After reading the message on the phone, Ribs' pupils shrank slightly.
Although the message was not long, every word contained bloodiness and efficiency. A thought flashed through Ribbs's mind like lightning.
"This kid... is really efficient in his work!"
Ribs anticipated that Eugene would kill Kruen, but he didn't expect it to be so soon!
From the time he gave Eugene the order in his bedroom last night to the time he received the "clearance complete" report, only one night had passed! Even Kluane's group of fierce henchmen had been cleverly wiped out by Eugene, leaving not a single one alive!
Eugene is meticulous and extremely ruthless, showing the qualities of a top killer and conspirator.
"What's wrong, dear?" Keshia noticed the extremely subtle expression on Libus's face and asked lazily with a searching look. The other three sisters also looked over.
Ribs did not answer Kezia's question. He put down his knife and fork, picked up the napkin beside him, and wiped the corner of his mouth gently with an elegant gesture.
"Nothing serious. I just received a work briefing from Alfred. The minor trouble in New York has been completely resolved." He paused deliberately. "A young man named Eugene is very efficient. It seems he can take over the New York situation."
Keshia and the others were tactful and stopped asking questions. "The trouble has been solved," they thought, meaning their men's positions in New York were more secure, and they would only continue to enjoy the luxury brought by this power.
After enjoying his breakfast, Ribbs put on a neat suit. It was time to summon this incredibly efficient "young man".
…
In a private room on the top floor of the Oak Court restaurant on the south side of Central Park in New York.
Eugene sat opposite Ribbs and Alfred.
"Very efficient, Eugene." Ribs looked at the young man in front of him with a calm face and sharp eyes. "Kroon's stupidity made me waste a lot of time, but your performance... made up for it."
"It's my duty to share your worries, Speaker." Eugene bowed slightly, his attitude respectful but not servile. "We've already discussed last night's events with the police and key departments. The next step is to clean up the remaining chaotic influence of Kruen and transition to high-value-added security consulting and risk control services."
"Very good." Reeves nodded, satisfied with Eugene's flawless answer. "Remember, New York doesn't need street lords. What it needs is a leader who can truly integrate into the city's rules, be used by me, and create value for the group. Don't let me down."
"I understand, Speaker. I will never let you down." Eugene's voice was steady and powerful.
After lunch, Ribs stood by the window, watching Eugene leave in the car, with a faint smile on his face.
The trouble has been solved, the chess pieces have been replaced with new ones, and it’s time for his own power to take root in New York.
…
For the next few days, Ribbs stayed in New York as planned.
They even used the Nightingale Club's connections to take time out for a "harmonious" meeting with the New York mayor and police commissioner. All parties expressed high praise for the "contribution" made by "Black Rabbit Security" in stabilizing order in some areas of New York.
Although the Nightingale Club, a top-level vanity fair, is useful, it has both advantages and disadvantages.
The club's chairman, Hamilton, admires Ribbs's brilliance, but the Nightingales Club is not a monolithic entity.
One of the veteran members, old-school energy tycoon Harold, was wary of Ribbs, the "upstart" from the Midwest.
Harold has deep roots and considers New York his own backyard.
He strongly opposed Hamilton's decision to call Ribbs into the Nightingale Club.
Harold believed that Reebs's methods were too radical and had a strong "Chicago gangster" flavor. His rapid rise threatened the delicate balance carefully maintained by New York's old money. In their eyes, Reebs... was like an invading shark.
Harold needs a breakthrough, a key figure who can accurately strike Ribs and force him to retreat or even withdraw from New York.
He set his sights on Frank.
After a careful investigation, Harold dug out Frank's life experience clearly.
In Chicago, Frank was once a well-known figure, but was later defeated by Reeves and became one of Reeves' men.
Frank, exposed to the vast flow of Reebs's wealth, knew many of the shady sources and transfer routes of funds. Although he seemed loyal to Reebs, he was not completely flawless deep down.
A private meeting took place at Harold's estate deep in Long Island.
"Mr. Frank," Harold pushed a glass of vintage port in front of him, "I admire your ability to operate the Thorne Group. But your value should not be buried by the ambitions of an upstart. Chicago's rules don't work here." He leaned forward slightly, "Leave Ribbs and come to me. I can give you rewards and freedom far beyond your imagination - a true pass to the upper class, rather than living forever in Ribbs's shadow."
Frank's face instantly drained of all color when he heard this, and the hand holding the wine glass began to tremble uncontrollably. "Mr. Harold... please be careful! You don't know Reeves! That man..." He subconsciously glanced around, his eyes filled with terror. "Back in Chicago, he fought his way out of the bullet-riddled streets! The Daley family was powerful enough, wasn't it? He uprooted them all! So many bigwigs from the two major political parties stood in his way, but he crushed them all into the ground! Not to mention the Crips and the Red Bloods, those ruthless killers... they all became his stepping stones! If I hadn't been able to launder his money, invest it, and make the money he robbed 'clean', I would have sunk into Lake Michigan like those people who stood in his way! If I hadn't left him, that would have been the end of me!"
