Chapter 51 Breakfast
The next day at noon, Luo Xincheng struggled to open her eyes, and what came into view was a large expanse of white chest.
Before she was fully awake, she instinctively buried herself in his arms, took a deep breath, and rubbed her cheek against his bulging muscles.
"Are you awake?"
Fu Zhiheng touched her hair, his voice still slightly husky and lazy.
She took a few random bites under his collarbone, then sucked on it, mumbling, "Half-awake, huh..."
He chuckled softly, his chest trembling slightly with laughter. "There's someone else who bites as soon as they wake up, like a little dog."
These words clearly angered Luo Xincheng, causing her to bite harder, leaving deep and shallow bite marks on his fair skin in no time.
He gasped softly and quickly begged for forgiveness, "I was wrong, I shouldn't have said that to you. You can bite me if you want, but could you be a little gentler?"
Luo Xincheng then loosened her grip on his mouth and said lazily, "This is your punishment for your great disrespect towards me."
After saying that, she buried her face in her chest and took a deep breath, feeling great. "It smells so good. As expected, the shower gel I chose smells wonderful."
Fu Zhiheng ruffled her hair, and after she snuggled against him and seemed a little more awake, he smiled and asked, "Are you hungry? What do you want to eat?"
Luo Xincheng yawned. "I'm hungry, but I don't have much of an appetite."
"I checked your fridge last night, and it's got quite a lot of food in it. How about I cook for you?"
"ah?"
Luo Xincheng recalled that she had indeed asked her personal assistant, Mia, to put some things in the refrigerator.
However, since I'm terrible at cooking and can only make simple things like steak pasta sandwiches and salads, the ingredients that Mia fills in are basically those few items.
"Sure," she readily agreed. "The noodles and steak you cooked last time were both delicious."
He raised his eyebrows and spoke very modestly, but the pride in his tone was impossible to hide: "I'm glad you don't mind."
Luo Xincheng chuckled in his arms, then looked up at him.
Golden sunlight slanted in through a narrow gap in the curtains, casting long, trailing streaks of light across the floor.
His smiling eyes were bathed in a hazy halo, and as his long eyelashes blinked slowly, Luo Xincheng could almost see shimmering particles of light dancing at the tips of his eyelashes.
“If you’re making sandwiches, don’t put tomato slices in them.” She couldn’t help but raise her hand, feeling the brush of his eyelashes against her fingertips. “I don’t really like eating raw tomatoes.”
He smiled and said, "You don't eat onions either, right? Are there any other dietary restrictions?"
Luo Xincheng hesitated, "It's not that I don't eat onions, I just feel that adding onions would make the pasta taste better, but..."
She winked at him, giving him a frantic hint, "Do you understand what I mean?"
Meeting her bright, expectant eyes, Fu Zhiheng feigned surprise and widened his eyes, "What do you mean?"
It's no exaggeration to say that Luo Xincheng's face fell the moment he finished speaking.
Seeing this, Fu Zhiheng laughed out loud, "You don't expect me to stir-fry the onions for flavor, and then pick them all out for you when you're plating, do you?"
Luo Xincheng pressed her forehead against his chest and said matter-of-factly, "Yes, that's how I like to eat. When I eat out, I always ask them to do it this way."
After saying that, she presciently covered his mouth and said warily, "Don't criticize me for being fussy. I always ask the restaurant if they can do it this way before I order. If they can't, I definitely won't order it! They usually charge me a 15% service fee, which I deserve!"
He smiled and said, "I didn't mean to criticize you."
Feeling that she had indeed overreacted, Luo Xincheng let go of her hand. "That's good."
He gently pinched her cheek reassuringly, "Did someone see you ordering like this and say something?"
"Yeah, last time I went out for dinner with my colleagues, a guy saw how I ordered and said that my habit was bad, that I was inconsiderate of the staff, and that I was exploiting the lower-level employees. He said I should tone down my spoiled attitude or I'd never get married... I was so angry that I didn't even eat. After we argued, I slapped him and went home."
Hearing such radical words, Fu Zhiheng was stunned. After a long while, he asked, "Doesn't he know your identity?"
"I know, he just said that on purpose to make himself stand out from the crowd." Luo Xincheng wrinkled his nose and said listlessly, "He used to order me milk tea every day, but I didn't drink it. I guess he thought I was too hard to please, so he tried to get my attention by criticizing me."
Fu Zhiheng immediately frowned and said nervously, "He's so scheming. This kind of man is the most calculating. He'll do anything to achieve his goals."
