Chapter 48 Dealing with President Li: Kind-hearted Xiao Song, Always ready to help others
After getting off work in the evening, Qin Shu came to pick up Song Ying.
After getting out of the garage, seeing her husband's stunningly handsome face, Song Ying's mood improved considerably. Seeing that no one was around, she took advantage of Qin Shu's moment of leaning over to fasten her seatbelt and gave him a quick kiss, successfully launching a sneak attack.
"You get a good deal, but you have to pay it back."
A wild, rebellious boy's voice soared as he leaned in for a deep kiss. The clear scent of sandalwood gradually turned sweet and cloying, spreading throughout the car.
Just then, a vehicle pulled out of the parking lot from the opposite side, and Song Ying quickly pushed Qin Shu, afraid of being seen.
However, they were held even tighter.
Fortunately, Qin Shu wasn't entirely irrational; he freed one hand to cover the exposed half of her face.
A car drove by and went away.
Qin Shu only withdrew, somewhat reluctantly, when Song Ying was almost out of breath.
"You're so annoying..."
Song Ying glared at Qin Shu, took out a mirror and lipstick from her bag to touch up her makeup. Her originally clear eyes were now tinged with a charming red, making her look both reproachful and alluring.
"I just touched up my lipstick before leaving get off work, and you've ruined it all."
Qin Shu chuckled softly, raised her right hand, and gently wiped the red from the corner of her lips with her thumb. Her originally cheerful voice became slightly hoarse.
"With such a beautiful sight before me, even a monk would find it hard to resist."
"You're talking nonsense."
Despite her complaints, Song Ying was actually quite pleased with herself.
But speaking of eating...
"By the way, did Grandpa call you too?" Song Ying smudged her lipstick, closed the mirror, and turned to ask Qin Shu.
"Um."
Sensing Qin Shu's emotions, Song Ying asked, "You don't want to go?"
"I can't be bothered with all that messy family stuff, it's annoying."
"How could they possibly bother you? Every time you've left them furious with your sharp retorts. I know you're just worried about me being wronged."
They've been married for almost a year, and Song Ying still doesn't know what Qin Shu is thinking.
“Ah Shu, I don’t mind, it’s not like I’ll lose a few ounces of meat anyway. I just think that although they’re annoying, Grandpa hasn’t done anything wrong. As people get older, they definitely want their family to spend more time with them. My eldest uncle is busy with his company, my second uncle is useless, and my eldest and second aunts are always gossiping. Grandpa must be very lonely at home all by himself. You were raised by him, so you should spend more time with him, both emotionally and logically. Besides, today’s situation is special, and we can’t be absent for your sake, Auntie.”
Qin Shu, who was not one to easily change his mind, was persuaded by his wife. After a moment of silence, he said in a muffled voice, "I understand."
The vehicle slowly drove out of the underground parking garage and headed towards the old house.
The setting sun dyed the sky, and the clouds were ablaze with color.
Song Ying's favorite music was playing from the car stereo. Qin Shu asked if the audition went well today.
Song Ying didn't hide it from her.
Before he could finish speaking, Qin Shu's knuckles turned white as he gripped the steering wheel, veins bulging on the back of his hands, and his voice was as cold as iron.
"Is it Li Zhong from Qingcheng Entertainment?"
"Don't get agitated. Don't let your emotions get the better of you while driving," Song Ying reminded him before looking ahead and continuing, "It's him. I made him look so foolish today, and that guy surnamed Li will probably hold a grudge against me. But it's okay, I won't let him get away with it either."
"Have you figured out what to do?"
"Before you came, I made some inquiries and heard some interesting things—this Li Zhong is a son-in-law who married into the family and built his fortune on his wife Huang Lei. The Huang family patriarch only had this one daughter, so before hiring Li Zhong, he made the two sign a prenuptial agreement requiring the complete division of their assets. When the patriarch was still alive, Li Zhong was relatively well-behaved, but after the patriarch passed away, Li Zhong began to act as an agent for Huang Lei's shares, and later, little by little, under various pretexts, he swallowed up all of Huang Lei's shares."
Song Ying looked at the taillights of the car in front of her, crossed her arms, and tapped her left arm repeatedly with her right index finger.
"Huang Lei has a fiery temper, but she doesn't understand business. She had heard rumors that Li Zhong was keeping a mistress, and she had made a scene a few times at first, but Li Zhong threatened to divorce her. According to their previous agreement, if they divorced, Huang Lei would not get a penny, because Li Zhong had already sidelined her. So Huang Lei could only turn a blind eye. As long as Li Zhong didn't go too far, she wouldn't make too much of a scene."
"After all, as long as the marriage continues, she will at least be able to live a life free from financial worries, and the children will be able to inherit Li Zhong's family business in the future."
