Chapter 22 And Again

"Tell me, what's going on?"

Cheng Cheng suppressed the rage rising in his chest, took out a cigarette from his bag with trembling hands and lit it. Before he could take a few puffs, he remembered that the two were high school students, and his hand trembled as he put it out again.

There were few people on the curb, the street lights flickered, and at first glance, Cheng Cheng's solemn face looked like the devil who was urging people to die.

Lu Hao vaguely knew that he was in trouble: "Jiang Xi, are you working here?"

Jiang Xi ignored him.

"I……"

She opened her mouth, swallowed it back, and apologized, "Manager, I'm sorry."

Jiang Xi could have ten thousand excuses to shirk responsibility, but Manager Cheng had a sharp tongue but a soft heart. Even watching a legal channel could bring him to tears. If he really laid things out and explained things to her, he would definitely not bother with her anymore.

But precisely because he was such a person, Jiang Xi was speechless.

"sorry?!"

Cheng Cheng's temper flared up, and he nearly jumped up when he heard this. "If saying sorry would work, why would we need the police? Jiang Xi, are you stupid? You came here to work, and you're in such an important place. If they find out, you'll be fine, but I'll be sued!"

Jiang Xi lowered his head even lower.

"How big is it?"

Cheng Cheng suddenly sighed. He couldn't vent his anger on a minor any more.

"sixteen."

"Second year of high school?"

"kindness."

"Who are you, the old man I saw at the door of the store a few times ago?"

"My dad."

No wonder.

Cheng Cheng felt the urge to smoke again and chased after the cigarette butt he had just taken a few puffs from: "Are you short of money?"

Jiang Xi didn't say anything.

If you come out to work at such a young age, it means either your parents are bad or you are short of money. Look at this dad who picks you up and drops you off every day, and now he is standing on tiptoe and looking at me eagerly, so the relationship must be bad.

That can only be due to lack of money.

Cheng Cheng pulled out his wallet from his inner pocket and took out ten red bills. "Here, it's your severance pay. Don't come here again."

Jiang Xi didn't answer and didn't move.

Cheng Cheng impatiently stuffed it into her hand and said, "Here, why are you being so pretentious? I didn't have money to go to college back then, so I set up a stall under the overpass and hoped people would give me money every day."

Jiang Xi raised her head, her big eyes bright as if washed by water: "Manager, but I like coffee shops, can we not leave?"

"Do you want to visit me in jail in a few months?"

Cheng Cheng said unhappily.

“What if it’s not an employment relationship?”

Cheng Cheng was stunned, and the fingertips that were chasing smoke moved. Jiang Xi said seriously, "Just treat me as your relative's child. You don't need to pay me. I can come to the coffee shop to help out, okay?"

"You owe me because I didn't pay my salary?" Cheng Cheng was habitually sarcastic.

"That's pocket money your uncle gives me, not my salary." Jiang Xi cautiously probed, "Is that okay?"

"Besides, you and I didn't sign a contract at the time, so it's not an employment relationship."

Cheng Cheng wiped his face, and when his mind came to his senses, he couldn't help but exclaim, "Hey, little girl, you're quite smart. If you want to go into business, you're also a cunning person."

He opened his round eyes and looked Jiang Xi up and down, as if he was meeting her for the first time. "You used to pretend to be like your uncle?" He said this with a smile on his face.

Jiang Xi breathed a sigh of relief.

The matter is still the same, but the nature is very different when it is expressed in a different way.

"Thief girl!"

Cheng Cheng laughed and scolded, "Alright. But let's change the rules. When you're not busy with your studies, come sit in the shop. Look, right by the window, it's bright. Have some bread and some coffee. You don't have to do anything else. Just be a walking sign. Come and get paid whenever you want."

"Manager..."

Jiang Xi's eyes were slightly moist. Cheng Cheng was not prepared to face the tender scene of these two tearful people. Seeing that Jiang Xi wanted to say more, he quickly reached out and called Jiang's father over from across the street:

"Is Xiaoxi's dad?"

Father Jiang pushed his motorcycle across the road and said, "Hello, I hope Xiaoxi didn't cause you any trouble here."

He didn't know yet that Jiang Xi's identity had been exposed.

"Xiaoxi is quite sensible and well-behaved, isn't she—" Cheng Cheng said maliciously, "Uncle, your daughter isn't even an adult yet, so you're just letting her go out and earn money to support the family?"

Father Jiang's face turned pale and blue.

He was also very scared about this matter, but there was nothing he could do. Xixi's life was more important, and he was too anxious to come up with any excuses.

Lu Hao stood there in a daze. After watching this whole thing, how could he not understand what role he played in it?

Although Jiang Xi had rejected him coldly before, her eyes were always soft, like the gentle waves rippling in spring. But now, she refused to even spare him an extra glance.

"Jiangxi had some problems a while ago. The family sold their house and they were really broke, so they started working."

Seeing that Jiang's father was hesitant and unable to say anything, Lu Hao hurried to help explain.

He really didn't understand Jiang Xi.

If Lu Hao understood a little, he would know that Jiang Xi would never want to play the victim in front of others, and she was even more reluctant to mention that part of the past. She has never been the type of person to open her wounds for others to see. Not only did she refuse to do so, she also had to keep it tightly covered.

"Something happened?"

Cheng Cheng looked careless, but he was actually quite considerate. He knew from the two people's expressions that the past was not a happy one, and he didn't want to delve into it. "Come on, come on, stop looking so sad. It's getting dark. You should go back early, okay?"

"Fatty, let me speak for you."

Jiang Xi knew that he was being a bit unreasonable, but he still said it: "Manager, can you please not mention my affairs... to others for now?"
