose was bruised by her look, but he had other plans in mind, so he naturally disagreed with her mother following him. "Mom, I made an appointment with some classmates, so it's no big deal if you come along. We're just going to go shopping around the Huaxing Bookstore. Don't worry, we won't go anywhere else."

After much persuasion, Jiang's mother finally agreed.

Jiang Xi went back to her room to change clothes. When she was about to leave, her mother hurriedly caught up with her. She stuffed something cold in her hand and said, "Xixi, this is what Dad bought you yesterday. If you have anything, call Mom."

Jiang Xi was stunned and looked down, and it turned out to be the new iPhone 6 released this year.

Such a small square brick has a market value of more than 6,000 yuan. Jiang's father used to have to go without food and drink for two months to earn that much - and now he is still a stay-at-home.

"Your dad said that many people in your school have used it, and our Xixi can't be worse off than others." Jiang's mother scolded with a smile, "Look, I brought this back yesterday morning, but I was afraid you might change your mind, so I didn't give it to you. Since you're going out today, take it."

Jiang Xi held the cold body of the iPhone 6 and said "hmm" in a muffled voice.

"Where's Dad?"

Jiang's mother looked excited. "Among the people you rescued last time, was there someone called Gu? What was that name?"

"Gu Yunfei?"

Jiang Xi looked confused. What did this have to do with that kid?

"Yes, that's the name. A few days ago, Gu Yunfei's father called and said he found a job for your dad in the town government cafeteria. He'll be responsible for memorizing menus and buying groceries. It's easy work. Look, he started working early this morning."

Gu Yunfei's father?

Jiang Xi thought of the clothes Gu Yunfei was wearing at the time, and suddenly understood.

It seems that he has some connections and was able to find her home phone number. He even traveled thousands of miles to help her father solve his work problem - this job was chosen very appropriately, not too excessive, and very suitable.

Gu Yunfei's parents had obviously done some research on her family beforehand.

Jiang Xi accepted the offer of a life in exchange for his father's job very calmly, but Jiang's mother was a little embarrassed. They grew up with the educational philosophy of knowing gratitude but not expecting anything in return, and they still have the warmth and simplicity unique to that era in their bones.

"They are too polite."

Speak of the devil, and he will appear. The fruit 6 in Jiang Xi's hand, which had just been held and was still warm, began to jingle. Gu Yunfei's voice came through the receiver, "Sister Jiang?"