"But to be honest, Li Zhong doesn't dare to get a divorce, because Qingcheng has many elderly people, all of whom were old Mr. Huang's people. If he goes too far, it won't look good on him."
"But in recent years, it is said that Li Zhong has had an illegitimate child outside and dotes on him. Naturally, Li Zhong's wife, Huang Lei, couldn't sit still. It is said that she has been collecting evidence of Li Zhong's infidelity, as well as proof of his previous embezzlement of Huang family shares."
Song Ying stopped there.
He changed his posture, bent his arm and placed it on the car window sill, propped his head up at an angle, and looked at Qin Shu with a half-smile.
"Do you want to help Huang Lei?" Qin Shu asked.
“Girls help girls,” Song Ying raised an eyebrow. “This is what a kind-hearted citizen like Xiao Song should do.”
Qin Shu drove without looking to the side, a smile playing on her lips, her voice softening before rising again.
"How about Mr. Qin, the kind citizen, help you look up some information?"
"Then I'll thank Comrade Xiao Qin in advance."
"Just a verbal thank you?"
After asking the question, Qin Shu's smile deepened, hinting at something, "The role is gone, so you shouldn't need to make any announcements these next couple of days, right?"
"???……roll!"
I really don't want to understand it instantly!
-
Upon arriving at the old house, even before entering, we could hear bursts of laughter and chatter from afar, making it even more lively than when we usually return.
A few days ago was Grandpa's birthday. Qin Shu's aunt, Qin Jin, was conducting ecological research in the rainforest and couldn't make it back. Now that she's out of the forest and the project has come to an end, she rushed back to China to celebrate Grandpa's birthday.
It was a perfect opportunity for the whole family to have a reunion dinner.
Qin Shu and Song Ying changed their shoes at the door and walked towards the living room. Before they could greet each other, they heard a woman's voice.
"Ah Shu and Ah Ying are back? Come here, let Auntie give you a good hug!"
As he spoke, a figure rushed over, snatched Song Ying from Qin Shu's side, and hugged her tightly.
Seeing this, the others also looked over.
The living room fell silent for a moment.
The old man sat on the sofa in the middle, and his smile widened.
Aunt Li Biru and Aunt Xu Jinhua exchanged a glance and pursed their lips.
I don't know what's so good about that girl surnamed Song. Qin Shu dotes on her, the old man favors her, and even Qin Jin, who married out of the family, treats her like his own daughter.
"It's been so long since I've seen you, Xiao Ying is even more beautiful than before."
On the other end, Qin Jin reluctantly let go of Song Ying and gently pinched her soft, chubby cheeks.
“I was just talking to the old man about you. I’ve watched your video so many times! You know what? When I came back, all the students I was with were watching it. I told them, ‘This is my niece-in-law,’ but they didn’t believe me.”
Qin Jin is now an ecology professor at Imperial University, and is a colleague of Song Ying's parents.
In addition, she also manages two companies under the Qin family. When she has free time, she goes to the companies for a visit, but most of the time she takes her students around to collect samples and conduct research.
She was the only one among the three female elders of the Qin family who liked Song Ying.
"I'm sorry to have made you laugh, Auntie," Song Ying said with a smile. "I heard from Ashu that you stayed in the rainforest for almost a month this time."
"Exactly! Life was so nerve-wracking! Speaking of which, I brought you something nice. Come, come, let me show you!"
Qin Jin led Song Ying by the hand into the crowd.
While Qin Jin was getting something, Song Ying and Qin Shu greeted everyone.
However, Song Ying soon discovered that there was another unfamiliar face in the crowd.
She was a girl in her early twenties, slightly shorter than her, delicate and soft-spoken, sitting next to her second aunt, Xu Jinhua.
Wearing a moon-white cheongsam, her hair tied back with a sandalwood hairpin, she exudes a dignified and elegant demeanor, with a beautiful and gentle appearance. Even just sitting there, she is a landscape painting in herself.
But at this moment, those almond-shaped eyes, as clear as lake water, were staring straight at Song Ying, ruining the serene and picturesque scene.
Song Ying looked at her questioningly, but the girl did not look away, instead staring at her even more directly.
That indomitable spirit made it seem as if he was determined to compete with her and see who was better.
Song Ying quickly guessed her identity.
Out of politeness, he smiled and said, "This must be my second aunt's niece, Miss Xu Lanyan?"
Xu Lanyan's eyebrows twitched slightly, her expression dignified and smiling.
"Miss Song, I've heard so much about you."
Song Ying nodded modestly, "I dare not."
"Is there anything you wouldn't dare to do?" Xu Jinhua, who had been silent until now, glanced at Song Ying and said in a low voice, "I heard that you went to audition today and even hit the vice president of Qingcheng Entertainment. I think you're quite bold! What, with the Qin family backing you up, you've started to act lawlessly and want to run rampant in the entertainment industry? Have you forgotten all the rules of the Qin family?"