He hugged her tightly, feeling a pang of sympathy. "Do you still want to work with this kind of person? I'm so worried about you."
Listening to his witty remarks, Luo Xincheng chuckled, poking him in the heart repeatedly, and exclaimed, "Now I finally know what it means to whisper sweet nothings in someone's ear."
He smiled and leaned closer, gently breathing into her ear, "See, this is called whispering in her ear."
Luo Xincheng's ears were tickled by the wind, and she giggled as she snuggled into his arms again.
He hugged her and ruffled her hair, then smoothed it out with his fingers like a comb. "So what happened to that person later? Keeping quiet isn't your style."
Luo Xincheng chuckled, "He was transferred to a branch office, so what? It's a society governed by law. We can't just beat him up because we don't like him."
He chuckled. "Ambush? Sounds like something you'd do."
Luo Xincheng clicked her tongue loudly and gave him a playful shove, feigning displeasure, "How can you talk like that?"
She realized that Fu Zhiheng had really gotten too big for his britches. "He dares to talk to me like that now? He's getting bolder and bolder."
"What can I do? I didn't want this either." He hugged her, greedily inhaling the sweet floral and fruity scent of her hair, and sighed contentedly, "The thought that I'm really your boyfriend again makes me so proud."
He wanted to act spoiled and unreasonable with her, and he wanted even more of her indulgence and pampering.
He lowered his head, resting his chin on her shoulder, and sighed softly, "What should I do? Am I annoying? Will you dislike me?"
Good heavens, how did he detect his disdain from just one short sentence?
She cried out that she was innocent, "I didn't dislike you, I just think that you look like this now... um..."
She hesitated, somewhat at a loss for words, "I feel more open and real now, which is good. I always felt you were nervous around me before, honestly, I'm not your boss."
He said gently, "But in some ways, you have the same rights as your boss."
"What rights?"
"If my boss thinks I'm not good enough, he can fire me. If you think I'm not good enough, you can just dump me."
"..."
He pinched her slightly puffed-up cheeks, his voice as sweet as if it were mixed with icing sugar, "So in order to firmly hold onto the title of your boyfriend, I have to work hard and be ambitious enough."
She suddenly became playful, "Then I'll be your boss from now on, you have to behave and listen to me, okay? Otherwise, I won't get paid!"
He followed up on the topic by asking, "If I do well, will you give me a bonus?"
She denied it without hesitation, "Of course not, I'm a vicious capitalist who only exploits you, don't even think about bonuses or anything like that."
He leaned down and pecked her on the corner of her mouth, teasingly saying, "I have to go make breakfast for the big boss whose stomach is growling with hunger, otherwise what if the boss gets too hungry and won't have the energy to squeeze me dry?"
Luo Xincheng clutched her stomach in annoyance, "What? I wasn't yelling! Don't talk nonsense!"
Fu Zhiheng smiled and sat up, leaning against the headboard, tucking the blanket around her. "You can sleep a little longer, or play on your phone for a while. I'll call you when I'm done."
She waved her hand at him like she was shooing away a puppy, "Go away, go away."
Watching his back as he left the bedroom, she pulled the blanket over herself, feeling that his scent still lingered in the bed.
Words cannot describe my feelings at this moment; my heart is filled with an indescribable emotion.
This made her involuntarily stretch her lips into a wide smile.
The saying goes, "The early bird catches the worm." If every morning started like this, it wouldn't feel so bad.
...
After playing on her phone in bed for a while and lingering there for a bit, Luo Xincheng got up and headed straight for the kitchen.
At noon, the sun was shining brightly.
The bright sunlight made the kitchen bright and cozy. Fu Zhiheng put on the clothes he had washed and dried the night before, wearing an apron that was obviously a size too small, and turned his back to her.
On the stove, bacon was frying in a frying pan and pasta was cooking in a stew pot. He was keeping an eye on the two pots, busy but methodical.
Luo Xincheng shuffled in in her slippers and hugged him from behind.
He paused, tilted his head to look at her, and asked, "Don't you want to lie down a little longer?"
She rested her head against his shoulder blade without saying a word, and her hands, which were wrapped around his waist, began to wander restlessly.
"Don't do that." He instinctively flinched, then chuckled, "You're tickling me."
Feeling the muscles under his palm gradually tighten, she smiled mischievously, poked her head out from behind him, and looked at the boiling pot. "Don't look at me, look at the pot. The pasta won't taste good if it's overcooked."
Fu Zhiheng said helplessly, "It's all because of you causing trouble."
"What did I do wrong? Touching you a couple of times is considered causing trouble?" She poked his waist, and the more he dodged, the more she poked. "It's because your will is too weak, darling."
"Okay..." He had no choice but to pick up a piece of crispy bacon with his chopsticks, trying to distract her. "Want to try some?"
Luo Xincheng immediately covered her mouth, "I haven't brushed my teeth yet."
After saying that, he ran away in a flash.
Watching her disappear into the bathroom, Fu Zhiheng's eyes were practically overflowing with laughter.
He didn't let himself bask in the happiness he felt in the moment; he quickly turned around and continued making breakfast...
Wait a minute, it's this late, can it still be considered breakfast?
Never mind, it doesn't matter.
The first meal I eat every day is breakfast.
In the bathroom, looking at the disposable toothbrush that Fu Zhiheng had used on the washstand, Luo Xincheng thought absentmindedly that it was time to get some household supplies for him at home.
After washing up, she tied her hair up and headed to the kitchen, feeling refreshed.
But as soon as she stepped into the living room, she saw Fu Zhiheng carrying a plate of food out of the kitchen. "It's all ready. Just come to the dining room and sit down to eat."
So fast?
Luo Xincheng scratched his head, thinking that he couldn't just sit around and wait to eat, so he went to the refrigerator, took out some milk, poured it into a ceramic cup, and microwaved it for a bit.
A minute later, she walked into the restaurant wearing heat-resistant gloves and carrying two cups of hot milk.
Looking at the dining table, there was a toast and pasta for each person.
She narrowed her eyes. "The toast is topped with Eggs Benedict?" "Yeah." He took the hot milk and blew on it. "I just happened to see that you had Hollandaise sauce in your fridge, so I tried poaching the eggs. I didn't expect it to be a success on the first try."
"I have serious doubts about your claim of 'success on the first try'."
She picked up the toast and took a big bite, savoring the soft toast, crispy bacon, refreshing spinach, and smooth poached egg along with the rich hollandaise sauce. A satisfied smile appeared on her face as she chewed.
"Delicious!"
"But didn't you really practice at home countless times, finally getting a chance to show off in front of me?"
He rolled up some spaghetti, a helpless smile on his face. "Yes, yes, I was just waiting to show off in front of you."
Although his tone sounded like he was being forced, Luo Xincheng didn't care. Since he had admitted it, she would take it as if that was really what he thought.
"How cunning!" She put down her toast after eating half of it, drank a couple of sips of milk, and then started eating pasta.
Her pasta dish truly didn't have any unpleasant onions; the only ingredients were bell peppers, beef, and mushrooms, yet you could still taste a hint of the onions' unique sweetness when eating the pasta.
The food on the table was delicious, and her boyfriend across from her was a feast for the eyes. Luo Xincheng ate with great satisfaction.
“Next time I come, I’ll buy some other ingredients and make you a Chinese breakfast, okay?” He cleared his throat and said seriously, “Let’s try different flavors.”
Luo Xincheng teased him, saying he was indeed cunning, "You haven't even finished eating yet, and you're already thinking about next time. Do you just want me to ask you when you're coming next time?"
He rested his chin on his hand, looking at her teasing smile, and said dejectedly, "Don't expose me so quickly."
She said with feigned seriousness, "Shouldn't we normally discuss dinner first?"
He nodded, indicating that she made sense. "What would you like to eat for dinner? How about we go to the supermarket to buy groceries together later?"
"The feeling of two people pushing a shopping cart side by side in the supermarket really brings out that everyday, down-to-earth charm. Besides groceries, how about we buy some snacks and drinks too? Although I don't really like eating them, I sometimes crave something random to satisfy my cravings, and also some household items..."
He tactfully indicated, "I don't want to use disposable toiletries anymore."
Luo Xincheng's heart tightened, wondering if he wanted to live with her?
No way, that's way too fast!
Fortunately, he said the next second, "Although I only come here occasionally, I really don't like using disposable toothbrushes."
Luo Xincheng breathed a sigh of relief and readily nodded, "Okay, I'll buy it."
She shoved her phone forward with an air of arrogance, declaring, "Miss Luo is paying for everything tonight!"
Fu Zhiheng immediately picked up her phone. "What's the password?"
"Hello!"
Luo Xincheng quickly snatched the phone, glared at him fiercely, and looked wary.
"Want to check my phone? Don't even think about it!"
"You said it yourself..."
"I just said I wanted to pay the bill, I wasn't planning to show you my phone!"
"I've shown you everything..."
"I've already taken responsibility after seeing it, what more do you want?"
"..."
